9 1/2 month old teething?

My daughter is teething, the past couple nights she's been waking a lot - usually nursing her back to sleep works but last night she wasn't even comforted with that. I gave her some Tylenol, a few teething tablets and even a very small amount of ambesol before I could finally get her to calm down and go back into her crib. Has anyone else had to deal with this - what did you do to help your fussy tired baby? Also, her cheeks are red from the teething, anyone else who had that happen to your baby did you just use a baby lotion on them to help the redness. She's having a harder time with teething than our son did so I'm very tired and wanting to make sure I'm doing all that I can for her. Thanks.

Every baby teeths differently....with my son, I used to give him those frozen ice pops, as the coldness helped numb his teeth some. The redness in her cheeks may be from the crying....not much to worry about there, unless she's running a fever too. What you are giving her for her teeth is good though!!! Also, get her some of those "teething toys". That will help her to cut them through the gums better.
Reply:Try giving her a cold washcloth to chew on. It helped mine. As for the redness, I don't know what could be causing that. Bless her little heart.
Reply:I used to use a cold damp clamp on my kids' gums to help them. With the redness the best thing is to just use a little baby lotion and should help for a bit while your trying to get the swelling down in her gums,.
Reply:I think that you should just make sure she as a full belly before sleeping and then, when she wakes up give her a pacifier,

it helps soothe, and she can gum it for relief,

also tylenol, or advil as advil is the anti inflamitory and might offer more relief

Reply:Aww poor little thing. teething is one of the most horrible phase.

this works very well for my daughter. i saw it at all local drug stores, walmart, target... maybe you can give it a try?

let her chew a wet towel will help too.
Reply:Could her cheeks be read because of a teething induced fever? The tylenol would get that anyway, but that's curious...were they chapped? Or flushed?

In anycase, yes I have the baby motrin on hand and the anbesol ..my son has had a few tough evenings ....

It sounds like you're doing everything right...

The only other thing I can think of to help relieve pain is for daytime not bedtime, and that would just be a frozen washcloth to chew on...

But it sounds like you have it all covered.
Reply:Every child is different (you should have expected this in nearly every answer) as you full well know. So I would go about it as a normal teething process, provide her with what seems to have the best soothing effect and if all else fails, fall back on the southern remedy of whiskey.
Reply:Have you tried letting her cry for ten minutes?

Sometimes they'll cry themselves to sleep. 10 minutes isn't long, but I know it feels like forever when you're timing it through her wailing.

Goodluck.
Reply:Teething differs from child to child. You can try the wash clothe in the freezer thing, cool teethers, teething bread is good. massaging the gums, You can eve use the toothpaste with the little brush to help massage it a bit. I use the Baby Orajel teething swabs. Those help our situation when it gets tough. For the cheeks, possibly use baby oil instead of the lotion. Lotion can dry it out even more due to the alcohol in it.

Of course consult your doctor if it continues in deep pain, they may have more information for you.
Reply:the redness will go away no need for lotion. does she use a pacifier at all? try the playtex binkis they are big and my kids love them. get one of those freezable chew toys (my daughter LOVE them) also a damp washcloth. teething stinks. :-(
Reply:It sounds like you are doing everything right. As for her cheeks...if they are chapped, baby lotion can burn because of the ingrediants. Try something like Aveeno brand lotions. They are very gental on chapped skin. Hope she feels better!!
Reply:It sounds to me like you are doing everything just fine. When my son was teething, I got lucky. I gave him Tylenol and Teething tablets at the same time, and he did fine. My daughter is just about to start teething, so I don't know how that is gonna work. Hopefully she'll make it easy too. Just do what you know will work, and if it doesn't just remember it will pass eventually.. lol.
Reply:try putting an icecube in a washcloth and wrapping a rubber band around it to keep it inside. She'll naw on the ice through the washcloth and this could give her some comfort. We call it an "icee" and my daughter, who's 13 months old now, can ask for it by name.

It sounds like you're doing all you can for her. If she is feverish it's more than likely from teething and Tylenol for the fever and ambesol for the pain will help. Just make sure you're giving the right doses.

Good luck!
Reply:For really bad teething, we do motrin and tylenol alternating each dose. Cold stuff to chew on, and lots of love.
Reply:try cold teethers or a damp cloth, tylenol is good for pain and the fever. try baby oil.. and bring her to a pedia just to be sure.. congrats for a job well done....
