Infant Teething Information Please?
Couldn't find any pics...

The lower front 2 teeth almost always come in first. When a tooth erupts, the gums become inflamed and feel boggy or swollen and squishy. One easy way to tell when a tooth is erupting is to compare the upper and lower front gums. If the lower gum is just as firm as the top gum, then the tooth is not erupting. If the lower gum is swollen and squishy compared to the top, then that lower front tooth is probably coming through.
Reply:Drooling, crying , and swollen gums.
Reply:alot of dribbling is a give away.reallly red cheeks and sometimes they can get a bit of nappy rash too
Reply:Here are a couple teething sites..
Reply:Gums rock hard, and very red.. baby continually wanting to bite things, hands in mouth covered in slobber... no cures but you can help with by getting a teething ring, the type that you can put in the fridge, borngela for when they want to go to sleep. bickie pegs teething biscuits
Reply:If you suspect this may be the case, take a look in baby's mouth. Focus on the area of the bottom front teeth (they are typically the first to erupt). If the gums are red and swollen, you've got a teether on your hands! In addition, other symptoms may include:

Excessive drooling (often accompanied by a facial rash)

Chewing on fingers and toys

Irritability and sleeplessness

Ear pulling

Lack of appetite

A low-grade fever

Diarrhea

Reply:I'm a dental hygienist, and these are all good answers so far. I've seen babies with first eruptions from 3mos. to 18 mos. of age. And they each exhibit the same symptoms: excessive drooling, chewing on fingers and hands, crankiness, ruddy cheeks... The excessive amount of saliva causes the red cheeks. Sometimes you may see a slight spike in temperature or a slightly runny diaper. The gums may appear swollen, squishy, even raised in two little purplish mounds on the bottom ridge. 99.9% of the time the first teeth to erupt are those 2 cute little chiclets on the bottom. My daughter started hers at 3mos and had 8 teeth by the time she was 7mos old. I found letting her chew/suck on a cool damp cloth soothed her sore gums, as well as use of Hyland's tablets. She rarely used teething rings, but those work well for some kids. If your baby is exhibiting any of those symptoms, there are probably some precious little buds on there way! Once they are in, don't forget to "brush" them...even if it's just with a wet washcloth! Good Luck, and happy brushing!
