My son is 6 1/2 months and already got his first 2 teeth at four months, but I think he's teething again. He's been getting up all hours of the night, and doesn't go back to sleep easily. He's also had a runny nose, which could mean a million things I know, I just wasn't sure if teething was associated with runny noses or not.
Does teething usually include a runny nose and unusual sleep patterns?
Yes, it can be teething. Upset stomach, drooling, crying and runny nose can all be part of teething. Just watch for fever and get some baby oraigel (spell?)
Good Luck
Reply:With clear boogers yes!!!! As long as they are clear... if they are discolored no... also, wetter poop, fever, rash all can be signs too!
Reply:so.. doctors like to tell you that teething does NOT cause fever and does NOT cause runny noses and does NOT cause all types of things...
but think about it. when you're in pain and you're run down, you start getting weird symptoms that really aren't all that related to what's going on, but nevertheless its happening. well, in such a tiny body, when they're that run down (the stress from teething), of course their bodies are going to get a little of sync.
i haven't been around a single baby that hasn't had a fever and hasn't had a runny nose and hasn't presented like s/he has an ear infection or a cold while teething. not one. but every doctor will try to tell you that teething doesn't cause that.
teething causes them pain, which will most likely wake them up during sleep. maybe ask your doctor if you can give your baby tylenol? that may help to reduce the pain and swelling in the gums, it will also reduce the fever, allowing your baby to relax and sleep.
teething is a tough time. keep plenty of teethers around, especially the ones that freeze. sometimes a frozen washcloth helps too. just wet a washcloth and throw it in the freezer for awhile, and then give it to your baby to suck/chew on.
best of luck to you!
Reply:yes I think so. Both of my kids would get runny noses, drool twice as much and sleep when ever their little bodies gave out or the Tylenol would kick in. I agree their "runny" should be clear. If another color than there is something else going on. Also watch for tugging on the ears. That is a sign for when their molars are coming in and yes can lead to ear infections.
Reply:Yes it can.
Reply:It can be. Each baby reacts differently to teething, your mommy instincts will let you know if your baby is uncomfortable!
