Teething Symptoms?

My 5 month old son has been getting little fevers that will come and then go within a cuople of hours. He has been very irratable lately for about a week. My spouse says that I should take him to the doctor to see what is wrong, but I have this feeling that he may just be experiencing symptoms of his first tooth coming thru! Anyone dealing with the same problems right now? What do you do to calm them down when they are like this? I have given him cold teething rings (does not like)!

Teething Symptoms?
My son has been teething foreverit seems. last night his favorite thing to start chewing on was a new clean nose surenge (sp) I found that anything he wants to chew on works. As for the pain at night. I smear a little of the baby orjel on his binky and then let him put it back in his mouth...that way I dont have to fight with him to get it on his gums. Something that I have found that sooths the swelling a little is: making apot of camimile tea and soaking a wash cloth in it. I put the wash cloth in a baggie and stick it in the fridge to cool. he walks around the house chewing on that all evening long.
Reply:You can let him chew on a frozen waffle. Just be careful . When it starts to thaw, take it from him. When he really seems like he is in pain, a little Tylenol goes a long way.
Reply:Yes, probably teething. Try some Tylenol, you will have to call the doctor for the correct dosage because it goes by weight and at that age the dosage is not on the bottle. Also, try rubbing a bit of orajel on his sore gums. Is there a lot of drool? That is a sure sign a tooth is coming. If you look at his gums you may be able to see the white of the tooth coming in or it may be swollen.
Reply:My baby just chewed on everything especially his fingers when his first two teeth were coming through. Some babies respond well to the gels you can put on their gums and a little baby panadol or whatever the brand is where you are is not a bad idea if they are really distressed. You can feel their gums and you'll be able to feel the teeth coming through and you'll know for sure whether he is teething.
Reply:Babies do get mild fevers when they are teething. Nothing to worry about but if it gets too high then take him to the hospital. Also, they grab their ears when they teeth. I took my baby to the doctors because I thought she might have an ear infection and it turned out to be just teething. They can feel it in their jaws and the jaw is close to the ear so they end up grabbing those. My daughter didnt like the teething rings either so we stuck a damp washcloth in the freezer for a few minutes and let her suck on that and it did the trick. You can also put a pacifier in the freezer for a little bit. Tylenol infant drops also worked. I would give my daughter half a dose to take the edge off her pain. A full dose would knock her out.
Reply:symptoms: fever, aching gum, crying, rubbing the gums

you can give the baby something cold to suck on to soothe his mouth. there are also medicines he can take to get rid of the pain completely. talk to your doctor.
