Teething Question?

My son is almost 8 months old, and still has no teeth. I'm not concerned about that, he just seems to be having a very hard time with it. When he was 6 weeks old, the doctor confirmed he was teething because we could both see his bottom teeth coming through. Now, he still has none. I can feel lots of bumps in his mouth, and he gets cranky, but then like a few hours later, they're gone and he's fine. This has been going on for a few months now off and on. He has no other symptoms such as excessive drooling, or fever. I'm just wondering if maybe there is anything to be concerned with since it's been going on for so long and they haven't broke through yet. Last night and the night before he woke up screaming from what I assume was teething pain, but with no other symptoms it's hard to be sure. I don't want to give him tylenol unless he really needs it, but it did seem to work in the case last night..any tips?

Teething Question?
Both of my kids were 11 months before they got their first teeth, and they both did the same thing yours is doing. It is like those teeth would play hide and go seek!! The first ones are always the hardest. After my son got his first 2, I never knew when he was teething on the others! They sell teething tablets that are WONDERFUL. They are all natural and you just rub them on their gums. I forget the name, but you can find them anywhere in the baby isle.
Reply:Hun teething is awful and my Mum is a dentist and she said that it is quite common for them to cause a lot of discomfort before they make an appearance. There is nothing to worry about, the teeth will just come when they are ready.
Reply:Sometimes it takes a few months for teh first ones. : Poor little baby! My first born was walkign before she actually had teeth even though I swear she teethed from the day she was born. My second baby started at a few weeks and finally cut one at about your sons age. My third started teething at about the same age your baby did but she's only 11 weeks now, so it will be a while. She is drooling EVERYwhere already.
Reply:try some ora- gel to see if it helps relieve the pain. it can take forever or they just suddenly pop through. my doctor also suggested to let her chew on a wet washcloth (not freexing but cool), or you could buy one of those teething things you put in the fridge. she loves it even when its not cold. with my baby's first two teeth she was cranky, drooling, pooping, and had a runny nose. she just popped another one and i had NO idea. she had no symptoms at all this time. good luck!
Reply:It can range from a few days to a few months of pain before a baby's teeth pop through! I usually use the infant tylenol for the pain, and also baby orajel. We also keep teethers in just about every room in the house, and one in the car (my son is having a miserable time with his teething). Some people also give baby a cold washcloth to chew on :)
Reply:At most drug stores and grocery stores you can buy homiopathic teething tablets. They are safe it sounds like they will probably break through real soon. I have a 13 month old who only has 4 teeth and he was around 8 months old when they came through.

Teething and Runny nose ?

I'm confused, some things I've read say a runny nose is not a sign of teething and other's say it is. My son who has no teeth *yet* has a clear runny nose and was wondering if a cool mister (humidifier) would help him. Has no other cold like symptoms, so if it's a sign of teething should I bother ?

Teething and Runny nose ?
For some children a runny nose is a sign of teething. Since his nose is running clear it is not an infection and is probably due to teeth. Don't bother with the humidifier it wont do any good
Reply:i would call his doc
Reply:yes it is from theething teething can make them have fever, clear runny nose or ear aches. As long as the snot isn't green your okay

Here is an article on teething
Reply:Colds and teething seem to come together all the time. I wouldnt worry about it. Keep his nose clean, use your aspirator to clear it, and keep him hydrated.

Ive heard both sides of this debate, but most teething infants i see are coupled with a runny nose :)
Reply:A humidifier is usually for a stuffed up nose. There is always debate over things being caused by teething, but my daughter has had them. Like runny nose, very slight fever, or diarrhea. As long as it's only a runny nose, just take care of it and let it run it's course. There's not much else you can do or need to do, whether it's because of teething or not.
Reply:Teething does not cause a baby to have a runny nose, but the crying because of the pain and discomfort will cause the nose to run. Just like adults, when we cry, our nose runs...
Reply:Every parent I know will say a runny nose goes with teething. But for some reason doctors don't seem to agree. My son is working on his 8th tooth and he always gets a runny nose when cutting a tooth and as soon as it comes through the runny nose is gone! So my opinion it's probably teeth if he is fine in every other way!!!
Reply:I ran into the same thing with my 2 when they were little. I finally found one pediatrician that said it was called a teething cold. As long as the mucas is clear there is no poblem. Humidifiers will not assist if that is the case. Good luck!
Reply:Found a few places you can go to find out about symptoms of teething and much more. Good Luck! :)

(Some of the sites may ask you to register free to obtain the information you need. Hope these help you!)
Reply:trust your instincts/ if the baby is unusually crabby/not him/herself- it could very well be start of teething. If baby wants to chew or gnaw on items such as bottle nipple/or pacifier- and drooling a lot- it could be teeth/ but best of all/just call the docter if your very unsure/there are no dumb questions when it comes to baby!!! don't buy into the "parking lot"doctors!!the know-it-alls/know better than the doctor-leaves the doctors office and sits outside and tells you everything wrong about the doctors diagnosis. they are the "parking lot doctors!!"
Reply:When both of my boys got their top teeth (all of them, not just the center two) they had clear runny noses. Their sinuses are right there, and teething can affect them. As long as she's acting normally, not overly fussy/tired, no vomiting, diarrhea, fever, eating well, etc., she's probably fine.

A cool mist humidifier never hurt anyone as far as I know. Especially now that fall is here and the air is getting cooler and drier, it wouldn't hurt to put one in her room. A good friend of mine has one in her son's room and leaves it running year round. If you have central a/c and heat, it's very dry air, and having a humidifier on would help dry nasal passages, stuffy noses, etc.
Reply:Teething not only for the baby, but almost worst for the parents is plain, straight out HELL! There is no other way to describe it. Firs off they a re acting weird, they cant tell you if they have a tooth coming in or have the flu, they cant tell you what hurts and what doesn't, and YOU don't know if they are really sick or just teething. All the symptoms are the same. Its sooo irritating! My daughter is going through that right now (i think/hope). She has always slept through the night, the first time she got a tooth, the whole week BEFORE (before the teeth mind you) she was up every two hours all night long, she got a super runny nose that then turned so stuffy she couldn't breath, she got the diarehha. It was miserable. The only thing that kind of worked for me was totally doping her up, I gave her tylenol and orajel. it seemed to take the edge off a little bit. But I really dont think a humidifier is necessary. You just have to wait it out. Sorry, But Good Luck!
Reply:Hey Hone

A cool mist humidifier probably would help, so why not? Yes I have heard that it can be a sign of teething.

However, if you have allergies, he might have them too! Generally, if he experiences the same symptoms you do when around the same things that trigger you allergies . . . it's safe to say that he has allergies. Unfortunately, if it is allergies the doctor won't be able to give him anything until he is a year.

Maybe he's cold? Both of my son's have runny noses when they are cold.

Or it could be a cold? Not all colds have the whole list of symptoms and sometimes a runny nose means they are coming down with something. Sneezing and runny noses are out body's way of getting rid of germs and a normal part of allergies. Normally, our bodies do attempt to fight off a cold before we catch it.

But most likely, it sounds like it could be allergies.

Hope this helps!
Reply:Stop relying on what the "experts" say. Use your own judgment, if you rub his gums you might feel little bumps, which are teeth, so the runny nose could be from teething, the runny nose could also be a sign of allergies, a humidifier is a good idea whether he is teething or not. While I wouldn't take him to see the doctor there are "nurse hotlines" and possibly your doctor/clinic has one that you can call to find out if maybe it is an allergy if he's not teething.

Is it teething or is it the result of the vaccination?

We took my son to get a chicken pox vaccine (just one shot at a time) and he was fine heathly and happy, then that nighthe started a fever and the next morning it sounded like he had a sore throat, and he had a stuff nose too. We then noticed some of his back teeth are coming in and know that he always gets crazy fevers when hes teething, but were not sure if he contracted anything from the vaccine. is he contagious, is he sick or is he just teething? We moved here recently and we dont have a doctor yet so i cant just rush him in somewhere. Hes also been waking up screaming bloody murder, very restless at night, he flops around and does somersaults all over the place in his sleep. He wont eat for my husband, he will only eat if im holding him and his bottle. the other day he hardly ate anything, although he was showing interest in everything we ate. He would even try to bite things, cringe and make a funny face and spit it out. I think its his teething but if you have any ideas, thanks

Is it teething or is it the result of the vaccination?
Sounds like teething, but if you are really concerned, seeing as you dont have a doctor yet, take him to the ER.
Reply:i think he's teething. my 5 month old has 2 teeth and is working on his 3rd. i found these little things that are better than oragel and they make him fall asleep too! it's Hylands Homeopathic Teething Tablets. about $5 a bottle at wal mart or walgreens. they work great. mix with a tiny bit of juice and water. good luck!
Reply:It seems like he's teething but having had the shot has probably irritated him and made him more moody. My suggestion would be to give him tylenol every 4 hours during the day and motrin every 8 at night. If that helps then he's just teething.
Reply:It sounds like teething, I feel your pain my son is getting some new teeth in as well and Ive had several sleepless nights here lately. But the shots can also cause your little one to run a fever. When you put him to bed give him the right dosage of motrin and put some orajel on his teeth it doesnt last very long but maybe it will help him sleep better and you 2 :)
Reply:It could be teething, but natural teething should not cause fevers... that could be the result of on infection, virus, or some other sickness. Teething is just supposed to cause irritability. I would consult an MD. If u feel their answer is not good enough then try another MD.
Reply:That's a tough one. It could def. be teething. Or he could be teething AND getting a cold too (I'm thinking that cause of the runny nose and sore throat you mentioned). Obviously you'll take him to a doc as soon as you can find one but I would watch for signs of a developing cold or flu as well as teething symptoms. Good luck.

Teething question.?

I have a 3 month old who cut her first tooth two weeks ago. I can tell its really hurting her as shes constantly chewing on her fingers and her wraps. Does any one know what else i can do to help her.

(she cant keep hold of a teething ring and you cant give babies bonjella/teething gel till 4 months).

My oldest daughter didnt start to get her teeth till she was 6 months so i didnt have this problem first time round.

Teething question.?
Take a clean, soft washcloth and soak it in apple juice. Wring it out, tie the cloth in a knot, and place it in the freezer for 30 minutes (it will not freeze hard like water does, rather, it will get very cold and nearly frozen). When frozen, give it to your baby, placing it first in his mouth, then his hands. You will see almost immediate results. Your baby will love the apple juice and most doctors approve it for even very young infants. The combination of the cold and the texture of the washcloth will begin to ease your baby's pain right away.
Reply:try taking a cold washcloth and putting it in the freezer for a half hour and then letting her suck on that
Reply:Frozen Mini Bagels (do not defrost). They are big enough to where the baby won't choke (don't let them defrost all the way), but they are nice and numbing on the teeth and gums of teethers.
Reply:ask your health visitor about the bonjella. i gave it to my children at around 3 mths, on her advise.

if your daughter cant hold a ring, put a plastic spoon in the freezer for a few hrs, and give her that.
Reply:how about a cold pacifier? can you put it in the fridge for a while or even in the freezer for a while and then give it to her. the cold may be soothing and she can hopefully suck on it and keep it in her mouth and maybe even chew on it a little to ease the discomfort. Tylenol can help too but check with your doc first.
Reply:A bay can take benedryl get the capsules break one open and rub the powder on your babies gum and trust me it works. My mom did it to my sister and I, and I did it to my two kids and we are all fine it wont hurt them but it will make your baby go to sleep.Your baby probably need a nice rest after all the crying and pain.
Reply:You can try massaging her gums with your finger too. Also there's a homeopathic that's mild to use even on babies. It's called calc phos 30CH, and you just dissolve one pellet in some boiled bottled water. Let it cool off and give it to her with an eye dropper. Only give it to her when she seems to be in pain. Hold her lots and cuddle her, talk to her, these are all things that help with my baby.

Good luck!
Reply:Cold washer
Reply:when my son had such a problem i simply bought him a baby teether.whenever i could carry him and he starts to kind of want to bite my palms. Then i could give it to him.

But remember it should be kept clean coz it could cause intestinal problems if its not handed with care.
Reply:well when i was teething my mom put a egg in a jar and she said it helped my teeth come on and cut through the gum, it wont stop the pain but the teeth should cut through the gums a lot quicker
Reply:She's only a month off being the recommended age for bonjella so I'd give her that. My daughter started teething at around 3 months %26amp; I gave her bonjella %26amp; try some baby panadol as well.

Teething gel?

My 7 month old angel is teething and just got his first tooth this week. He is in obvious pain so i want to use the gel but need some advice; 1) do i put it all over the complete gums or just at the front where the teeth are coming through? 2) Ive tried to put it on and he just sucks on my finger! Doesnt swallowing it cause sickness or something?! 3) can i put the gel on one of his favourite teething toys, that way he will munch on the toy and get the gel where its needed? Please help!

Teething gel?
The Hyland brand teething tablets work on some babies, and then don't work for other. oragel swabs are great, just put it where ever you can get it really, most babies fight to get it away! Any amount you can get in there should help! Also try soaking a baby wash cloth in chamomille tea with splenda as a sweetener (splenda will not hurt baby, it's made from sugar and has no calories no aspertame and won't give him diareha in this very small amount). Wring it out so that he won't choke if he sucks on the wash cloth and make sure it's warm. He will love it and will be able to chew on the cloth. The chamomille helps with soothing and imflamation. You could also try putting just water on the wash cloth and freezing it. This is sometimes easier for them to hold and chew than a teether. Tylenol only for little Mr., motrin at his size is very hard on the tummy, kidneys and liver. Good luck!
Reply:Have you tried the orajel swabs? You just snap them so the medicine flows to the end of the q-tip, then you rub that on his gums. The amount used isn't harmful if he swallows a bit (since it's pre-measured in the swab). I always focused on the area where the tooth was coming in, then went out from there just in case the other gums hurt too. It's basically just a numbing gel, it doesn't last long but provides quick, temporary relief. I've had friends swear by an herbal quick dissolve tablet, but I've never tried that. I wouldn't put the gel on the teething toy, he may get too much.
Reply:You should apply it directly to his gums. Gently hold his mouth open and rub the gel into his gums as quickly as you can.

Orajel also has a q-tip applicator that works great.

My son hated the taste of the gel so he cried but once it was over he was happy.

I wouldn't put it on his toy. You risk giving him too much and having him swallow that majority of it.

This product works great for teething and is completely safe and natural:

Reply:Oral Jel...years ago people use to rub whiskey on the gums.

However you must be mindful of how much...wouldn't want to be turned in to child protection.
Reply:it is for gums therefore they're safe for kids but dont let it eat it like it's food neither, it's still a medication. and no you shouldn't rub it on their teething toys. just put it on the gum of the tooth that's coming out. what also help is putting the teething toys in the freezer or refrigerator part, it'll numb their gum when they chew on it.
Reply:I found the ones they have set up as medicine inside the swab works best.. But by all means if your finger gives him comfort let him use it to ease pressue when really bad. I put it on the main area of pain and sometimes aorund others in close proximity. My get 2 teeth/time.

If you don't like swab ones or can't find it can't hurt to try the toy.

I mostly just used it at night so they could get to sleep.
Reply:just apply directly to his gums. I wouldn't put it on his teething toys. He may rub it in his eyes. And yes if he swallows to much he will get a belly ache. Same rules apply that go with tooth paste.
Reply:Stay away from the orajel because it will do more damage to his gums in the long run than you think. Try the teething tablets they not only work better but they wont hurt his gums like the orajel would.
Reply:Try a 1:1 mixture of oral benadryl %26amp; maalox. The maalox coats the gums %26amp; the benadryl provides pain relief without the fear of numbing their gag reflex with the oragel. You should rub either on the gums Outting it on his toy or passy will cause him to swallow it or get on tongue instead of where it is needed. You can use the mixture more often that oragel.

Reply:Teething gel is fine. It is safe, but be sure that is it the kind for babies, like Baby Orajel. Swallowing it is not going to hurt him unless it he swallowed like a whole bunch. They also have teething tablets. These things are awesome, and I checked with my daughter's doctor because I didn't know if they were safe to use and she said they were fine.
Reply:Teething gels can contain alcohol and other ingredients that aren't good for babies.

When my daughter was teething, I got some teething rings and put them in the fridge. The cold rings provided the relief she needed without any nasty ingredients.

What is teething?

everyone keeps telling me that teething occurs around 6months, and you give your baby frozen stuff to munch on, and bonjela. what i want to know from your experience, does this sound like stage 1 teething : my daughter keeps munching on her hands, she tries to put her whole fist in her mouth and gets fustrated and then cries. She wants to chew on anything she can get near her mouth, She has very faint white buds in her gums ( i can see the teeth underneath the gums ) but not too close to the surface, like i can white in her bottom gums ( bottom two teeth). she produces alot of saliva..

Now please tell me... does this sound like she is in her stage 1 teething?! - first time mom, with a 4month old daughter

What is teething?
Yes, she is teething and those white spots on ther gums are her teeth under the surface. The first stage of teething, the jaw is moving and it is forcing the front bottom teeth up (those are the first to come in). Since she doesn't have any teeth, don't give her any food. An ice cube (whole) in a wash cloth is great to use. Take 1 whole piece of ice and place it in the center of a clean wash cloth and then take a pony tail holder and secure the ice inside and then give it to her to chew on. You will have to hold it! Or you can go to any store that sells baby stuff and get a gel ring that you put in the freezer and take out when her mouth hurts. But, I personally liked the ice and so did my 4 kids. The second stage is when the teeth break skin and start to come up to the fullest and that isn't so bad. It just hurts when it trying to break through. Did you ever have your wisdom teeth come completely in? Think back to that and you will know what she is going through 28x.

The fun part is when the teeth start to "break" the skin, she will drool buckets, bite people and have diarrhea. Ora-gel has a baby gel that you can put on her gums for the pain but it burns so I never used it.

And, always call and speak with the pediatrician nurse about it. They can tell you better what to do. Hope that helps. And this is just the beginning of the teething. It will always get worse before it gets better.
Reply:Yes , she is most definitely teething! It can happen at different times for different babies. I had one baby that cut her first tooth at five months and was teething at four and a half months.
Reply:teething is when the teeth of a baby start to break through the skin, the toys help to soothe and numb the excruciating pain this causes

and yes, she is most definitely teething
Reply:This very definitely sounds like she's teething. Remember that when people tell you that babies start doing something at a certain age, they mean on an average. All babies progress at their own rate and will do everything in their own time. I've had a child that didn't start teething till she was almost 8 months old, and another that started teething at 3 months. If you're really concerned, take her to her doctor's and see what he says and what he recommends. Just remember that each baby is different and what's true for one baby may not be true for another.
Reply:ya, she is definately teething. Poor baby. Teething rings, and cold items are best. Doctors actually recommend NOT using anything frozen anymore because it can cause damage and be too hard for baby. Also, it is recommended NOT to use orajel. Rubbing her gums and anything safe she can chew or rub her gums on would be good.
Reply:yes. 4 months is a very normal age to get teeth at. Not unusual at all.

Good luck and hopefully she won't be in too much pain which will make life easier for you.
Reply:Yep! that sounds like teething to me..

cold wash cloth to chew on, they make teethers you can put in the freezer for her.. the baby oral gel is good too. and the wanting to chew stuff is normal too lol so is the massive drooling, lol

Certainly sounds like she is in her stage one teething :P

Good luck and gratz!

p.s. 6months is a general age for teething to start, doesnt mean it's for EVERY baby.. I havea neice who is 3 1/2 months and she is already teething too.. I have a great aunt who was born with 2 teeth already! Every baby is different!

Teething Question...?

My lil girl is 5 1/2 months she is cutting two teeth (the both have broken through at the same time) and possibly another is coming in. She has had Diahrrea for 4 days now, It is very watery and kinda orange she is poohing about 6+ times a day, but she is not fussy or crying, as a matter of fact she is still laughing and playing like normal, everyone is telling me it is just normal with teething not to worry about her. But I am worried about her dehiderating, I started giving her Pedia Light yesterday (even though I have not spoken to her Dr. Is this ok too) Did any of your children do this while teething? As long as she is still peeing regularly then she is ok with fluids right? At what point do you think I should take her to her Dr.

Sorry I know there are a lot of questions here, but I am a 1st time mom, and I dont have my mom to ask these types of questions to...

Thanks

Teething Question...?
Although most doctor deny it, diarrhea is very common during teething.

Babies have increased saliva due to the teething and that causes the diarrhea.

Just change her as often as needed , even leave her with out a diaper once in a while. That really is good to air everything out.

You can continue with formula .This should resolve by it self.

Enjoy your baby !
Reply:My son gets the runs every time before he starts the fussy part of teething. And its horridly wet and runny and lasts about 3-4 days.

I honestly wouldnt worry about it. Everyone I know has had the same issue. My doctor told me they dont know why it happens, but it does and not to worry about it.

So long as she doesnt have fever just keep drinks available for her and it will pass.
Reply:These symptoms are typical for a child who is teething, but they might be related to an infection, which teething children are more suseptible to due to stress. A couple of signs you can look for with concern to dehydration: dark yellow urine, dry/cracked lips, dry skin. Keep up with the pedialyte, and if you notice any signs of dehydration, or diahrrea continues for more than a week, take her to the MD for a checkup.
Reply:Just take her to the doctor anyway, don't try to diagnose your baby yourself. Even though it probably is because she's teething, or her carrots she;s been eating dont agree with her. Theres no dumb reason to go the doctor take her to the doctor.
Reply:I have two boys one who just turned three and a four month old. if you ever have any questions feel free to ask. cuz i love to help other moms.

All i can tell you is take her to the doctor so she doesn't get dehydrated!!!! So keep my info in case you need some help!!!
Reply:it is completely normal. as long as you are keeping fluids in her you have nothing to worry about. it is a normal side effect of teething. the only worry you should have is a nasty rash.. keep her dry and clean at all times...
Reply:What my mum tells me is if your worried go to the doctor or your areas family health clinic if price is a problem. Yes alot of babies get the runs when their teething but it may also be something else you should find out just for peace of mind
