baby is 6 weeks tommorrow....last week I thought I saw a white dot on her lower gum but put it down to a spot of milk...then yesteray my friend ame to visit and commented that she saw a "flash of white" on her bottom gum....my husband just said the same...we had a look and I can see the outline of her lower teeth but one of them is quite close to the surface....is it possible to get teeth this young? Also my friend said that baby would be too young for teething gel or other teething medicine...is she right? baby has been colicky for two weeks though this is geting much better..now I wonder if some of her grizzly moments are due to teething?
6 week old baby teething!!/?
It is possible to teethe that young. I wouldn't give her anything for it unless her pediatrician agrees to something. I haven't yet given my baby any teething gels or anything, just a little tylenol once when he was complaining. he is 9 months old though and just got his first two bottom teeth abut 2 weeks ago..
Reply:Hiya, some babies are actually born with teeth, so its not too soon for them to come through at all. There are some good herbal powders out there for teething which I think newborns can have. They worked wonders for my 2 but they were not as young as yours. Good luck
Reply:Yes it's possible.
Baby Tylenol and suck things can be used but ONLY after you talk to the doctor. They'll take things into consideration like her weight.
Also gripe water is fine to give at 6 weeks, and helps with colic due to teething.
I would say get her some teethers, but she probably doesn't have that hand to mouth thing down yet. My daughter is 7 months and just cut her first tooth, I feel so bad for her, I can't imagine what I would have done 6 months ago!
Good luck and congradualtions! (Remember, it will get easier.)
Reply:It's not common, but definitely possible! My doctor told me that it was okay to use tylenol for teething, which is actually better than oragel because if they ingest too much it can irritate their tummys. Check with your doctor!
Reply:It is quite young but also not unheard of. They could stay like that for a long time yet. Speak to your health visitor to confirm she is teething before you start using teething gel. You could try putting ice on her gums.
Reply:babies can really teethe at any age.. some are born with a full set.. i think you can get something to help soothe her pain.. i think maybe dentinox teething gel is suitable from birth.. you can buy it from Boots, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Lloyds pharmacy.. im sure thats what i used when my daughter had gum boils when she was 5 weeks.. if ur worried give ur health visitor a call or see ur gp.. good luck!!
Reply:It is highly unlikely that the baby is teething at 6wks of age. However, it is not impossible either. Regarding giving gels for teething, I wouldn't subject that little infant to anything toxic from the outside world. Especially, if the baby has been colicky for the past 2wks. Could you check the white spot again and see if it rubs off? Are there any other white spots in the mouth? Roof of mouth? If so, see the doctor. Maybe that is the reason for the colick. FYI, you can call the babies doctors office and ask questions. They will usually answer them for you without being seen.
Reply:Although teeth may not start to come through for at least couple of months, some babies show signs of teething about now. Some don’t have any problems with teething; others become fretful, dribble a lot and have red cheeks.
To help soothe any pain or discomfort your baby has when teething, try
Giving him something hard to bite on such as a teething ring; it may be more soothing if chilled in the fridge first.
tylenol once has caffene in it so dont use that as suggested by another yahoo member
Reply:yes! my baby started at 6 weeks. shes now 13 and crying and moaning alot. we give ours a gel called dentinox i think. pharmacist recommended as she can have from newborn. Also these powders in a green and white box called teetha. they are made by nelsons. my hv said its more common than you think and dont forget some babies are born with teeth. even tho shes started now tho prepare yourself as they may still not be here when she is 9 months. sometimes it takes that long. the main thing when they are that age is just cuddle them as much as poss. oh also boots do a teething blanket from new born. think its their own and tommee tippee do these things called gummies for early teethers. they look like dummies but are gum shaped. hope that helps and i feel for you cos if they arent now then they will be miserable.
Reply:It does happening sometimes in some cases baby's are born with teeth, but the best thing you can do to be on the save side its visit a doctor.
Reply:When my daughter was 2 months old she started acting like she was teething (drooling, chewing on whatever she could get in her mouth, a little fussy) and I could see and feel her two bottom teeth just below the surface. It took two months for those teeth to come through, but once they did the fussiness, chewing, and drooling stopped. So, yeah, babies can start teething that early. I just hope your baby's teeth come through faster than my baby's did! The poor little thing was miserable.
