My son is 4 months, and he may be teething.. he's got a slight redness on the cheecks, doesnt sleep well at night, sometimes fusses for no apparent reason, drools exessively and bites down hard on anything he can get his hands on..
1. So does teething pain come and go? Or is it constant? How long untill a tooth actually breaks through the skin?
2.Are Hylands Tables effective? Since i'm really not sure, i'm not giving him Tylenol or even orajel. ijust give him a damp washcloth to chew on, or a teething ring, or rub his gums with my finger.. but he's miserable, so how do the Hylands tablets work, and how effective?
General q's about teething baby?
Teeting pain does come and go. The time it takes for a tooth to break through depends on your baby and what tooth he's getting. Some only take a week or two, while others seem like they're never going to break through!
I never used Hyland's tablets, but I did use a similar brand that you buy at Walgreen's. I think the tablets help calm the baby and offer some pain relief.
Please don't be worried about offering your baby some medication for pain relief. I would recommend using Baby Motrin instead of Tylenol, though. The Motrin is specifically designed to help deal with the inflammation and the relief comes a little faster and lasts a little longer. Since some babies can get an upset stomach from Motrin, give your son small snack with the Motrin. If he isn't eating any solid foods, just give him the Motrin right before or right after he has a bottle/breastfeeds.
My son started to teeth when he was ten weeks old!!
Good luck!
Reply:i use the baby orajel and teething ring. my son is 10 months now and barley got his first tooth last month. so i also give him popcicles to help, but you might want to try that when your son is a little older. for now just stick to the teething ring and orajel
Reply:My daughter will be 5 month tomorrow....well she began to start teething a little after 4 months too! Well, with her the pain does come and go...but I don't know how long it will take for the teeth to come in. You ask about Hylands teething tablets...............they work GREAT!!!! It says to give them 2 or 3 at time every 4 hours.....well, I give Emma 3.....I take 1 at a time it wet it in my mouth.....then pinch it so that is like powder and then let her suck it off my finger......it seems to take the pain away and she is able to get some rest......hope that helps!!
Reply:The first person's answer is great. One thing I thought that I'd mention, however, is that you cannot give your infant Motrin until they're 6 months old. My 8 month old son is currently getting his top two teeth in, and they just WON'T come through! We've been giving him Motrin, but Tylenol worked well also when he got his bottom two in. (He was 5 months old) We have been using the Hyland's tablets, and it seems to be working. We put about 3 in a bottle either when he needs a nap or before bedtime. It's not really a huge difference, but it doesn't hurt so we're sticking with them for now.
One thing that was funny that he loved today was a very very cold bottle of water. He liked to bite down on the bottom of it. It seemed to give him some relief!
Good luck!
