Help for teething discomfort?

My 4 month old seems to be very uncomfortable. He's very fussy and rubs at his ears but the ped. says it's just teething. He won't take any kind of teething/chewy thing--cold, freezing, or room temp. Also, the gum numbing stuff doesn't really seem to make a diff, either.

I'm interested to hear what everyone has tried and what worked. I'm willing to try anything that won't make it worse!

Help for teething discomfort?
Teething tablets. They're all natural, and dissolve in their mouths. I only use Tylenol as a last resort, and only if he has a temperature. Most docs recommend holding off on the Motrin until 6months of age. My son also likes to chew on a washcloth, or a pacifier. He won't touch his teething ring at all. But the teething tablets work for him very well. Best of luck, it's SO hard going through teething!
Reply:vibrating teething ring or one of those vibrating ink pens that swirl they like the massaging effect they do sell them in some stores.
Reply:You may try Motrin, but with your doctors ok first. I was having the same problem. I finally gave in a got my son a Playtex Pacifier. This pacifier is made for teethers and my son just loves them. Hyland's Teething Tablets may help also.
Reply:try a freezer pop or a pop cycle the sugar will probably entice him to suck on it and help ease the pain of his gums.

Reply:Ask your pedi. about infants tylenol. I was VERY reluctnant to put any "drugs" into my baby, but it turned out that tylenol was the only thing that eased his pain.

I feel your pain. Best of luck to you!
Reply:I would suggest tylonal every 4 hours and ibprofren every 6 hours. Baby orajel is good. If nothing else works then put some whisky on his gums.
Reply:Dip your finger in whiskey or dark rum and rub his gums with it. It won't get him drunk or anything it's not going to hurt him at all. My great-grandmother did it for my grandma she did it for my mom and so on. Try it on your own gums and see how it feels then you'll understand. I know as an adult I couldn't get to the dentist fast enough for a broken tooth. I dipped a paper towel in the whiskey put it on my tooth and ran to the dentist. It really does temporally help.
Reply:I just went threw the same thing about 3 months ago. I love motrin for baby. Not to much, but a dose at night helps them to feel more comfy, and helps them sleep better too. Other than that I'd say patience! Oh, you could try a frozen washcloth. This seemed to help for a friend of mine.
Reply:use the baby pain reliever and rub his gums with it if that want work give him a sugar tit what i mean is put about a tablespoon of sugar in a rag and tie it real tight and give him it
Reply:I found a teether at a local drug store that vibrates when pressure is put on it and my son loved it when he was teething. The vibration actually helped soothe him to sleep.
Reply:My daughter was a hard teether. She loved ice though so since he doesn't like cold I suggest Hylands teething Tablets. They have no taste and melt right into his mouth. They seemed to work. Also I don't suggest Motrin. Tylenol has been proven to be the safest thing for children. Motrin can be hard on the kidneys. You could also try a warm cloth for him to chew on. My Mom use to swear by wetting a brown paper bag and heating it up. I don't suggest that-hehe. The old fashined remedies. Sometimes by rubbing his gums that can help too. I wish you the best. It can be miserable for them to get thru this. If you do choose to use Motrin cut the dose down and only use it to get him thru the night if he is really having a hard time sleeping.
Reply:Get a bottle of whiskey or fruit flavored brandy

Rub a little on his gums Trust me it works I have a three month old little boy who has been teething for three weeks now My mother in law told me to do that and I put some on his gums at least three times a day either right before I give him his bottle or I have his pacifier handy
Reply:A vibration teething ring, or some pharmices have this stuff called Dr. Hands teething lotion, it helped my son a lot, Try a cold wet wash cloth also. Good Luck
Reply:Homeopathic teething tablets are great. Some people have already suggested. I worked very well with my son. Its natural and no side effects.
Reply:Best thing for me was Tylenol and/or Tempra.......
Reply:They make a homeopathic teething tablet that works really well and its all natural. But it can sometimes make your baby sleepy so make sure you give it to him at a time that you dont mind him being tired. I would try that but you could also use baby tylenol. He may also like chewing on your finger or a wet washcloth if he is refusing a teething ring.
