Teething...?

My 5 month old son's 2 bottom teeth are just coming through these past couple of nights, I have been giving him Tylenol to help ease the pain, and in hopes of maybe getting a couple of hours of sleep myself, but it hasn't worked. I always thought that Tylenol was supposed to make him drowsy, but it doesn't. It also didn't seem to be helping him with the pain so I went out and got him some Advil and tried that last night, but still nothing. He still wakes up sometimes 3 or 4 times within and hour, and the most he sleeps is for 2 hours straight. Any suggestions? Why is the Tylenol and Advil not working for him? I talked to my doctor to make sure I was giving him the correct dose because he is a very BIG baby (26lbs at 5 1/2 months) Any ideas are appeciated.

If they're under 6 months, you shouldn't give them Motrin. My son is teething(he's 5 months as well) and I use the teething tablets. Hylands makes them, and so does Little Remedies. I use the Little Remedies brand(I get them at Kroger, the Hylands I've found at CVS), and they help him relax so he can sleep. It says to put them under the tongue, but most babies won't keep them there, so I just put them in the back of his jaw and keep an eye on him.They're all natural, which is a plus! I only use Tylenol if the teething pain is accompanied with a fever. My son is also a big baby(around 24 pounds) and if I remember correctly, I can give him 1/2 a tsp of Tylenol every 6 hours. My pediatrician said no Motrin until at least 6 months old. And if he's anything like my little guy, he drools so much that the Orajel stuff would last a whole 2 seconds, lol.





Also, he likes to chew on his pacifiers(I keep some in the freezer in a ZipTop bag to keep them cold), because he hates those water filled teething rings. He also likes to chew on a washcloth. Best of luck to you, just remember it WILL get better!
Reply:My mom gave us kids teething rings and she would put them in the freezer and give them to us and that seemed to help her out and we got our sleep and so did she I hope it works out for you and WOW what a big baby but very Handsome and so cute !!
Reply:try putting teething medician on them and give him the tylnol, your doing a great job.
Reply:You can give him tylenol and motrin at the same time.They both work for pain but they have different chemicals.Tylenol is every 4 to 6 hours and I think Motrin is every 8.i did that for my daughter during the night and it worked for me.During the day I would only give her the tylenol and teething rings or cold washcloths.Good luck and I hope this helps.
Reply:When my daughter was a baby, I would put a wet wash cloth in the fridge for about half an hour to get cold and let her chew on that. It was a good and cost effective alternative to a teething ring. Orajel is also a life saver. I wish you the best of luck with this, but it is just another bump in the road. By the way, you do have a very cute little one.
Reply:well when my baby was teeth were coming out i gave her Tylenol and buy her teeth gel u know the one you give to a kid when their teeth hurts. go to sav-on and ask for what can you do to help your baby teeth.

TEETHING RING AND SOME BABY OREL GEL.
Reply:Cool teething rings help. Also, pick up some baby oral gel. It works like regular Oral-gel for adults but is special for babies.
Reply:neither advil or tylanol are NOT for sleep. they are for pain and help fight fevers. Part of teething is not sleeping well. Have you tried the numzit over the counter medication that you put on the baby's gums? That might give him some more relief
Reply:You might try a Playtex Teething Pacifier. When I gave my son the Tylonel it would work for about 3 hours, but I didn't like giving him drugs all the time for the pain. The pacifier seems to work really well for my son. Believe me I have tried many different things for teething.
Reply:you can too give him tyenol or motrin. if people read the box and the back of the bottle. it does say on there that it can be used for teething. it don't say it on motrin but the tyenol it does. you can give them motrin. cause that last's longer then the tyenol. take the wash cloth and put in in the freezer for awhile and that work's pretty good. and another thing the reason why he may be not sleeping good it cause when they lay down they can have pressure on thier ear's like having a earache. that is cause from teething. good luck.
