Teething hell with 10-month-old--DOES IT EVER END??

Our baby must have a low pain tolerance, because she's absolutely miserable while teething. She has four teeth in and is getting two more right now. We've tried everything to help, but she stays cranky, feverish, fussy, not eating, and not sleeping while teething.

Here's what we've tried: Frozen washcloths, teething rings of every type -- cold and not cold, Tylenol, ibuprofen, teething tablets, frozen bagels, large frozen pretzels, Orajel for babies.

Short of getting prescription pain medicine, what can we do? How long will she be going through this? Doesn't it get easier with each tooth? Why is it not for her?

Teething hell with 10-month-old--DOES IT EVER END??
i never gave medication to my eldest who happened to be so fussy too when she was a baby. at 5 months old she has 2 teeth sprouting together simultenously and she would cry, be awake all night and just be so active... in the end, i had to be awake, play with her and applied all those you have tried.

(effect: when she grew up, she has more patience on tolerance on pain especially when she was involved in rigid training gymnastics artistics.)

my motherly advice to you..

be patient.. this phase will pass.. shower her more with tender loving care... music helps.

and i tell you, you have done all the best possible way to ease her pain on teething but this is just life, isn't it?
Reply:see the doc. i know it does suck. orajel worked for my baby. take care and good luck. give your baby a kiss.
Reply:Since none of those home remedies as well as OTC meds are working, you really need to get her to your Pediatrician and let him or her figure out what's wrong.

Some babies just don't take too well to teething, but they still sleep and eat some.

You need to make sure there is nothing else wrong with your child.
Reply:of course it will end.... do not worry to much you too have teething experience ask your mom whats she does... Mom knows best remember that saying.
Reply:It does not get easier with each tooth...wait until the molars start cutting...that's worse, in my experience.

My 14 month old started cutting his first teeth at 6 mos, took a bit of a break for a while, then got hot and heavy with it again around 10 mos. We had a bit of a reprieve for a few weeks, and now he's been cutting his molars for the past six weeks. He's only just starting to get back into sleeping through the night again.

Sounds like he's got a similar pain threshold as your daughter when it comes to teeth. He was less bothered when he broke his arm climbing (and then falling, the daredevil) out of his crib 3 days after his first birthday than he is by his teeth.

You're doing everything right. Just keep it up, she'll cut them soon enough, and then this will be behind you.
Reply:Oh poor thing! Must be a pain for all of you.

Massaging the gums help.

With a bit of olive oil.

Also there is a Homeopathic/ Biochemic medicine.

A combination. I did hear someone was told by her Doc. So do check it out.

It was years ago that I used it. Helped a lot.

Also banana helps.
Reply:It doesn't get easier with each tooth, sadly. Each tooth hurts just as much coming through.

Honestly it didn't get a heck of a lot better for us until his first 4 molars came through.

Essential clove oil diluted in olive oil is a decent remedy. Test the dilution in your own mouth as too much clove oil can burn. Clove oil is commonly used in OTC temporary fillings.
Reply:You sound like a great mum, you tryeverything don't you. We used bon jella also freezing pieces of fruit for her to suck on. Also rub her comes aswell. Like when you have a cut and it is healing it gets itchy. I found that our daughter seemed relieved when we rubbed them. Good luck I'm sure that the severity will calm down soon
Reply:I feel for you. I pray it gets better soon. My answer is no it won't last forever. Are they the front teeth or the molars. What I did was wash my hands real good then use my index finger to rub my sons gums while rocking him and humming. Sometimes teething doesn't just affect the gums but causes ear pain. An old wives remedy...dip your clean finger in brandy and rub lightly on the gums. Good luck to you and yours.
Reply:Maybe your little girl is getting radiating pain through her jaw and ears? It can happen and it makes them even more miserable. You can give your baby paracetamol and ibuprofen at the same time because they are different drugs and sometime when given together they give a better coverage. I do it with my son who is also 10 months and he is soooo cranky and awful, usually he is so happy and playful, but now he is not my usual little guy :(

You can also get teething salts from the chemist and I know a few mothers who swear by them and that is all they use. Don't know all kids are different and that is what makes it so hard I guess, no one remedy for all, lol

Good luck, I'm there with ya sister walking the floor boards at night and getting no sleep, lol. I honestly got more sleep when my boy was a newborn than I do now, lol
Reply:I would suggest trying to stay calm while your daughter fusses. She's picking up on the stress that you feel when she is upset and in pain. That just creates a cycle in which your daughter will just continue to be more and more anxious -- and you, too. Switching from one type of pain control to another can cause anxiety for your baby. They respond best to routine and being able to count on things being the same. The more you can make routine, the easier it will be to care for your baby.

My children had pain when teething. My son was worse off than my daughter. I think it was because he was my first and I had an anxiety disorder of which I was unaware. I tried many methods, too. Our son's doctor gave him paregoric (which you can't get any more because it was taken off the market). I was supposed to get some on my fingertip and rub it onto his gums.

You're really doing all you can. If the teething upset doesn't diminish even though you are remaining calm and only using one method consistently to ease the pain (I used dye-free ibuprofen -- you can rub some one her gums right before you give her the measured dose -- and frozen washcloths), talk to your baby's doctor. Or the doctor's nurse. They can offer you further advice on what you can do to ease your daughter's pain.

Good luck!
Reply:Well here are a couple more things you could try. I always gave my teething niece those pedialite pop-sicles, or the normal ones, she loved them, the cold eased the pain and kept her hydrated since she wasn't eating much. Another this is they make these little mesh bags for babies who are teething that you can put frozen fruit, etc. in for them to chew on, I always see them at target. Good Luck.

Teething and Diarrhea?

My 10 1/2 month old daughter is teething. For the past few days, she's been very fussy and not taking her bottle unless I give her teething tablets or orajel. She seems to be getting three teeth in all at once. She's already got two teeth.

However, since Saturday night, she's had explosive diarrhea. Her wet diapers have become minimal, and she's not taking much formula (she was getting table food, but we stopped it for now, seeing as the formula is more important) even after she's had teething tablets or orajel. She doesn't have a fever. Is this normal during the teething process?

She didn't have any diarrhea the last time. Thanks!

Teething and Diarrhea?
My daughters have had loose stools when teething but not explosive diarrhea. Teething can cause a wide variety of symptoms but if this diarrhea persists I would recommend a trip to the doctors as you do not want your daughter to dehydrate. If she does start to eat, try some grated apple as this contains pectin which firms up the poop! Good luck.
Reply:the two combined are just phenomenal. have your baby teeth on its warm poop
Reply:This is a debatable topic, you're going to get mixed answers.

I can only answer for myself. EVERY SINGLE TIME my son (now 3) cut a tooth..... he had diarrhea and a low grade fever.
Reply:My baby had diarrhea while teething too.
Reply:Diarrhea can be normal because the excessive drool actually upsets the stomach.

However if she isn't peeing enough, or her pee is dark or smelly you should take her to a doctor. I would also take her in if she takes less than 20oz of liquid in a day.
Reply:Diarrhea can happen with teething but what would concern me would be the lack of wet diapers. Watch out for dehydration. Call your doc if it continues. Good luck and remember this too shall pass.

Teething symptoms, no sign of change in gums-is he really teething?

My 4 1/2 month old son has been showing the signs of teething for a few weeks now...he is drooling like crazy, gives into fits of screaming while shoving his whole fist in his mouth. I am worried about giving him Orajel if he is not teething, can it hurt him if he isn't teething and I put some on? I usually end up putting on once a day because I get desperate-he only shows these signs in spurts, not consistantly. Any ideas?

Teething symptoms, no sign of change in gums-is he really teething?
my babies started showing all those signs of teething at the same age. But none off them got any teeth for like 2 months after that. If the orajel seems to help him though, why not? It wont hurt him any if you use it occassionally
Reply:if he starts chewing on things, probably so. the teeth might come much l8r. dont worry.vote this answer as best plz
Reply:orajel wont hurt him in moderation obviously his mouth is hurting if pain persists see your doctor
Reply:yes those are the beginning signs of teething, it can take weeks for that first tooth to actually start coming through. there are several things you can try. frozen bananas, ice cubes, they have this teething net that you put frozen fruit and stuff into that they can suck and chew on without any risk of choking. you can also try small amount of Tylenol, although i would consult the nurse at your ped. office first. You can also try gently pushing on his gums with a clean finger, it relieves the pain. other than that, keep them happy and comfortable, teething isn't fun.
Reply:It certainly sounds like he is teething. This can go on for a couple of months before there is any visible sign of a tooth though! Orajel or any other teething gel should be ok to use a few times a day if he gets too uncomfortable. Have you tried using one of those gel teething rings that can be put in the fridge to chill? They're a good alternative and gives him something to chomp on too. Don't use once the tooth is through though as it could pierce it.
Reply:He can teeth for long periods of time. a couple of my children showed teething signs for a few months before they ever got any teeth at all. Orajel should be ok as long as you are sure he IS teething. there's nothing you can really do for them except keep them as content as possible during this time with things like teething rings, gum numbers like orajel, humphries, pain relievers (when needed) etc. good luck mommy! It'll all be over soon enough.
Reply:yes thats it it sometimes takes awhile for them to pop out though ora-jel is fine it will not hurt at all whatever helps also get the teething rings that you stick in the fridge or freezer they also seem to help
Reply:He is definately teething, you may not see the teeth for awhile but it is definately happening. What is hurting him is the teeth pushing to the surface of the gum. Orajel will not hurt him even if you give it to him every couple hours, no worries. Please use it for your sanity and so he isn't in pain all day. A chew toy also helps get those teeth to the surface faster and feels good to him.
Reply:Believe me you can literally wake up one day and there will be a tooth! It's Summer time, do not be afraid to give him a freeze pop or Popsicle to soothe his gums, a cool damp wash cloth (in the freezer about 10-15min) works wonders too.

Good Luck!
Reply:it is the teeth moving down and causing the gums to itch just because there is nothing happening doesn't mean he is not teething..
Reply:first notice if maybe he is doing it more so 20-30 minutes after eatting. my daughter has some of those same symptoms but hers is actually from acid reflux. teething generally comes w/ fevers, is he running a fever? orajel shouldnt hurt him if hes not teething but ya never want to have to give meds if you dont have to. but look into the acid reflux and pay attention after he eats to make sure thats not the case. good luck!
Reply:I was told by my pediatrician to be very careful when giving her orajel b/c it can numb her throat and she could choke.....you know your baby best tho to how she handles it. Just be careful lying her down right after giving her some.

She started teething around 4months and her first tooth popped through at exaclty 6mths old.

When my daughter was teething her were things that helped soothe her:

(attended of course).

Cold wet wash cloth to chew on. (She would chew/suck on this for hours out of the day)

Baby einstein catapillar teething ring (they were the best in my opinion).

Sugar Free Popsicle's when she was really in pain.

Bitter Biscuts by Gerber.

Zwieback Toast (baby food isle).

Those link-rings.

Frozen Waffles.

Frozen french fries.

men hiking shoes

Teething questions? Frozen cloths for teething?

My daughter is teething and unfortunately she is only 14wks old... so she can't hold anything herself so I have to do things for her. All the teething toys are too big for her mouth even if I can hold them there for her. I let her chew my finger, or on a newborn "soothie", a gum brush we got in a first aid kit, and a finger gum brush that's softer than the other on (but it's still big in her mouth becuase she is young and just because she is a baby with a small mouth). So are there any other ideas? Maybe non-conventional ideas?

I also freeze the corners of a washcloth and let her gnaw on those, but my question is: Did your baby just kind of suck the water out??? I'm sure the cold feels good, but I think she thinks the water is a treat or food too...??? And she seems to need them all the time. Can the tooth be coming soon? She's been showing signs of teething for 3-4 wks. Is this too much water for her? There really isn't much on there but I guess it might add up..........

Teething questions? Frozen cloths for teething?
We had the same problem with our daughter. She started teething around 3 months old. Two teeth popped out when she was 4.5 months old. Most of the teething toys we found were way too big for her mouth and she wanted us to hold them for her the whole time! The frozen face cloth corners got us through it all! I don't think she got too much water, she is breast fed too and she still gained weight during that time period. She is now 9 months and getting her 5th and 6th tooth in and we still use the frozen face cloths for her, she seems to like them the best!
Reply:When I was younger, my parents gave me a big pickle to suck on. They are quite healthy, but make sure she has water with it. Teething too much can make them chew on things to much in the future. My brother is 10 and chews on paper, his fingers, wires, necklaces, and anything he can get, he even sucks on the remote. I don't think it is too much water. I think she is building a habit before she can even talk. You should give her something big, foodwise.
Reply:Hmmmm interesting first answerer! It was my first laugh of the day.

Regarding the teething, its fine to let her suck on the cloth if it helps to soothe her. My two babies didn't teeth that early, so I really do sympathize because its a young age. Do what you can to soothe her gums. Have you tried using teething tablets or little teethers gel? This helps a great deal when the teething starts getting really bad (usually when she just fusses and fusses). As for the pickle, its a great idea but the salt content could be dangerous and just isnt a good idea.

I am not sure if you have seen one but at WalMart and Target they have these teething toys that vibrate when they bite down on it with their gums. Supposedly its supposed to massage them but I never tried it. Have you tried pedialite popsicles? Those are good and also encourage hydration. It may help numb it a bit and calm her down.

I really wouldn't worry about the water part too much that is ok. But I would definitely start using teething tablet once a day if she is demanding for her gums to be rubbed continuously. Usually you can feel a bump or swollen spot where her teeth are trying to come in. Use a small flashlight and look in there to see or check her under a brightly lit lamp.

I have heard of babies that had crowded teeth that were causing a great deal of pain or develop infections, so just keep an eye on the gums and be sure that they don't look red or overly swollen. In that case a doctor should check it out.

Baby teething?

I have a two and a half month old who looks as if she is teething - she has all the tell-tale signs of teething.

What can i do to ease her pain? I can't use the teething gel as it is not for babies under three months. I've got some teething rings but they seem too big for her (and i got the smallest size in the store). I've given her panadol but it hasn't really helped.

Any suggestions? And does anyone know of really small teething rings?

Thank you

Baby teething?
The best thing at this age (or any age) is placing a damp clean wash cloth into a zip-lock baggy and popping it into the freezer for a few minutes. Allow her to suck and gnaw on the cloth while you hold the end of it so she doesn’t put it too far into her little mouth. You can use this all day, as many times as you like and you don’t have too worry about unwanted medicine in her body.

Watch that she doesn’t get a high fever that wont go down, because she may need to see a doctor for illness not teething (or both). Just watch closely, but it isn’t much to worry about, babies temperatures fluctuate more than adults and babies are over medicated for fevers when their bodies are just naturally dealing with something.

You can also try rubbing her little gums with your clean finger, or just applying pressure where you think her tooth might be coming through (or push up slowly), most likely the front bottom.

When she is really fussy try holding her as often as you can and moving around, this usually helps the little one ‘forget’ that they are in pain and allows them to think about something else, go for a walk in the neighbourhood. Wearing her in a sling while also help because of the close comfort to you, and if you are breastfeeding this can offer her even more comfort when she needs it most. Some babies will feed all day when teething, and some stop all together!

Try your best to soothe her without meds, rocking, singing, dancing, music, cold cloths, rubbing and pressure, lavender baths at night, lavender body rubs (olive oil mixed with a few drops of essential lavender oil), all these will help her relax, calm and hopefully sleep!

Good luck with your early teething little one.
Reply:Ice cubes worked for my daughter
Reply:I used Bonjela for both my kids, it says from 4 months but I used it both times from around the same age. Or see the chemist about it.

Reply:There are teething rings with saline / water in them. They have a very small toy floating inside of each bubble. I used to have two or three and put them in the fridge. They don't freeze. Just the coolness is soothing.

By the way, people especially babies don't operate by books. your baby could teeth way sooner than the book says. Also, might be that your baby just didn't like that tething ring. They like fingers too!!!!! I'm sure that you have found that out.

Keep the variety of rings, but make sure to get the saline ones, they are smushy and babies love them. The ones you bought, babies just love to throw them. They make noise when they hit the floor and make the parents go crazy. That cracks babies up.

Num-Zit teething gel. Your baby is 2 1/2 months, very close to three,,,,,,right.

U see the directions and reccommendations are alll estimations. Because they don't personally know your baby, so they can't know when they are teething or sitting up, or biting your finger. Right??????????
Reply:You can give her Tylenol or ibuprofen. Just call your pediatrician or pharmacist and ask how much you can give her.

And to the first guy who responded to this question...You are very sick and immature. There are respectful people and kids who come on this site. Do yourself a favor and grow up.
Reply:I hope shes not teething this early (she could be starting but I doubt a tooth will come through this early so the poor wee mite could just have pain with no tooth coming through for a while)

The only thing she really can have at this stage is liquid baby paracetamol.

I hope she feels better soon...
Reply:DESPITE THE PREJUDICE AGAINST IT, THE USE OF WHISKEY (OR OTHER ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES) RUBBED ON THE GUMS IS A TRADITIONAL REMEDY THAT WORKS WELL.
Reply:use those cooling teether, they just go in refrigerator and they get cool, then u give it to the baby......
Reply:if your in australia rub some vegemite on her gums. its reall good.

my daughter was the same she was an very early teether.

let he scuk on a cold face washer or the corner of a towel in cold water.
Reply:I'm glad you asked this question. My daughter is the same age and going throught the same thing. I kept thinking to myself that she's too young to start teething right now, but she's acting like she is. I've tried giving her teethers too and she doesnt seem to like them. Hopefully by reading other people's answer's to your question I'll find help too. Good luck!
Reply:a dark whiskey on your finger and rub it on her gums(not a lot) what my parents did to me they said i was fine

Hmm.. teething?

My 6 month old got his first tooth august 13th, and his second 10 days later.. He's never been a good sleeper, but for the past 3 weeks he would make it untill 5am with no problem, now all of a sudden he's waking up every couple of hrs.. I don't offer the bottle, i just give him a passy, or pick him up if he wants to. it doesn't take him long to go back to sleep.. he's been doing this for the past 3 nights..

i wonder if this is a sign of his top teething coming through? we also started feeding him dinner of veggie and evening cereal, but as i can recall, he slept fine after it.. I wonder which one is bothering him?

for teething, i do give him orajel, tylenol, teething tablets ( not all at once of course ) But thats only temporary relief.. so during the day i just give him a cold teething ring..

So does this sound like teething pain? Is it about the time his next set of his pearly whites?

Hmm.. teething?
If you are in the USA Walmart carries teething tablets ( in the baby dept ) they are the most wonderful thing I have ever seen, my Grandson has 10 teeth now and never a problem, every parent needs to try these, by the way they were recommended by her pediatrician.
Reply:Yeah, it sounds like teething to me.
Reply:If he begans to get fevers maybe he's teething. A home remedy is to place a egg in a sock and hang it over his room door.
Reply:Well it could be alot of things. But it also could be the age. All of my friends and I have noticed around 6 months of age, even if the kiddos werent teething yet, they start switching up their sleeping schedule. And they actually do sometimes get hungry during the night, so if he ever does wake up and you can't get him soothed with just a paci, I would give him a bottle.

Teething at 13 weeks?!?

My 13 week old baby son is very upset tonight - he's very distressed, constantly dribbling, rubbing at his mouth and putting his hands in his mouth, and crying inconsolably! His cheeks are red and rosy and so are his lips.

He was like this a few days ago and I told my Health Visitor but she said that he couldn't be teething yet and it was just his mouth getting ready for when he starts solids.

But I feel he is teething - his gums look swollen and I have read this is a sign of teething.

I've given him a dose of Calpol as I can't bear to see him so upset, and he's gone to sleep now. Should I call the doctor? I'm a first time mum so not sure what to do. I didn't think babies started teething this early?

I have some teething gel which my other half bought a few days ago - should I try that? I just don't know what to do and its horrible to see my baby in such distress, its breaking my heart!

Teething at 13 weeks?!?
this sounds just like teething..i suggest you ignore your health visitor as this time mum knows best! my son had his 1st 2 teeth come through when he just turned 4 months. was chewing his hands and dribbling at 3 months too.your son might not get any teeth for another year,bt show signs until then. babies teeth come thru at different times.i know someone who was born with 4 teeth!!!!!! my son had a full set at 15 months but my friends baby has only got 4 at 17months.

there is not alot you can do for teething, the only thing that will cure it is when the tooth breaks thru. you can only really try to comfort your son by giving him calpol, teething powders, cold things to chew on etc..which is more or less what you have been doing.

speak to your dr if you want but i dont think there is anything else they can offer you unfortunately...

goodluck to you i know how horrible it is when your baby is in pain, you sound like a good mummy and i'm sure your son will feel better knowing he has you looking after him and giving him cuddles when he feels unhappy x
Reply:my friends daughter has started with this recently and she the same age, teething gels usually say from 4 months up, check with the health visitor first, try putting his dummy in cold sterile water so it is cooler on his gums!!!
Reply:I would recommend taking him to the doctor to rule out anything else.

If he is teething give him something cold to chew on, such as a teething ring from the fridge. Some people suggest wetting a baby washcloth with cold water and allowing the baby to chew on this.

Teething gel can be helpful, but it lasts 20 minutes and can only be given every 6 hours. Because it can impair the gag reflex and impair swallowing, you need to wait 1 hour after applying to feed your son.

Tylenol is helpful. You can buy infants tylenol over the counter. Look for a bottle with weight-based dosing, not age-based because weight-based is more accurate.
Reply:My second son started early. I don't think teething gel will hurt and of course baby tylenol. I'd try a cold teething ring and call the doctor.
Reply:i suggest that you should call your doctor i have not personally ever heard of a baby teething this early i am not saying that it don't happen though all children are different but he could be having some kind of allergic reaction to something give him infants Tylenol check and see if he has a fever i know where i live our pediatric have an after hours line so maybe you could call and speak with a nurse and if you cant call the hospital and ask to speak to the maternity ward then ask to speak to a nurse they should be able to help good luck !!
Reply:He may well be teething, some babies can be born with teeth.
Reply:He could definitely be teething. My daughter got her first 2 teeth at the same time when she was four months old. I used a frozen washcloth for her. Another thing that I did was freeze a couple of baby spoons for her to gum. Other than that, I gave her infant Tylenol for the pain.
Reply:If it helps and maybe not I brought my chiuldren up myself from age 0 and they can teeth anytime from 12 weeks to 12 months believe me and you are always told different by midwifes etc but my daughter was walking at 20 months and hads all her teeth so whats up with life just do as you think mrught you are the mother you know instinctively Gooid Luck By the way I am male
Reply:Yes your baby could easily be teething, teething is a process, the teeth have to get pushed up to the gums, and then they have to push through the gums. Not all children are the same, some children are even born with teeth. I remember that first mom feeling. Walgreen's or a pharmacy sell these homeopathic teething tablets, they are amazing and your little one could take them with out you worrying about it affecting him. They are called Hylands homeopathic Teething Tablets. They work really good. No need to call the dr. unless you think it's something more serious. If he stops eating and drinking, or gets a high fever. Things like that. But you can give him these tablets worry free. I used it on both of my children; my 15mo is getting big teeth in so it doesn't get any easier. Hope this passes fast.
Reply:tell ur health visitor to shut the **** up they chat so much ****. get ur baby some anbesol from boots chemist. my health visitor told me not to give my baby water an lots of other crap

they think they know it all

theres also teething biscuits in asda called bickipegs for £1.50
Reply:yes it can happen anytime 2 of mine were born with teeth

just keep give calpol every 3 hourly %26amp; something like a teethin ring for him to chew on you can get 1's that go in the fridge they are very soothing for them
Reply:of course your baby is teething . anyway try an homeopathic remedy as carpol is really no good.contact ainsworth homeopathic pharmacy in london, they give great advise over the phone and ask them for the soft tablet when taking remedies. they will post them to you. homeopathic medicine is great for babies because it works. your baby is a bit young for bicky-pegs or rings so try rubbing his gum gently with your little finger just untill you get the remedy .
Reply:Believe it or not but babies have been known to be born with teeth. I know being a 1st time mum can be really scary and in my experience most health visitors go by a book there is only one hv i know that actually as children. When it comes to your kids if something doesn't feel right then i suggest always go to your doctors even if its just to ease your mind. They wont call you for it you wont be the 1st to go when it might be nothing and you will probably find they are really sympathetic that's what they are there for to make you better and ease your mind. try a teething ring place it in the freezer and let your baby chew or suck on it the cooling will help numb their gums and ease the pain
Reply:If you in the Uk try parsons teething powders. Homeopathic plant remedy, worked a treat for my youngest who seemed to have desperate trouble getting her teeth through.

Poor little mite.
Reply:for your health vistior to say he cant be teething is so wrong. my son started at 3 months and had 2 teeth befoer he turned 4 months. also my brother was born with a tooth. it is odd that this happens but it does.
Reply:My First kid got two teeth at 4 mos. then from there she didn't get any till well after her first birthday! So every kid can be different! It really helps if you can get her teething tablet!!! you can find them at any store. And the best thing of all they are all natural and instant relief! I also use Tylenol at night to help her sleep!
Reply:I think your health visitor should check her stuff! babies can be born with teeth! so yes your son is more than likely teething! if it will put ur mind at rest take him to the doctors.

I looked after a baby that was born with about 4 teeth not so long ago thing was her mum was trying to breastfeed! ouch!

dont worry he will be fine!
Reply:My son got his first two teeth in at 3 months. So I'd say it is possible for him to he teething.
Reply:My son did the same thing starting at 3 months. It would last a couple days then stop. And that continued off and on since then. He is 7 months old now and is finally cutting a tooth, the top left canine. It was hard to see him be so uncomfortable but as he got older he got used to it and didnt get so distressed. You can try putting your finger on ice for a minute then massaging his gums, my son enjoyed this.
Reply:What are the symptoms of teething?

While some children seem to sprout their first teeth with no problems at all, for others it is a painful and drawn out process. Red and swollen gums, heavy drooling, sleepless nights, inconsistent feeding, biting and general crankiness can all be signs that your baby's first tooth is on its way and for these babies, and their parents, teething is no fun. Some parents report that their baby develops a temperature or diarrhoea immediately prior to a tooth breaking through but most experts do not believe that teething causes these conditions, so treat them separately and always consult a doctor if necessary. You may, however, find that your baby gets a red rash on her chin and lower lip from all the dribbling. Gently wipe the dribble off with a soft cotton cloth, making sure that you don't rub. Smoothing a barrier cream such as petroleum jelly on her chin at bedtime and before she goes out will help to protect her skin from further irritation.

Why does teething hurt?

Your baby's teeth started developing in the womb, when teeth buds were formed in her gums. As her teeth develop, they push up through her gums, a process which can cause irritation, pain and swelling. (You may remember the ache your wisdom teeth created when they arrived, which will give you an idea of what your toddler is going through). While pressure seems to relieve the pain (see below) sucking causes more blood to rush to the swollen areas, making them particularly sensitive. This is why some babies may temporarily reject the breast or bottle when they are teething.

What are the best ways to soothe painful gums?

Some parents find that simply rubbing a finger over sore gums can numb the pain temporarily. Giving your baby something to bite on will have a similar effect, relieving the pressure and thereby easing the pain. The chances are that your baby will find things to chew on herself but she might find hard, unsweetened rusks, teething rings or a peeled raw carrot helpful, (though don't use carrots once she has her first tooth, as she may bite off lumps that she can then choke on). Anything cold will be particularly soothing so keep rubber teethers in the fridge or give your baby a partly-frozen wet flannel to gnaw on. Chilled water in a bottle or, if she prefers, a feeding cup may help to calm her gums and if she is old enough for solid foods, offer her cold apple puree or plain yoghurt. There will be times, however, when your baby will reject all of these offerings and, at these moments, a cuddle is the best therapy you can supply.

Should I use teething gels or homeopathic remedies?

A little teething gel rubbed onto the sore gum with a clean finger has a numbing effect that lasts for about 20 minutes. However, you should not use teething gels more than six times a day and, if you are breast-feeding, you should avoid using them immediately before a feed as they can numb your baby's tongue making it hard for her to suck successfully. They might also numb your areola (the dark skin around your nipple) making feeding difficult for both of you. Many mothers swear by homeopathic granules (available from chemists). These come in small sachets that you pour into baby's mouth. Check that the brand you are buying is sugar-free. Sugar is a prime cause of tooth decay so you don't want to be filling your baby's mouth with it at regular intervals, particularly if this is not her first tooth.

Can I give my baby infant paracetamol?

Babies under three months old should not be given infant paracetamol without first talking to your doctor. Fortunately, most babies have reached this age before they get the first symptoms of teething so if all else fails, and your baby is in real distress, the correct dose can be given. However, you should first make sure that there isn't something else causing your baby to be upset. Ear infections are often mistaken for teething and will need medical attention. Also, if he has a temperature, or is inconsolable, you should certainly consult your doctor.

How long will teething last?

Just as there is no set date at which your baby's first tooth will arrive, so the time it takes to make its journey through that little gum is different for every child. Some will be troubled for just a few days before a tooth emerges, while other babies will display all the symptoms of teething for months with nothing to show for it at all. The good news is that, for most babies, the first few teeth are the worst. Problems associated with teething tend to subside, certainly until the molars, the large teeth at the back of the mouth, start to come through and that is unlikely to happen until after your baby's first birthday, giving you and your baby time to recover from this difficult and, for some, stressful stage.

Some babies are born with one or more teeth (called natal teeth) or may have teeth emerge within the first 30 days of life (called neonatal teeth).
Reply:go top docs as soon as poss and voice your concerns,in the mean time yes use teething gel and see what happens. It is poss that your baby could be teething as al babys are different. Did you know that it has been known for babys to be born with teethe apparently.

I never heard of the diagnosis that your health visitor gave you. Sounds really strange and im going to ask my health visitor if thats a true diagnosis.Anyway your his mum and you know best so listen to your own instincts.

(use teething rings.)
Reply:I cannot beleive a health visitor would say its just his mouth getting ready for solids?? WTF does that mean? Honestly, some of them are usless.

Its does sound like teething and it isn't to early. Some babies are born with teeth already through!! Calpol and teething gel are a good start. Parsons Teething powders are amazing things - ask your pharmacist for them.

Don't fret to much, its tough seeing them like that but all you can do is reassure them with cuddles.

Reply:My little boy was just like this he has just turned 1 and has ALL his teeth (yes he does look a bit freaky!!!) But beware ear infections can sometimes have the same symptons as teething and you do need to see GP for that so I would suggest going there anyway. Better safe than sorry
