MOMMIES, teething question...?

ok my son never complained when he was teething...no crying or sleeping problems, now my 1 year old daughter had a cough and stuffy runny nose, i took her to the dr and they said her ears looked red but no obvoius infection so they put her on amox. well besides her cough improving nothing else has! she suddenly wont nap cries through the night and the nose is still a problem my question is could she just be still teething at the same time? she has 2 teeth now but im wondering if her cries of pain are her teeth and not so much the infection. any ideas? she does sometimes have a low grade fever as well..

MOMMIES, teething question...?
I'm not a mommy but, I've been a step mom in the past. Low grade fever with teething is somewhat normal, but every child is different. In my case.....every time I cut a tooth...I got an ear infection because my Eustachian tubes (the tubes between the ear and nasal cavity) was too small. Teething seems to cause excessive saliva and mucus production. If the Eustachian tubes become clogged....pressure in the eardrums/infection seem to follow. Even without an infection....the pressure on the eardrums can be very painful...(think riding in an airplane and not being able to 'pop' your ears as you ascend/descend) If the baby is fussy it's probably pain from the teething...Ora gel works great. If the baby is tugging at their ears....it's probably ear pain associated with the teething and baby Tylenol or other baby pain meds may work. Worse case scenario is needing to get tubes in the ears, but it will solve the ear issues.
Reply:Sounds like my first son! My youngest could care less (compared to baby#1), but my first was miserable every single time he got a tooth (actually...he is just 2...so he still gets miserable when he gets molars!). Give her some motrin, if it is teeth, it will help.
Reply:sounds to me like teething..i would try some over the counter products for teething..we found that tylenol and night time orajel works really well. and it that doesnt work you can eliminate that
Reply:This tip I got it from my midwife:

When the tooth is growing, it needs calcium so it will take from the ear because it is closer, so just give very little liquid calcium and she'll not have any more ear pain. I haven't had any problem with ear ache so far, and mu 9 mo has 4 teeth and two more coming.
Reply:A nurse practitioner also told me about the liquid Calcium, and it worked for my daughter. She is now 14 months old and she just got two of her molars and she was a little fussy but it was nothing like when she got her first teeth.
