Teething....?

My son is cutting a tooth today....Is it normal for him to be sleeping more that usual? He is not fussy at all...just very sleepy

Teething....?
Yes that is normal consider yourself lucky!!

during the day to help sooth him try taking a washcloth, put a piece of ice in it and wrap a rubber band at the bottom to hold the ice cube in and let him chew on it!!

Kids love the cold and texture of the washcloth!!
Reply:yes its normal
Reply:yeah it helps with the pain for some infants..how old is he? yeahh he'd good but he might start having problems when his bigger teeth start to come in... if so try using teething tablets they worked wonderfully with my daughter
Reply:yes it is normal, he might also have a fever. that is what us adults do. but if it goes on more than a day or two, call and talk to a doctor about it. I have 2 kids and they tended to do the same when they first started teething.
Reply:Yes it is very normal...he may also be going through a growth spurt!
Reply:sounds like he is ok maybe going though a growthspurt to
Reply:Yes - it's also normal for him to have a runny nose
Reply:some babies deal with pain by sleeping. so its all good and normal

Teething??

i noticed that instead of sucking on my hand, like my 4 month old will try to do on occasion, he has started to chew. he isn't terribly fussy, but i wonder if giving him baby tylenol is jumping the gun.

Teething??
If you look in his mouth at his gums you may be able to see a tiny bit of the tooth breaking through, or if the gums look red or swollen. Orajel is ok but it didn't seem to help my daughter at all, it actually just made her more upset. See if he'll let you put you're finger in his mouth and massage his gums w/ a cold rag, or give him some frozen teething rings to chew on (make sure they're not too cold or it could take her breath away). Also, a little bit of tylenol may help him not feel so uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a 100% effect solution, it's just something you're gonna have to deal with. If it seems to get really bad ask her doctor if they have anything that can help w/ the pain. Good luck!
Reply:When he starts showing signs of fever or pain/discomfort, alternate between Tylenol and Motrin. It works much better than only giving one of them. Just alternate each dose. In the meantime, try using a teething ring, freeze pop, or the hard beef jerky for him to chew on.
Reply:I would rather try a raw onion. This worked wonders for my cousin.
Reply:Yeah you really don't need to give him any Tylenol unless he seems very uncomfortable. My daughter has a really hard time sleeping when she is teething so we use Tylenol at night for her.
Reply:you can give your baby tiny chunks of ice to cool the effects of teething. The ice will do him no harm and your baby will enjoy it.

Good Luck

Teething....?

I'm 18 and my very back teeth on my bottom jaw are still comming through. I've had the urge to chew things like a baby all day. haha. But yeh, is this common?

Teething....?
are they your wisdom teeth? if so then ya its common I'm 22 and still getting mine in and believe me i know the feeling of wanting to chew on something lol

Teething??

my son has been sooking the past few days and i put my finger in his mouth and there was a sharp bit on the bottom in the middle. Does that mean that the tooth has broken the skin? if not how long will it take? and how long till ypu can see its a proper tooth?

Teething??
If you can feel it but not see it, it hasn't broken through, but it probably will in the next couple of days. If you can see it it's obviously broken through. It won't take long for the tooth to come all the way through, I'd say a few weeks.
Reply:yep he sure is teething, if hes having like runny poo and the colour is different like greenish then he definitly is teething
Reply:yep my kiddo is doing the same poor little sweetie .. i breastfeed do you? the thought of tooth scares me and my nipples

Teething ???????

a small pin prick of blood on 7 1/2 month olds gums is it a tooth coming if it is how long should it take

Teething ???????
Poor little girl! My daughter is going through the same thing (8 months.) It is most likely the tooth is breaking the skin and should be visibly white in a day or two. Keep her mouth clean with drinks after every meal (no sugary drinks - just water if you can get away with it) and keep checking the area.

If she's drooly and grumpy that's fine - so long as she's happy chewing things. If the area gets infected she will let you know (very loudly) when she tries to bite down. If so take her to the doctor - who'll give her a mild antiboitic and you some cotton wool - for your ears.
Reply:a day or 2 before you will be able to see it. Get a metal tea spoon and tap it onto the gums and you might be able to hear the tooth
Reply:You can't tell from just that if it is teething or not. Are they drooling more than usual? Are they putting their fingers in their mouth and chewing on everything in sight? If so, that's probably teething.
Reply:don't have any idea with that cause my little one he's just 4 months and just start feeling his gums, better see your doctor or have a word with your health visitor.
Reply:more than likely, and while im here, a handy tip, ice pops are good! good luck
Reply:It could be, why not rub a clean finger across the gum where the blood was and see if you can feel a slight sharp edge. If not, the baby may have knocked its' gum. Baby's first teeth start to come through from about 4 months to a 1year. The average age is around 6 months so it is very likely it is Baby's first tooth.
Reply:ok
Reply:yes its the tooth coming once the gum has been split it wont take long at all for the tooth to come through
Reply:First let me wish you good luck...the teething process can actually take a few months..lol For both of my kids I picked up lots of small bibs, and kept them in them while they were drooling 24/7. They have great rubber toys that you can toss in the freezer so they have something cold to gnaw on. The harder rubber toys are not as soothing. Just remember if they get really fussy you can always give them Tylenol, my pediatrician assured me it was not addictive and it helped with their aches and pains. It also helped me sleep better. I even got in the habit of putting the dropper in their mouth when they were sleeping...automatic relfex is to suck - so it works great.
Reply:sound's like it is teething, keep plenty of teethers in the fridge and get yourself some calgel.
Reply:sounds like it to me! dont be afraid to give her a little calpol or nurofen (can you imagine how painful it is!) it should be through within the next few days.

a good tips is to make some carrot battons and put them in the freezer it soothes as well as the hardness encouraging the tooth.

boots sell a herbal teething remedy sorry i can't remember what it is called but i found it by far the best, it comes in a powder form in sachets good luck x
Reply:Try rubbing it with a clean finger you should be able to feel the tooth, if you can feel a tooth it will start to break through the gum in a few days! Give your baby a teething toy and it will probably break through quicker!!

Teething...?

My 5 month old son's 2 bottom teeth are just coming through these past couple of nights, I have been giving him Tylenol to help ease the pain, and in hopes of maybe getting a couple of hours of sleep myself, but it hasn't worked. I always thought that Tylenol was supposed to make him drowsy, but it doesn't. It also didn't seem to be helping him with the pain so I went out and got him some Advil and tried that last night, but still nothing. He still wakes up sometimes 3 or 4 times within and hour, and the most he sleeps is for 2 hours straight. Any suggestions? Why is the Tylenol and Advil not working for him? I talked to my doctor to make sure I was giving him the correct dose because he is a very BIG baby (26lbs at 5 1/2 months) Any ideas are appeciated.

Teething...?
If they're under 6 months, you shouldn't give them Motrin. My son is teething(he's 5 months as well) and I use the teething tablets. Hylands makes them, and so does Little Remedies. I use the Little Remedies brand(I get them at Kroger, the Hylands I've found at CVS), and they help him relax so he can sleep. It says to put them under the tongue, but most babies won't keep them there, so I just put them in the back of his jaw and keep an eye on him. They're all natural, which is a plus! I only use Tylenol if the teething pain is accompanied with a fever. My son is also a big baby(around 24 pounds) and if I remember correctly, I can give him 1/2 a tsp of Tylenol every 6 hours. My pediatrician said no Motrin until at least 6 months old. And if he's anything like my little guy, he drools so much that the Orajel stuff would last a whole 2 seconds, lol.

Also, he likes to chew on his pacifiers(I keep some in the freezer in a ZipTop bag to keep them cold), because he hates those water filled teething rings. He also likes to chew on a washcloth. Best of luck to you, just remember it WILL get better!
Reply:My mom gave us kids teething rings and she would put them in the freezer and give them to us and that seemed to help her out and we got our sleep and so did she I hope it works out for you and WOW what a big baby but very Handsome and so cute !!
Reply:try putting teething medician on them and give him the tylnol, your doing a great job.
Reply:You can give him tylenol and motrin at the same time. They both work for pain but they have different chemicals.Tylenol is every 4 to 6 hours and I think Motrin is every 8.i did that for my daughter during the night and it worked for me.During the day I would only give her the tylenol and teething rings or cold washcloths.Good luck and I hope this helps.
Reply:When my daughter was a baby, I would put a wet wash cloth in the fridge for about half an hour to get cold and let her chew on that. It was a good and cost effective alternative to a teething ring. Orajel is also a life saver. I wish you the best of luck with this, but it is just another bump in the road. By the way, you do have a very cute little one.
Reply:well when my baby was teeth were coming out i gave her Tylenol and buy her teeth gel u know the one you give to a kid when their teeth hurts. go to sav-on and ask for what can you do to help your baby teeth.
Reply:DON'T GIVE THE TYELONYL. GIVE THE BABY A FROZEN

TEETHING RING AND SOME BABY OREL GEL.
Reply:Cool teething rings help. Also, pick up some baby oral gel. It works like regular Oral-gel for adults but is special for babies.
Reply:neither advil or tylanol are NOT for sleep. they are for pain and help fight fevers. Part of teething is not sleeping well. Have you tried the numzit over the counter medication that you put on the baby's gums? That might give him some more relief
Reply:You might try a Playtex Teething Pacifier. When I gave my son the Tylonel it would work for about 3 hours, but I didn't like giving him drugs all the time for the pain. The pacifier seems to work really well for my son. Believe me I have tried many different things for teething.
Reply:you can too give him tyenol or motrin. if people read the box and the back of the bottle. it does say on there that it can be used for teething. it don't say it on motrin but the tyenol it does. you can give them motrin. cause that last's longer then the tyenol. take the wash cloth and put in in the freezer for awhile and that work's pretty good. and another thing the reason why he may be not sleeping good it cause when they lay down they can have pressure on thier ear's like having a earache. that is cause from teething. good luck.

Teething.....?

My 9 month old i think might be getting a tooth, I'm not real sure though, this is my first and i was just curious if anyone could tell me if she is...on her bottom left gum it was white for a while and now theres like this circled indent in the middle of her gum... could it be a tooth? how long you think it'll be till it comes?

Teething.....?
I believe it is a tooth but most of the time the two bottom teeth come in together. My daughter has had the white of her top 4 teeth showing for about a week just ready to cut through, she has had her bottom teeth since 5 months, They cut through at the same time. I think it takes every baby a different amount of time to cut a tooth. You should also be able to run your finger over it and feel it. It will feel different then the rest of her gums.
Reply:it very well could be. if it is a tooth, itll probably push through in a couple days or less.
Reply:it could be. my son had a white dot at the same place where his tooth came through. you can feel of her bottom gum, you should be able to feel a little nub but if you don't her gum should be a little rough in that area. they will drool alot and some of the babies will cry alot because of the pain. infant Tylenol and the teething tablets really worked for me.

good luck

Teething...?

What was the difference between when you baby got the bottom teeth to the top?

Did they act differently, if so, how?

Teething...?
I can't use my son as an example- he never got a tooth until he was 15 months old!!!

Our daughter- a whole new ballgame. She got the 2 on the bottom and I didn't realize they had poked through at first. Same with the 2 on top. Then, she got 5 in at once- and was really cranky.

She just cut her molars- she has 2 in on top and one just came through on the bottom. The other one is working it's way in.

Cranky? A bit as they break through. She does some night waking and comfort nursing with the teething. She is 15 months old now and is getting teeth pretty regularly.
Reply:I dont think my son acted any different between the two sets. A little fussy, a peice of ice in a toddler feeder with mesh worked best for him. Other than that, time was the best medicine =]
Reply:actually no...they came in later than my friends babies did, but my Dr says she is healthier because of it. and she had no problem cutting them, just one day they were there...cool huh?
Reply:I think it depends on the baby and how many teeth are coming at once.

For the first two bottom teeth, my daughter was a bit fussy, a few restless nights and they came through together. Boom! Done! Now it looks like the top four are coming all at once... and possibly the next two on the bottom! (She won't let me see!) They are taking FOREVER! She's been on and off cranky. I can usually distract her during the day, but at night she's a lot more sensitive to it. She's more fussy in general and seems a bit more tired than usual. I think it's worse because so many are coming at once.

I hear molars are the worst though! Can't wait!

Teething ?

my 7 month old is cutting 2 teeth at about the same time. what are some things besides orajel, to help him ease the pain ?

also how long does it normally take for the tooth to come through and the pain to stop ?

he won't take pacifers either !

help ! :(

Teething ?
My girl (5.5 months) has been battling teeth since about 3 months. She will go from having a great week, to a week that is horrible. The worst week was when I could feel a lump on her bottom gum and see the white, but the tooth had not come through. The following week 2 teeth popped at once and she had some relief.

I have learned on here by asking questions about teething that all babies will handle differently. Mine was not handling it well...and was sleep deprived...up all the time at night. I rotated tylenol and motrin...(she HATES orajel and will scream about it) and used hylands teething tablets...I highly reccomend them. Use cold teethers, and I used a frozen carrot which she loved!

I gets worse at night because I think she was more focused on it. Here is a link from a question I asked...I followed jatay's advice and it worked....hope it helps...

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
Reply:let him suck on cold things. Wet a corner of a wash cloth, let it freeze in the freezer and let your baby chew on it. The dry part of the cloth will keep little hand from getting cold.
Reply:I gave my daughter a cool wash cloth the chew on. Also taking a finger toothbrush to the gums. Orajel seemed to work sometime but when it got really bad and she was in alot of pain I gave her Tylenol. Good Luck.
Reply:I found that if I wet a washcloth and put it in the freezer, my daughter would like to chew on that while it thaws. It was cold and she could bite down on it.
Reply:Crazy as this sounds...it helped with mine. We would put a wet wash cloth in a baggie and freeze it. The cold helped soothe and the chewing helped bring the teeth in quicker. Orajel never helped us, we used tylenol and motrin. Usually takes about 2 weeks to get them through enough that it stops hurting, but beware...once they start, its sometimes like one after another. Good luck!
Reply:Tylenol works to get rid of the pain. It lasts longer than orajel. What I did for my oldest was I put on the orajel and then gave him tylenol that way by the time the orajel had stopped working the tylenol was working.

Teething!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

My 7 month old son is just cutting his first tooth and I feel like I'm ready to commit myself to the looney bin!!!!!!!! He is so irritable and keeps on waking up in the middle of the night!!! Any tips on what to do? I look back and wonder how I ever dealt with the colic, this should seem like a breeze? Maybe I've had it too easy for the last few months.

Teething!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Teething is NOT fun. Not for you or your baby. I too wanted to check myself into the looney bin! No sleep for me or my baby made us both cranky and irritable, plus the pain and discomfort my baby was dealing with made her cry all the time. I did try tylenol (not motrin as my baby was only 4 months) and it didn't help. She hated the Orajel - try some on your tongue and you will see why! But I did have success with Hylands Teething Tablets and Gel. These products are all natural and work amazingly well. You can get them at your local drug store or grocery store.

Also try a variety of teething rings and toys. My baby was picky when it came to which toy she wanted to chew on! You can also try rubbing/massaging your son's gums. This seemed to give my baby some relief.

I know that this can be a very trying time, but hang in there. The teeth will eventually pop through. And then the toothy smiles make it all worth it!
Reply:LoL - fun, isn't it? Wait till he's cutting his canines...those are hell!!! My daughter did those on a 4 hour trip home on a full flight.

I have one word for you - Tylenol. Works wonders!
Reply:First of all, a mother never has it too easy! Being a mother is a difficult task no matter what age the child is, all the way from 1 day to 25 years old. It never stops. One of the things that really helped my daughter is I gave her baby tylenol and baby motrin. After the tylenol wait four hours then after the motrin wait six. Combining the two makes it less likely for a child to get an upset stomache and they both use different kinds of pain relievers.
Reply:Tylenol is the better pain reliever, though i've found Ibuprofen works just as well and lasts longer. Baby Orajel is a great help if you can get the stuff in their mouths. I also let my son chew on a frozen rag. He gets soaked but he loves it.
Reply:It's not fun is it? My daughters' first tooth was always the toughest to deal with. Try tylenol, cool teething rings for him to chew on and maybe some Oragel(sp?) "This too shall pass." Good luck!
Reply:I have 3 kiddos the youngest being 8mths old. She is cutting teeth also. I just give her teething tablets at night and motrin. There is nothing you can really do for them. You can use orajel also. It will get better!!
Reply:First give him tylenol or motrin. and then rub orajel on his gumbs. It works wonders!! My daughter is 11 months and has 8 teeth already. Also put a fan in his room, mine wont sleep without it, cause of the fresh air and the noise.

Good luck!!
Reply:Tylenol and sugar free and fat free popsicles. I let my son lick a popsicle if he was fussy from teething, and instantly he would stop. Teething rings worked ok, but the popsicles were instant relief for him. He is 7 months, so it would definately be ok to let him lick on popsicles. Just make sure they are normal popsicles that are fat and sugar free. I also gave him the teething bisquits, you could try that, but keep a very close eye on him, encase he bites a chunk. Good Luck!!!
Reply:you can give him tylenol and an hour later Ibpropen. They don't have the same ingrediant it will help with the pain....Anothe thing my kids loves was a frozen wash cloth....that was their favorite... other than that they are just crazy for a couple weeks
Reply:Try Orajel, Tylenol, and then let him chew on a frozen waffle (with supervision).

Those waffles work wonders! :-)

Teething?!?

my daughter is going to be one in oct. she is screaming pulling her ears and bitting down on her fingers. what is the best thing to do for her.?

Teething?!?
She could also have an ear infection. Check her temperature to see if maybe you should see a doctor. If she is teething and doesn't see to have an ear in fection, give her a cool soft teething toy to chew on. Poor baby, hope she feels better soon.
Reply:Get the dissolveable tablets from your local drug store they dissolve less tha 5 seconds and really work!
Reply:TAKE HER TO THE DOCTOR CALL TODAY FOR AN APPOINTMENT IF SHE'S PULLING AT HER EARS CHANCES ARE SHE HAS A BAD EAR INFECTION. IS SHE FEVERISH? BITING ON HER FINGERS SOUNDS LIKE SHES TEETHING THE BEST THING FOR THAT IS SOMETHING ICE COLD AND TYLENOL WHEN SHE GETS CRANKY BUT DEFINATELY CHECK THOSE EARS GOOD LUCK
Reply:take her to the doctor to be sure she doesn't have an ear infection. it's possible to have one, even if she doesn't have fever.

once you're sure it's just teething, give her ibuprofen (motrin). it won't hurt her to have it, and it will make both your lives so much more pleasant. ibuprofen works so much better than tylenol because it doesn't just dull the pain, it reduces the inflammation and swelling in her gums, too.

just make sure you talk to your doctor or pharmacist about exactly how much medicine to give her for her age and weight. good luck!
Reply:She probably has ear infections. Get her to the pediatrician as soon as possible.
Reply:See your health practitioner - NOW!
Reply:listen to what everybody is telling you. when it is teething try a wet rag in the freezer my son luved it!!! they also have gel teethers u can put in the freezer. orajel is a good standby also give tylenol to help baby deal w/pain!
Reply:If shes pulling her ears I would take her to the Dr. It sounds like she may have an ear infection.
Reply:she could have a ear infection and maybe teething at the same time so for the teething buy a teething ring and the ear infection go to the doctor

Teething???

at what age did your baby get his/her first tooth or teeth

Teething???
6 months
Reply:6 months is average. Some sooner, some later. Mine were right on time. Dentists believe the later the teeth come in the better the teeth.
Reply:All of my children got their first teeth at around six months old.
Reply:one @ 13 months, two @ 12months, and one @ 9 months
Reply:My son was born teething but did not actually cut the first one through until just before 8 months. My daughter about 9 months with her first.
Reply:8 months but they all start at different times
Reply:MY SON WILL BE 7 MONTHS OLD NEXT WEEK AND IS JUST STARTING TO GET HIS FIRST ONE.
Reply:my sister started teething at 8 months
Reply:I had 4 and they all got their first teeth between 5 and 7 months
Reply:My son got his two bottom teeth at the same time. Started with the swollen gums at age 6 months by the age of 7 months he had his two bottom teeth come in at the exact same time.
Reply:My first one didn't get a tooth until 10 months. She has the most beautiful teeth now and has never had a cavity. My second got her first at 6 months, she wore braces but no cavities either. I've had friends whose children got their first tooth at 4 months.
Reply:My baby first started teething at 4 months and it finally broke the gums at 5 months. She got her front bottom 2 at the same time and it was HORRIBLE. I pray that your baby does not have such a fussy time with their teeth. Just be patient with them and remember that they are in pain.
Reply:4 Months was when my baby got his first tooth. But you need to remember that all babies growth are totally different. My sister's baby got his first tooth at 6 months.Just like walking, they will all start walking at different times.
Reply:6 months for them to finally come in...but our first started teething at about 3 months, but then he got them in handfuls, he had all but his 2 year molars by the time he was 16 months.

Our second and third, started teething a little before 6 months but they came in right around the 6 month mark, and their teething has been a slower steadier process! LOL
Reply:You'll get all kinds of ages, and rightfully so, because every little one is different. But here's a trick to use when the teething (and crying) begin. Stick your (clean, of course) finger in the baby's mouth and rub the gums with medium pressure. Rub where, if they had teeth you would be rubbing on the biting edge (not the sides). My wife used this trick on our own as well as the daycare she ran. The babies love it and it helps the ''cutting in'' speeding the whole process up!
Reply:My son got his first tooth (on the bottom) at 3 months, and he had all of the regular baby teeth besides the first molars in by 9 months. Now I'm waiting for molars...he's almost 11 months now. :)
Reply:My first was 4 months and the second was 5 1/2 months.

Teething...?

my daughter is now 8 months and still no teeth however i think she is teething now but i can't really tell.Any suggestions on how to tell? And if she is any advice on what to do for her.

Teething...?
This sounds soooo familiar. I also have an 8 month old with no teeth. She has been drooling and waking up at night just screaming. Once I put some Oragel on her gums she screams even louder and then dead silence. That makes me feel so much better that her teeth were really the problem b/c the Oragel seems to make her sleep better. I also give her some Tylenol when she does this.

Also, look into buying a mesh bag with a handle on it from Munchkin ( I believe that is the spelling). I put frozen peaches in them and that way she can chew on something nutritious with out the worry of her choking on it. She loves it!

Good luck!
Reply:If she is drooling constantly or has her hands in her mouth alot. These are the 2 biggest signs. Gt her a teething toy and let her go at it. My daughter didn't get her first tooth until she was 10 months old. Also she might have a little temp and have some diahere (sp?) Not all kids have this, and she might be a little fussy.
Reply:Well, my case.....my son started drooling more than usual, and aggressively chewing things. Also he followed in his sisters footsteps and gets diarrhea for about five days before the tooth pops out.

Most pediatricians say that teething doesn't cause fever, but do a survey among mothers and most will agree it does.
Reply:im in the same boat!

good luck to you!

:)
Reply:The longer it takes your baby to get her teeth the stronger her teeth will be so no worries there. Some babies don't have a hard time with teething at all and others, well they're just miserable. You can tell by running your fingers along her gums and sometimes you can see the little whities comming in under thier gums. As far as what to do for her, well, baby oragel is good as well as the old wet wascloth in the freezer thing. Frozen waffles are good and rubbery toys meant for babies. Good luck, could be a breeze.
Reply:My daughter (also 8 months) is finally cutting a tooth. She's been really drooly and chewing on everything for about 5 months, but this past week she's been fussier than normal and waking up at night. Give her a teething toy, they really help. If she's feverish, try some infant Tylonol. Orajel works for numbing the gums.

Teething!!!!!?

My 4 month old is teeting, and nothing helps, he is soo miserable and so am i. I've tried orajel, tyenol, teether, frozen washrags, those teething tablets, and NOTHING works! I can feel the tooth, but the silly thing just won't come through. anything to help him?

Teething!!!!!?
I've been there and understand what your going through. Nothing worked for my little girl. She just cried. My advice is to try comforting her as best you can. Offering new activities of interest can sometimes distract her from her ailing tooth. Don't lay her flat at night as it can make the aching worse. Instead prop her up in a carrier or elevated seat at night. Maybe it will help her rest better.

I don't recommend teething toys or gum massagers because it usually just makes the baby that more fussy and frustrated. It will cut when its ready.

Hold her and comfort her when she gets like this. Put her in the car and drive for a while. Turn on the stereo and play some soothing tunes. Go for a walk in the stroller.

It can also be a combination of things that cause a baby to be fussy and not just teething. So be sure that she isn't feeling sick or some other factor is taking place.

Do your best and both of you will get through it. If its any consolation, after my daughter cut her first few teeth, she was as happy as could be. She has been a very happy child since then.
Reply:maybe you should try this when feeding him with a bottle: you get those teets that have rough texture to them, so that when they feed, the teet 'massages' their gums, and help lessen the pain when the teeth come out. hope this helps. you can find it at any baby store.

good luck!!
Reply:Try giving him one of those "freezie pops" that we used to have as kids (frozen slush in a thin plastic tube). The cold will sooth his aching gums, and if he does manage to "cut" a tooth mid-gnaw and the thing breaks open..he'll get a nice sweet surprise (unlike teething rings..nasty chemically gel). Make sure that you clean his gums after his teething session (especially if it DOES break open). Lots of sugar is bad for new, soft baby teeth. A soft, clean washcloth dipped in warm water, wrapped around your index finger should do the trick.
Reply:The only true relief is time. Time for the tooth to break through. And I do remember how endless that wait seems. One thing that helps are hard foods like teething biscuits. These gently work the tooth against the gum helping it/them to break through.

Good luck!
Reply:Teething Basics

Parents often think that their babies are teething when they begin drooling and putting their fingers in their mouth, when they are around three or four months old.

However, this is often simply a normal developmental milestone and has nothing to do with actual teething. Very often, even when infants have these classic 'teething symptoms,' they will not get their first tooth for a few more months or sometimes not until they are more than a year old. So until you see swollen gums or that first tooth coming in, any other symptoms may just be a coincidence.

Teething Symptoms

In addition to drooling, other teething symptoms can include1:

a decreased appetite for solid foods

biting

ear rubbing

gum rubbing

irritability

a rash on your child's face

sucking

waking up at night

And these symptoms occur about 4 days before and up to 3 days after your baby's tooth comes in, although the more bothersome symptoms, including decreased appetite, not sleeping, rash, and ear rubbing are most common on the day the tooth actually erupted or a day or 2 beforehand.

That means that teething is not going to last for weeks or months, as some parents believe, unless your child has one tooth after another coming in.

Keep in mind that many experts do believe that teething doesn't cause any symptoms for most children and that 'teething is the scapegoat for many other events occurring between about 6 and 24 months of age.'

Teething and Fever

Does teething cause fever? Most experts will tell you that teething does not cause fever and definitely does not cause a high fever. It may cause a low grade fever though, especially on the day that the tooth actually erupts, but when it doubt, don't blame your child's fever on teething, especially since it could be a coincidence and your child could be teething and have another illness causing the fever.

In addition to a high fever, such as above 102 F, teething is not usually thought to cause diarrhea, a decreased appetite for liquids, other types of rashes, or a cough.

Teething and Your Child

Although the average pediatrician does not blame many symptoms on teething, if your child has the same symptoms every time he gets a new tooth, then you can likely blame those symptoms on teething, especially if they are fairly mild symptoms and your child otherwise seems well.

When in doubt though, call your pediatrician, especially if your child is waking up, has a fever, or is not eating well. For example, if your child just had a cold, and is now waking up at night, pulling on his ears, is not eating well, and has a fever, then even though you see a tooth coming in, it is more likely that his symptoms are being caused by an ear infection than that tooth.

Treatments for Teething

Perhaps more important than deciding what treatments to give your teething child is making sure he is actually teething. If you are using drooling as your only teething symptom, then your baby will likely be teething for a long time. Instead, review the other teething symptoms above and only consider a treatment for teething if your child is uncomfortable. Remember that teething can be easy and painless for many children.

If your child is uncomfortable, typical treatments include:

a teething aid, such as a wet washcloth, teething rings, etc.

teething biscuits

massaging or rubbing your baby's gums

a pain reliever, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen (if your infant is over six months old)

teething gels, such as Baby Orajel Nighttime Formula, Little Teethers Oral Pain Relief Gel, Baby Orajel Fast Teething Pain Relief, Baby Anbesol Oral Anesthetic Gel

teething tablets

Keep in mind that teething gels and teething tablets are not recommended by many pediatrician and are often overused because parents confuse 'teething symptoms' with other problems such as viral infections, sleeping problems, and ear infections.

If you are frequently using any medication to comfort your child who you think is teething, double check with your pediatrician to make sure that there isn't another cause for his symptoms.

What You Need To Know

teething is relatively painless for many children

the first tooth can come in anytime between 3 to 15 months, with an average age of 4 to 7 months for most infants

if teething does cause symptoms, it is usually about 4 days before and until 3 days after the tooth comes in

don't blame serious symptoms, especially a high fever or irritability, on teething

don't overuse teething gels and teething tablets, since they shouldn't be needed for the average teething child

teething was once thought to be such a big problem that infant's gums were lanced to help the teeth come in!

hope this is what you was looking for good luck

Teething??

hi what are the first signs of teething

my 5 month old daughter has got big red cheeks and on one side its slightly puffy shes not really grumpy and still feeding and sleeping fine at the monent she only wants me not anyone else is this the first sign on teethin?

Teething??
slobbering, crying, and chewing on everything she can get her hands on are other signs. The gums also get reddish.
Reply:I think it's safe to say that she is beginning to teeth. Good luck!
Reply:yes sounds like it count yourself lucky she aint grumpy hope it continues this way
Reply:Sounds like it. Try gently rubbing some Dentinox on her gums.
Reply:Teething causes a multitude of problems- red cheeks, crying, rash, diaper rash, fever, diarrhea....it can be a tricky time:) And when they are 2 and you've forgotten all about this, it happens again! 2 yr old molars:) Ouch:0
Reply:it sounds like its the start of teething to me i have three children and each one reacted differently to teething if her cheeks feel warm it probley is .but if your not sure you can phone your health visitor and check, trust your instincs
Reply:Sometimes the side she is teething can be reddish. They will drool alot and sometimes run a low grade fever. The worse it is the more grumpy and cranky they will be. Try giving teething rings...be careful on some of them..I used some and put them in the freezer and they busted on me. If she is chewing on things..I gave my daughter a damp wash cloth to chew on.
Reply:It could be teething, shes at that age. Our little girl started teething symptoms at 3 months but didn't get her first teeth until she was 7 months. She's 11 months with 6 teeth and it seems to be getting worse as she's getting older, the clingyness being the main problem.

Also i know everytime a new tooth is about to pop through because she gets a bad nappy rash a day or two before one breaks the surface, so look out for that, i was in a huge panic the first time as she'd never had a rash down there before lol

Teething??

My baby is just over three months...she is drooling and crying more then usual. Her Cheeks are red at times. Could she be teething already? If not how soon would she start?

Teething??
Definitely, my son started at about three months. Get a good teether, something safe they can suck on, and lots of bibs! It is a long process....
Reply:some babys are born with teeth so its possible shes teething
Reply:Teething does start in some form around three months. The drooling and the biting. Teeth normally will erupt around 6 months, some sooner others later. But your baby is doing the early teething.
Reply:Sounds like teething to me, my son cut his first tooth at 9 weeks, it's rare but some babies are even born with teeth...
Reply:Oh yes he can!!! Believe it or not some babys are actually born with their first tooth. When my daughter was born she had two red bumps on her bottom gums. At 2 months her first one popped through and 3 months her second and at 5 months she is working on her third.
Reply:Very much possible...my son had his first teeth when he was 4 months old.
Reply:yes it is possible. My daughter started at around 3 months, but she just got her first 4 teeth this week and she's 8 months. so yes it is possible to start early, but it could be a slow process! good luck

Teething??

Is it possible for an infant to be teething at 1 1/2 months of age?

Teething??
my two older sons got 2 teeth at the same time at the age of 2months. my youngest son got his first right at 3months. teething is no fun. keep lots of gel teething rings in the refridgerator...they really help. good luck %26amp; have fun with that baby.
Reply:yes. Their teeth actually start growing inside the womb
Reply:I think so. I have heard that some babies are born with teeth. Anything is possible!
Reply:YUP..I'VE HAD 4 KIDS AND THEY ALL STARTED AT AROUND 2 MONTHS.....TIME TO GET OUT THE TEETHING RINGS..
Reply:It is possible. A baby that i used to watch at the daycare I worked at was born with two teeth. Some of the infants got their teeth at 3 months and some didn't get theirs until almost a year. If they are just crying a lot it could be colic, but if you start to feel the tooth or the gum looks whiter on that spot and they are drooling a lot it is very possible that it is a tooth.

Teething.....?

Could an 11 week old be teething?????

Teething.....?
Yes. My daughter will be 11 weeks on Friday and I believe that she is teething. They say that they normally start around 3-4 months, but it can happen at any time. I have heard of babies that were born with a tooth. So you never know .
Reply:YES!!!! My son is 4 months old and already has 2 bottom teeth!! he started teething when he was just 2 months
Reply:Yes, it could be possible. It's known as very early teething. You may want to make a visit to your doctor to be sure, but some babies have been known to begin teething between 11-12 weeks of age.
Reply:My kid is the same age and is already biting his hand, drooling like mad, chewing on his bottle nipple, getting cranky when feeding and when he gets cranky the only thing that calms him down is ice and orajel. If that is teething then the answer to your question is YES! ((P.S. If it is not teething and is a sign of something wrong then SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME!!!!!! lol
Reply:Absolutly. But you can't give them anything that early. Which really stinks.

Teething.........?

My son is almost 7 months he had 2 teeth break through but he is still in a lot of pain from the other teeth that havent broke through yet. I have tried Tylenol, teething tablets, semi-frozon wash cloths, and Oragel (however it is spelled). Anyone have any other suggestions? He is miserable.

Teething.........?
I gave my daughter a sealed flavor ice Popsicle to chew on.. it worked ind anytime she popped a hole in the wrapper she would suck the juices out... It worked for her I hope this helps...
Reply:awee hey little fella,

are you teething?

poor baby....dont scream.....

only time, sweetie, just time.....

soon you will be able to bite me instead of screaming.

=D
Reply:My DH's grandmother used to rub the chlds gums with her finger to help them break through.
Reply:rub a little whisky on his gums... they did it back in the old days and it was fine
Reply:I'm surprised the tylenol didn't work. That's what we used for my daughter. How about a frozen banana placed in one of those mesh food thingys?
Reply:Gripe water. If you can find it, it's really hard to but it works wonders.
Reply:That's about it. An oldschool remedy, that may not be as socially acceptable in these times, was to take a piece of crust bread crusty bread and dip in in some sweet wine. The nawing on the bread would help allivate some of the discomfort.
Reply:This sounds horrible, but the only thing that would appease my son is a finger dipped in whiskey. If you do it, just dip your finger once in a shot of whiskey and rub the gums...then take the shot for yourself...seriously, my doctor recommended it when nothing else worked, and this did...
Reply:Put some good whiskey on his gums!

That will put him to sleep.

Parents used to do that all the time. I know today's politcally correct parents will think that is abuse. Everybody did it, including my father, I'm 44 now. I know many others who's parents did it and they all swear by it!
Reply:have you talk to your doctor yet?

keep him away from anything that he can put in his mouth, it could hurt him in so many ways!Anything smaller then his mouth is a no-no!He can choke on them!
Reply:DOES HE HAVE A TEETHING RING? HE NEED SOMETHING TO BITE ON. THEY HAVE THIS TEETHER THAT ACTUALLY VIBRATES. IT COST $9.00 THOUGH. MY BABY LOVES IT. IT SOOTHES HER. I FOUND IT AT SAVONS.
Reply:Rub some liquor on them, numbs them up. I never tried it, but I have been told to do this with both my girls.
Reply:I would say try infant motrin, my youngest son is 9 mos. and just popped his 1st tooth in last week and the motrin works really well I would recommend motrin over tylenol any day and maybe a cool towel to chew on
Reply:believe it or not, our pediatrician recommended putting a few drops of brandy on our fingers and then rubbing it onto the gums...

It seems to work but I found oragel worked a bit better...
Reply:a friend of mine said she used to but a piece of ginger, or onion in a mesh bag and the the baby chew on it, I thought it sounded gross but she said it worked, and the mesh bag kept the pieces together to keep the baby from choking.

I had to to the frozen popcicle thing, the pop ice, just leave the thing closed.
Reply:those teething biscuits work well, hard objects help them break through and I know it will get slack but whiskey is great for numbing the gums. Trust me, your pediatricians mom used it on his gums too! The teething toys with the bumps on them that you can pop in the freezer work well too. If you rub your fingers over his gums nice and hard it helps a lot.

I thought I might explain how gums are cut so you can better understand why it takes so long for the teeth to break through. The teeth move up and down, each time they break through another layer of the gums, even after they have broken through completely they will sometime pull back a bit and then pop out for good.

Good luck hun, just know we have all been there......my mom missed out on a few though as two of us were born with two teeth! Poor thing, and she nursed us all!
Reply:Now I dont remember what these things are called. But Iused it for my son. At Walmart or really any store. There is a thing (teething bag) I used to freeze grapes and put them in this bag for him to chew on he loved the taste and it was cold on his gums. ( I know they cant have grapes yet but withthe bag they cant get anything but the juice out) it is really cool. Also I would buy big fat Carrots and let him chew on those. it is nice and hard and seemed to soothe him. Hope I could help. Good luck Teething SUCKS!!!
Reply:I use Nurofen for children or a natural remedy called ashton and parsons, that is a powder you rub on the gums or put dry on the tongue.
Reply:I was helping my church to look after 1 year old babies and 1 mother shared with me that about steaming the egg for baby to grow teeth. You can try that.

Boil water until boiling stage, off the fire than put 1 egg into the boiling water. steam it for about 15 mins. 1 egg a day.

You may try this. She said her daughter had this problem, after she serve her boiled egg, and now she had a lot of teeth. I saw her teeth, all her milk teeth has grown.

GOD bless,
Reply:Do not pass go, do not collect $100 but do...Go to the healthfood store (sometimes mainstream pharmacies carry it) and buy HYLAND "teething tablets", immediately. They are tiny pills that melt in the babies mouth. Follow the directions. Babies are very drug naive (Their bodies are pure and not used to drugs). This is why when you give a baby Tylenol, it knocks them out...ZZZZ. The teething tablets will get rid of the pain quickly and the baby will not be tired, he will be happy! Pediatricians and Nurse Practitoners recommend them all the time. I do, and I also used them on both of my children when they were teething (They are 16 and 18 yrs old, now.) So the teething tablets have been around for a VERY long time. Do not give Tylenol with the teething tablets- not necessary and is redundant. P.S. After you give the teething tablets. Half a frozen bagel works, as does a "teething ring." They are filled with water that freezes and feels good on their gums. A frozen bagel works just as well. Does not fall apart, is cold, not too cold for their hands, and they get a few crumbs- yum, yum.

Do Not give babies egg yolks until your doctor says they are old enough. Many babies are very allergic.
Reply:Hyland's Teething Tablets

frozen metal spoon

wet frozen wash cloth

ice cube or "boob cube" in a baby safe mesh feeder

stalk of cold, hard celery

get one of those "finger condom" type baby toothbrushes and massage his gums

EDITED TO ADD:

DO NOT give a 7 mos old baby an egg! It is a common allergen!!!!!

Teething...?

My son is 18mo. and has just cut 3 out of 4 mollars. The forth is trying to push through, but seems to be stuck. His gums are extreamly puffy (BLISTER LIKE) around this tooth and he is so cranky (not eating or sleeping). I have an appt. at the dentist scheduled for Friday...I was just wondering if anyone has had problems with their babies cutting teeth and what the dentist may do?. (NO this is not normal teething...something is wrong! So please only serious answers!) Thanks! : (

Teething...?
The dentist may cut the gum so the tooth can come through. For now use anbesol on it and give him lots of popsicles and cool treats.
Reply:Try going for an x-ray.
Reply:Until you make it to the dentist, here's a couple of things you can do. Give him motrin around the clock; this will help with pain AND swelling! Don't give it as needed, give it every 6 to 8 hours regardless to keep the swelling down. Also, take a teething ring and put in the freezer, let him bite down on a COLD SQUISHY teething ring; this will also help with pain and help the tooth come through. Hope this helps!

Teething ?

my baby is 3 months and will turn 4 the 28th of this month.. hes has changed.. before he usto always be laughing and happy.. and now most of the time hes crying..and angry .he starts crying .. i try to rock him .. or give him his pacifier or give him milk .. but noting seems to work untill he gets tired of crying and just falls asleep.. this is my first child .. %26amp;%26amp; i really dont know whats wronq with him can it be teething maybe ?

Teething ?
I would think it is teething or maybe gas. Have you tried gas drops? As long as he is not having any other symptoms such as a fever, I would think that it is more than likely teething. Maybe you should try oragel when he starts crying like that or let him chew on something cold and see if that settles him any.
Reply:Could be teething. My son started about 3 1/2 months old and will be 5 months tomorrow. Didn't really start getting cranky until about a week ago. Be sure that your son doesn't have a fever because that is bad and if so call his doctor right away. I would try some baby oragel and see if that helps his pain. It works for mine. Hope everything works out and good luck.
Reply:Does he like to bite the bottle nipples, maybe drools more than normal or are his gums a little swollen? these are all good signs that he is teething if so start giving him cold stuff to chew on and be patient this will pass in time! A couple of my favorite tricks are a wet rag frozen in the freezer or a frozen waffle.
Reply:If he has a slight fever every now and then, possibly he is teething. When you say milk, do you mean formula? B/c if its cows milk that could be the reason, its VERY hard for babies that young to digest cows milk. Other then that are you feeding him any baby foods yet? If you are keep a record of when and what you feed him and what time he starts to fuss. There is a possibility of food allergies.

Back to the teething, is he drooling alot? My daughter puts EVERYTHING in her mouth and chews on it, and she drools worse then a mastif! lol she wears a bib all day long its so bad...she is teething. Otherwise give your doc a call and tell then you are concerned...they should know! :) Good luck I know how bad it is to have a crying baby and not know what to do to help! :(

Teething..?

My son is usually a happy baby but lately he has been acting HORRIBLE.. Always wanting to be held, never happy, whining all the time. Could this be because he's teething (he's 8 months old)? Is there anything else I can do for him besides orajel the gums and tylenol?

Teething..?
teething tablets (they have regular and homeopathic ones) You can wet a wash rag and put it in the freezer until it gets very cold and hand it to him to chew on. I would say that it is definetly a possibility that he is teething. My daughter started teething at 3 months. You can tell if he has teeth coming in by looking at his gums. Most all babies get there front 4 teeth first, my daughter got her bottom one first. Just look at his gums and see if they look a little red or swollen, or if you can see a little white bump under the skin on the gums. He also may run a very mild fever. IF he is teething, he will start drooling really bad, and with most babies they get a rash around their mouth from the constant wetness. If you have a problem with this, you can clean and dry the area very well and get some aquafor ointment, or some desitin clear to put around his mouth as a skin protectant, it will definetly help it. You can also use vaseline, but it doesn't have healing agents like the desitin and aquafor do. So it will work as a protectant, but it most likely wont heal it very fast.

Good LUCK!! Hope this helps :)
Reply:Teething Table, all natural, at Walmart. Work WONDERS! Or give him a FROZEN blueberry waffle, tastes good and feels good on the gums. Good Luck!
Reply:the teething tablets are called HUMPHREY'S and you can get them at wal-mart or Walgreen's they are homeopathic and help i have a 7 month old that is teething.
Reply:I used Highlands Teething Tablets u can get them from Walmart. 100% natural disolveable works GREAT!

The ingredients look okay to me, but you could call the on call pediatrician to make sure it is safe. Have you tried baby tylenol?
Reply:WOULD ASK UR DOC

Teething!!!!?

my poor guy is teething, and i finally used some orajel, and it worked great for an hour. now poor baby is in pain again, and i cna't use the orajel that much, does anyone know anything that works better, or i can use more often if needed?

Teething!!!!?
After the Orajel runs out, try using a toy that you can refrigerate or freeze. I find that works great. It's fine to use Orajel a few times a day, but as far as amount and how many times, you should call and ask your pediatrician.
Reply:Try teething tablets... or freeze a wet wash cloth and let him chew on it.
Reply:Motrin and cold rags to suck and bite on.
Reply:Rub an orange rind into his gums, it works 100% better than orejel or the equivalent. The acidic gets right into the gums and can't be licked away!

Also dependant on the age give him a painkiller, like panadol.
Reply:Tylenol, cold teething rings, homeopathic teething tablets under the tongue, Vaseline on red cheeks, and ask your son's dr. about how much orajel you can use.
Reply:You could always use something very cold. I know for my boys, I used to wet a wash cloth and stick it in the freezer for a little while just so that it was really cold, not frozen and this always seems to help a lot since they were always putting their hands in their mouth.

Also - you can get those teether rings that you can freeze and try that.

There's not a ton of stuff we can really do for them, but know that it doesn't seem to last too long for them. It's usually more off an on then a constant pain.

Good luck.
Reply:I always use Tylenol Infant Drops. Ask your pediatrician for the right dosage for your son. It lasts 4 to 6 hours. I've never had a problem and it makes my son feel better in about 30 minutes.
Reply:I use teething rings, tylenol, and teething tablets. I heard that the orange peel works but my Dr. said not to give my son any kind of citric foods until he is one. I would talk to his Dr. before trying that. Good luck!!
Reply:be very careful with "pain relievers" try the frozen wash cloth or frozen rings.
Reply:There is an oil you can get from the health food store that has some clove oil and other things in it that I have used with my 3 boys. You can use as much as you need with no bad side effects. You might want to ask someone who works there, but they usually have a kids section and I believe the one I used is called gumomielle.
Reply:I've learned using those teething rings that you freeze...They don't work too well...I have two little ones and my youngest just cut her 4 top teeth...(top two and the ones on the sides) The best thing that helped was putting her in her high chair with a banana falvored pop cicle with no sugar added!! She had fun and got messy haha..Also try getting some of those biter biscuits or the little easy to dissolve finger foods!! It got her through it..
Reply:My son loves a frozen washcloth. I am not sure how old your child is, but they say don't give Motrin until after 6 months old!
Reply:i've been told that too much orajel can cause the babie's gums to become tough, making it harder and more painful for the teeth to poke through, so i waited until my daughter's teeth poked through to give her orajel. i give her tylenol every four hours, and i bought some tablets at walmart. they are made by Hyland's. they are homeopathic, and they are used to ease pain and help with restlessness. i like them because they are 100% natural, and pretty cheap. Hyland's also makes cholic tablets.
Reply:My son's doctor told me not to use Oragel because it actually makes the skin tougher for the tooth to come in. I thought he was crazy but I talked to some other mom's and they also told me not to use it. Right now I'm using infants Tylenol and teething tablets. He can't hold a teething ring or anything yet so he kinda chews on his fist.

Teething??????????

My son is four months old and teething. He is in lots of pain i was just woundering what some of you did to sooth the pain.....?????/

Teething??????????
Take a washcloth and wet one corner and then stick the whole thing in the freezer. Then he can grip the non-frozen part and chew on the frozen part.

Massage his bottom gums with your finger. My (6 month old) daughter loves it when I press pretty hard and even kind of scratch at them.
Reply:Hyland's Teething tablets are amazing, and you can give them to him quite often. They're all natural, as well.
Reply:I used Hylands teething tablets (you can get them at Walmart or pretty much anywhere) They are natural which makes me feel better. I also would roll up washrags, wet them, then freeze them. She loved to chew on them. You can also alternate motrin and tylenol every 3 hours. I never found orajel to help much since it pretty much wiped off as soon as she slobbered.
Reply:take a wash cloth and wet it ring it out and stick it in the freezer that always works :)

or you can try baby orajel my daughter hated the taste but she was so much happier once I applied it :)

good luck it's a hard time!
Reply:Wet frozen washcloths are amazing. The teething tablets are also wonderful. Sometimes a little tylenol helped out. Good luck.
Reply:My son is also four months and teething. My pediatrician told me to give him Tylenol. I also use natural teething tablets and drops, and teethers that you put in the refrigerator.

I also started taking a wash cloth, getting it wet and putting it in the freezer for about 10 minutes. My son loves to chew on it. I just gave him a bite biscuit today also and he loved it! Although it is very messy and you have to stay with him the whole time he has it.

Good Luck!

Teething..?

My nine month old has been showing signs of teething for about 4-5 months now but has yet to cut any through. Is this normal?

Teething..?
Yes it is normal*
Reply:yes, of course.

my first one didn't cut a tooth utnil he was 13months old.

every child is different..... :)

don't worry
Reply:everyone's different
Reply:It ain't no way,,he has been showing signs of teething for 4 to 5 mths..only being 9 mths old...He might be showing signs of it now...between 9 to 13 mths

Teething??

my son is teething, could this cause him to have a fever??

Teething??
alot of babies get fever runny nose, symptoms kinda like a cold. and others dont get any symptoms at all except sore gums and crankiness.
Reply:yes...along with lots of slobber too! more so on the slobber. my oldest son, had a mild fever and then my youngest never had a fever with his teeth! it just depends on the child! go to this web site and read all about the teething!!! hope this helps ya!!

http://pediatrics.about.com/od/teething/...
Reply:Yup they can %26amp; I know that you didn't ask it but jsut to let you know ..don't use the baby gels for teething they end up swallowing it %26amp; it gets into the tummy %26amp; can cause problems..like upset tummies %26amp; vommiting

Teething??

Well my 10month old already has 7 teeth. He got his first one at 6 months old. And now I believe he is getting his 1 year molars in. He is always sticking his hands and anything else he can towards the back of his mouth. I also noticed he is drooling more than what he did with all his other teeth. He is also getting 3 other teeth in at towards the front and sides.

My question is. How long does the sleepless nights last??

For the past 3 nights he has been crazy. Like last night after about 1:30 he was up every hour and whinned for 30 mins then went back to sleep for 30 mins then woke again. I don't know what to do. I have tried rocking him, tylenol, teething toys, cold fruit, biter busicuts, zwieback toast.I will NOT give orajel as it stings and hurts more than it helps. And even letting him sleep with me. And still NOTHING. He still whines and cries a lot. He has never been like this. He didn't seem to bothered by his other teeth. Any advice would be GREAT.

Teething??
I feel for you. My husband is also a night worker- and it DOES get worse at night when they have nothing to distract them. Last night our baby was up 3 times. She is cutting her eye teeth.

We use children's motrin and it works great- it lasts 8 hours and really eases the pain of teething. We also use pickles in a munchkin feeder bag to help- she had one tonight and went to town.

Try a frozen washcloth- wet it, fold it, freeze it in a ziploc baggie and give to your baby out of the bag. This helps a ton.

We don't use anything on the gums. I got scared when a friend's son had a bad reaction- and never went to that to ease the pain.

We also cosleep- which helps to get her back down quickly and easily. I nurse her right back down. She is off though, even with the motrin.

Our pediatrician suggested alternating tylenol and motrin last month, and we haven't tried that as yet, mostly because we have no infant tylenol in the house.

The above usually works well.

Good luck and I hope it eases soon.

Edit: it MAY be the start of molars. Our baby had hers in when she was 1 years old, but they push up and then take a break only to resume again. That is what is happening with the eye teeth right now. Our pediatrician couldn't believe that she was cutting them, but she was. Surprise, surprise.

Our son got his first tooth when he was 15 months old. Way late- and it was easy teething. I'd prefer that again!
Reply:To tell you the truth, I let my daughter bite my fingers.

It was a nice break from her fingers when she was getting her one year molars (a few months ago).

She has not become a "biter".

It did help her. She was a cranky mess every other day (it seemed) for at least two months.

Those teeth are HUGE. Now that I see them in her mouth, I can understand her pain.

They take so long to come up.

Bless your baby's heart AND yours!

Keep your chin up.

This is temporary.
Reply:Try chamomille tea with splenda in it. My son is teething too and the chamomille has a soothing affect while the warmness on the gums feels good to them. I hope this works! Splenda is made from sugar but has less chance of keeping them up on a sugar buzz and it won't give him diarreha.
Reply:I always kept frozen bananas in the freezer. They are cold so they feel good on the gums and they can't choke on them. I would do this then give the Motrin. It is suppose to be better on helping ease the pain. It is a hard time unfortunately but it will pass and you will forget it...until you have another baby and go through it again..LOL Good luck!
Reply:the best thing that worked for my twins girls was Humfrey tell them is for teething is a little pill that dissolves in the water and it makes them sleep and stop allot of symptom of teething i don't really know if the spelling is humfree in right but ask the pharmacist you could get it over the counter it does not need to be prescribed by a doctor guarantee to work good luck go to CVS OR RITE AID THEY WILL HAVE IT
Reply:you know 2 things my mom did to help soothe teething, lethim sip chamomille tea it helps with the swelling and you can rub it on his gums too, another remedy is put some whiskey on a rag and rub the rag on his gums, it numbs it. Whole Foods carries a variety of Hyland Natural teething products, such as the gel (which is nothing like the orajel) and the tablets.
Reply:Your son is about the same age as mine!

I think it was 1.5 weeks ago.. we were up every flippin hour... because of the teeth.

My son is also sticking his hands in the back of his mouth. I dont think it's the molars.. but it could possibly be.

Our sleepless nights lasted about 3 days. It was horrible.. but now he's sleeping like an angel!

You know... i hate to say this.. and I'm sure it's going to pi$$ you off.. but you just have to deal with it. That's all we did... got up.. rocked him ... held him... Cause it hurts.. no matter what!

Did you have braces as a kid? I did.. and i an only imagine what it feels like to have teeth comin' thru. Give him some extra love ... and if it lasts more then a week.. then id consult with a doctor.

Hang in there,,,it DOES get better. And yet.. there will be more sleepless nights to come for both of us!

EDIT: I'm not trying to be a be-atch... but, it does end. I am currentlly living alone... working 40 hours a week... getting up at 7am.... going to bed at 2am... i am up 19 hours a day... and i got thru the teething... getting only 2 hours of sleep... you can do it too! It wont last forever... Sleep when the baby sleeps... nap when you can... drink coffe... It will be over soon.. i promise.
Reply:For my girls I ended up pretty much doing what you are but instead of teehting toys we froze washcloths and carrot sticks" long enough for them to not choke on, even some bananas. Frozen waffles are good, but I have never tried them. As for the sleeplessness check to see something in his bed, pjs isnt bothering him, sometimes even being to warm will set my girls off. A certain noise at night that hes not use to, a pet whos bugging him, daddie snoring" just saying" Or it could be night terrors, my 3 yr old still gets them. And unfortunatly if its Terrors theres nothing you can do cept comfort as best you can and DO NOT WAKE THEM, never wake a child having a night terror as the tramua can stick, from what my RN father told me. I hope some of what I have said helps, sorry its not more, as each child is unique on their own. Good luck and check out the 2 websites one is a chatroom for just us moms and the other is a fountain of help for parents of all ages.

And to the parent who suggested Whiskey on a qtip where did this info come from, Yes once upon a time long long ago they suggested it, but they do not anymore. So please dont.
Reply:Going through it also, I feel your pain and I understand that sometimes NOTHING works, trust me I understand! It's so hard when you can't take their pain away and to see them in such pain hurts you as a mother. Hang in there, it gets better ;) My hubby works nights too so I know how that feels:(

its hard when your the only one that deals with this, totally understand...we too have tried everything, nothing helps. Good luck and Hang in there :)

ETA: Of course I HAD to answer, I can't resist many questions, you know that...and well, I feel your pain as kolly is teething also...hehe
Reply:i feel your pain. just this month, at 10 months old, my son got his first 2 bottom teeth. it was horrible. i slept at 2am almost every night for a week. i am a stay at home mom and it was hard, so i can only imagine what you are going through as a working mom. he is now getting a top tooth and it doesn't seem to bother him much.

my son uses teethers sometimes, but he doesn't like cold teething rings. the Dr. suggested the cold washcloth but i never tried it. honestly, i give him my arm and let him bite on it sometimes. he only has a few teeth though, it might hurt with your baby with 7! My son has a vibrating teething that he likes sometimes. Here is one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000M52...

He also likes biting on the crib so i'm going to get something to cover the crib rail

Tylenol seems to be the best relief for my baby, but you said it's not working. Did you try Motrin yet? Also, I have found different types of teething tablets. The hylands ones that you put under the tounge and ones that you dissolve and put right on the gums. Maybe you could look for that?

here is a site for nighttime teething relief just found it

GOOD LUCK i know teething is hard. but like everyone else is saying... it will pass =) thank god lol

Loose Teeth

Teething????

My baby is 3 and a half months old and the last few days he has had really red cheeks. Could he be teething already?? Isn't it too early??

Teething????
My son got his first tooth at 4 months so its not too early. signs: temp, runny nose, spitting up, drooling (lots), chewing on everything, messy stools, fussy, ect. signs similiar to a cold. My son is 10 months and has 8 teeth already so get ready!
Reply:Every baby is different - but I was guess that maybe your baby has a bit of dry skin that makes his cheeks red - all 3 of mine get a bit rosy in the winter do to the dry weather.

Teething!!?

normally my baby is a good sleeper but the last couple days he hasnt been sleeping as good, hesw very tired he goes to sleep easily, but he wakes up screaming, and its a different cry than normal, could it be that he is teething. his gums also look a little white not spots but all over???

Teething!!?
Could be thrush. Is there a white coating all over or the actual gums white? If the gums are white then he could be anemic. If there is a white coating it is probable thrush. Thrush is a yeast infection that happens alot in the mouth but also travels down the throat into the stomach which gives you a really painful case of heartburn. Take the baby to the doctor and get him checked out please.
Reply:how old is your baby?
Reply:IF you are breast feeding it could be thrush which is like a yeast infection in the mouth. See the doctor tomorrow. IF your baby is usually a good sleeper there is an obvious problem.
Reply:well if the whiteness looks like its under the gums like teeth pushin against it then its prolly teething it sounds like it but if its a white look that looks like it on top of the gums then thats prolly something different does he drool alot and chew fingers or tug at ears?? those are also signs of teething if he doesnt do any of those other things then maybe its not teething

Teething ?

My daughter is cutting a tooth and I want to know what is the best kind of teething gel to use for her gums? There is Little Teethers, Orajel, and other brands in the store. I was so confused that I wanted to do a poll to see what everyone prefers. I am talking about gels only not homeopathic.

Teething ?
Orajel and Little Teethers are virtually the same aside from having different brand names. They both work well though one may have a better flavor than the other.
Reply:Orajel worked best with our kids.
Reply:I prefer using Orajel the best. The flavors agree better with my daughter, and it always works well for her.
Reply:I never found any of them to work very well, Tylenol, and/or Motrin, but only Motrin if they're 6 months old or more.
Reply:actually, we were recently informed by our pediatrician that the gels can toughen the gums, making it harder for the teeth to come through. and when they do start coming in, it's even more painful, making the parents want to use more of the gel. the best stuff in the world to use is a teething tablet. it dissolves almost instantly, and has little to no side effects.
Reply:You know I read in a Baby Magazine that you can also put a slightly damp baby washcloth in the freezer and then once it is a bit frozen (not all the way) give it to the baby to chew on....It's good for scratching the gums and provides a nice numbing effect as well.

Other than that I used Orejel.... be patient, your little girl will get through this.
Reply:Oral gel.. let her chew on a Wood spoon or a Wet rag helps also..
Reply:Just a gel won't work on it's own.

They need to chew on something to help cut the tooth through sooner and it has to be very cold so that the pain is relieved while doing so, so apply gel immediately after the baby is done chewing the refrigerated chew toy.
Reply:As a mother of 3 grown kids I can tell you that none of my kids had any problems when it came to teething. I gave them all this homeopathic remedy that worked miracles with all of them: Humphrey's #3. No fever, no drooling, ro diarrhea. As soon as my first grand kid is born I'll get it so my daughter don't have to go through all the teething problems.

Here is the link to where you can see it, read about it and buy it on line. By the way, gels do not work...all the baby does is lick it off and swallow numbing medication...not good for the baby. Good luck!!!

http://store.darisimall.com/115782.html
Reply:only Tylenol worked for our daughter. And teething rings. The gels didn't seem to do anything.
Reply:Oragel works, but you will not want to use that all the time. I found that when you put a teether in the freezer and let them suck on it. The ice helps to numb the gums. It worked great with my boys.
Reply:walmart and I think CVSpharmacy sells teething tablets they work and they just dissolve in babys mouth
Reply:orajel worked wonders with my son.. but only lasted a few minutes, i found that teething rings helped alot too,,,
Reply:Yeah, my ped recommended against all of these. He recommended old fashioned teething rings.
Reply:I have 3 children. Orajel just comes off because the baby drools so much plus I hate the taste and how it makes my own mouth feel (try it on yourself before your baby).

Here are a few suggestions on what we used with our kids:

Teething rings are good (hard toys for the baby to chew on), there are some teething rings that can be put in the fridge so it gets cold, my kids loved those and their favorites were just plain old pop ice. They loved to chew and suck on it but make sure you hold the baby in your lap while it does that. That way you can make sure they don't to big of a piece broken off.

Give the baby your finger to chew on and rub it too. This way you can massage sore gums. Give your child a cold, damp washcloth to chew on. Use ice that's been wrapped in a wash cloth.

If all else fails you can give the baby some Baby Tylonal but be sure to look at how much to give your baby first on the bottle.
Reply:If your baby has teething pain offer her something to CHEW on, as this will provide the BEST comfort, and also assist with the eruption of her teeth.

Teething gels (numbing agents) should be avoided. Not only are they unecessary but they may hinder a baby's ability to swallow (which can be upsetting for a baby and make nursing more difficult). * First expressed by my pharmacist and later confirmed during my baby's first dental visit and by his pediatrician.

Make sure you offer plenty of fluids to replace what is lost through drooling.

If she is too uncomfortable at night when unable to chew on teethers you can use baby Tylenol as needed.

There are lots of fun options that can be chewed and also played with as toys. My son's FAVOURITE teether was my own finger. I massaged his gums when he wasn't applying pressure. It brought immediate calm and relief every time he fussed.

I bought a dozen different types of teethers before I found something my son liked. I'd like to recommend teething towels (which have the added bonus of absorbing drool), bristle buddies, and teething beads which are easier for little hands to hold (most teethers were too big for a young baby's mouth, or too awkward to hold and spent more time on the floor than in his hands).

Here are a few product reviews:

Towels (also by Sassy): http://www.epinions.com/pr-Teethers-Munc...

Beads: http://www.epinions.com/The_First_Years_...

Bristle buddies: http://www.epinions.com/The_First_Years_...

My son LOVES the hedgehog! I HIGHLY recommend it (he has the smiley-man too but the hedgehog is easiest to hold and use.)

Good luck :o)
Reply:when my baby was teething i used pacifiers.. i would place them in the freezer for about 20 minutes and let him chew where it hurt ... my doctor says the gels are not good for them.
Reply:My daughter had cut teeth very early and I used this stuff called "Hurrican Gel". It's like "Topical" which is the stuff that the dentists use - just not as strong. It worked like magic!

Orajel can upset the baby's tummy because it's a gel and doesn't stay in place. The hurricane gel is does not have a liquid consistance to it.

You could also try some teething rings - but I think that numbing the pain for them is so much better! I hope this helps you!

Good luck!
Reply:I didn't use any of these on my son. I was told that if you do it toughens the gums which causes more pain for the baby. I did use popsicles, cold washclothes and I rubbed a little bit of pure vanilla on his gums which helps to numb. He liked the taste of it too!

Teething...?

When your baby was teething, did he or she chew on the nipple of the bottle?

Teething...?
Absolutely! My son chews on anything within his little arm's reach. His first tooth broke through about two weeks ago, and now his 2nd one is popping out. Nobody told me there might be a lot of bloo!! His first tooth was bloody when it came through, and it was all over his jammies, his face, and his teething toy. At first I was alarmed until I realized it was just his tooth and he wasn't in any pain.
Reply:yes my 2 year old did
Reply:She chewed on everything, my nipple included (ouch!)
Reply:When a baby is teething, they are likely to chew on anything they can get in their mouths. The purpose of that is to help the teeth break the gum. Keep cold teething rings in your fridge. Nice hard toys like links and the such are perfect also. Enjoy those teeth as they come in.
Reply:My son will be 6 months on Sunday and his first tooth came through today...he has been chewing on everything...anything that he can get in his mouth..it goes there...

DEBORAH
Reply:Yes they chew on everything. Walmart has a teething tablet(in the baby dept) its wonderful, my great Grandson uses them and has had no problem. Hes now 16 months and is cutting his first molders. Sure wish they would have had them when mine were babies.

hiking boots

Teething????

My 4 month old woke up with a diaper rash on Friday, loose stools, not eating as much, and not napping like she was before. She also drools like a St. Bernard. Could she be teething? I don't feel anything out of the norm but she has never had smooth gums so I can't tell if anything coming through.

Teething????
Whether doctors think so or not my kids had all of those symptoms when cutting teeth. Just keep Vaseline on her rash it does not burn and keeps it from getting wet or poop on it. I kept a bib on my kids and changed it a couple times a day with the drool. Just make sure it is a soft one some of the terry cloth can be rough and rub their chins. A lot of times the gums will get very red when they are coming through.

All in all it sounds like teeth to me.

The diarrhea should calm down but the drooling will not until all the teeth are in, but every time more start to erupt mine got diarrhea again. My kids were late in getting teeth close to one, but once they did they cut 4 and 5 at a time, makes for a cranky baby.

I used Motrin if needed, it last longer and also helps with swelling. There is a product called "Teething Tablets" they are all natural and are sold at Wal-Mart type stores by the vitamins. They worked wonders for my kids. They are little tablets that dissolve as soon as slobber hits them. I am not sure if you can give a 4 month old Motrin though read the label or ask your doctor.
Reply:I'd say she probably is teething. Give her a teething ring or a wet washrag to suck on. If she is really crabby give her some tylenol for the pain. My daughter starting teething at 3mo so don't think it's too early. Good Luck.
Reply:Experts disagree about whether teething actually causes symptoms — like fussiness, diarrhea, and fever — or whether these common symptoms are not related to teething at all and just coincidentally appear at the same time as emerging teeth. Regardless, many parents maintain that their teething babies do experience discomfort (though some babies get through the process with no problems at all). The symptoms most likely to trouble a teether include:

• Drooling (which can lead to a facial rash)

• Gum swelling and sensitivity

• Irritability or fussiness

• Biting behavior

• Refusing food

• Sleep problems

Though many parents report that their babies have loose stools, runny noses, or a fever just before a new tooth arrives, most experts don't think teething is to blame for these symptoms. But I think it is.
Reply:my son started drooling, putting everything in his mouth etc at 10 weeks. i was convinced he was going to get a tooth any day....he is 6 months and his first tooth popped through yesterday! the only changes i saw right before the tooth came through were that he stopped sleeping through the night and his drooling actually slowed down a bit. now that it came through things are back to normal....drool and all!

Teething???

My daughter is teething, what all can I give her?

Teething???
These work with my daughter, maybe they'll work for you:

1) A wet wash cloth - you can freeze it to soothe her gums.

2) Give her your finger to chew on.

Talk to your doctor about:

1) Orajel

2) Infant Tylenol

A lot of older people tell me to put a little rum or brandy on their gums. Haven't tried that though.
Reply:Tylenol, Morton, something cold or with texture
Reply:Tylenol or Motrin for the pain - especially if she's fighting you on feedings. Something cold to gnaw on - keep a wet washcloth in a baggie in the fridge for her, or give her a frozen bagel or one of those teething rings to chew on. I wouldn't do anything like Orajel or something like that because it can burn their gums.
Reply:Take a dry washcloth and tie it in a knot, then wet washcloth and pop it in the freezer, she can chew on it once it's frozen.

I cut up fruit and froze it, then I put it in one of these thingies so my child could chew on that cool fruit, without choking on it. Here's what I'm talking about - they have them at walmart and babies r us and drugstore.com:

http://www.drugstore.com/qxp95236_333181...

I also put ice cubes in that Munchkin thingie. Any teething rings with liquid inside can be refrigerated and are nice to chew on. And if they didn't intend for teething babies to take Tylenol then it wouldn't exist - I used infant tylenol for teething with all my kids.

Over the counter gel that is for teething/tooth pain is dangerous, if your child is allergic to the active ingredient they can go into shock. My pediatrican and the doctors in my family DO NOT advise using topical numbing gel/ointment for any child, especially not an infant.
Reply:I give my daughter tyneol but of course you dont want to give it too often as well at night i give her a little whiskey/brandy rub it on her gums put it in a glass with an ice cube and put back in the freezer it wont freeze and the ice wont melt then after 30 minutes to an hour dip your finger in and rub it on it will feel good from cold as well you could use the ice cube if you wanted since it will have been sitting in the brandy and once she has drifted off sip a little yourself to help you sleep since chances are it was a long day with a teething baby.

During the day I use tyneol, baby orajel(easy), and sometimes the cool teether rings that go in the fridge but she isnt big on them and other than that she chews on her own finger alot. Good Luck
Reply:You can give her teething bisquits, they sell them at the grocery store. I believe they are made by gerber. you can give her animal crackers or baby toast. The taste and feel of it on her gums should take her mind off the pain. Other than that I have always used baby liquid tylenol.
Reply:infants tylenol or motrin, for pain. orajel for the actual gums. you can give her a frozen teething ring. My son liked them when they weren't frozen. You can also try a wet wash cloth, depending on how old she is. Good luck
Reply:there alot of thing you can do ang give i used to wash my hands and massage them. or you can give her green onion to suck on it help the pain and is good for there teeth
