Help...? Teething? Frozen cloth?

My daughter is teething and unfortunately she is only 14wks old... so she can't hold anything herself so I have to do things for her. All the teething toys are too big for her mouth even if I can hold them there for her. I let her chew my finger, or on a newborn "soothie", a gum brush we got in a first aid kit, and a finger gum brush that's softer than the other on (but it's still big in her mouth becuase she is young and just because she is a baby with a small mouth). So are there any other ideas? Maybe non-conventional ideas?

I also freeze the corners of a washcloth and let her gnaw on those, but my question is: Did your baby just kind of suck the water out??? I'm sure the cold feels good, but I think she thinks the water is a treat or food too...??? And she seems to need them all the time. Can the tooth be coming soon? She's been showing signs of teething for 3-4 wks. Is this too much water for her? There really isn't much on there but I guess it might add up..........

Help...? Teething? Frozen cloth?
My son when he was little, he would suck the cloth, and get the water out and he's ok. I don't think there is a problem with it. :)
Reply:My daughter is 4 months old and I could swear she is teething because she chews on everything and she can hold things. She had her dr appt and the doctor checked her gums and said she isn't teething. Babies chew everything. They have a natural instinct to put everything in their mouth. They discover a lot of the world that way. She could be teething it is a bit young. She might just be checking out her world. She might be thinking the cloths are a treat. I wouldn't worry about the water adding up though cuz it is probably minimal. Just to be safe I would ask the dr.
Reply:I didn't know that you could have too much water. I always heard that washcloths weren't good because they were somewhat abrasive when they are frozen.

Try one of those squishy rings that go in the freezer.

(I can't remember what we used...)

Good luck and congratulations!
Reply:wow!! you have an early teether.... I thought my son was early (started teething at 3 months and then cut the tooth at 5 months)

So i guess it takes about 2 months to cut a tooth...idk--all babies are different. I would recommend baby orajel but check the age on it.

We always used children's benadryl on the gums (our dr recommended it) we just rubbed some of the liquid on the gums and it helped better than orajel and lasted longer than tylenol.

Im just not sure if you can use this for a small child like yours.

Good luck
Reply:How about pain medication? Try infant Tylenol or Motrin or Advil... why suffer.

It is very common for babies at her age to start teething. My daughter started at 3 months and didn't get her first tooth until 6 months.... she has been teething constantly since... she is now 20 months old.
Reply:Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets... they dissolve instantly on the tongue, work almost immediately, are recommended by most pediatricians and are life-savers! Good luck... :)
Reply:In the States, you cannot give a baby Children's Motrin until they are 6 months of age or older. Their liver is not able to break it down until that time.

You can give infant Tylenol though.

I freeze the whole washcloth in a freezer bag folded, and then give it to our babies. It works well. That little bit of water is not going to hurt them.

I never used Oragel at all...don't trust the stuff.

Good luck!
