Last teething question I SWEAR (I think...)?

Did it seem to get worse at night?? With her it does, and I am assuming it's the teething (drool, fists in mouth all day) but at night she gets fussy...sometimes inconsolable...it's like 1/2 of colic hell has returned. Hearing her screaming like this at night is bringing back bad memories. Did you have a baby that seemed to be more "sensitive" to teething at night? Colic doesn't return does it? It's not NEARLY as bad as it was at 6 weeks, but I guess I just got used to having a happy girl.

oh, and the last time I asked a colic question on here a couple months ago I had someone tell me it was "made up" and colic is just another word for a crying baby and all babies cry and to suck it up basically...please don't do that. I'm in a mood today ;-)

Last teething question I SWEAR (I think...)?
my baby is just about 10 months now and he is teething. i can see the teeth coming in. it is MUCH worse at night. for the past few nights i havent had much sleep. he's been sleeping at 2am sometimes!

the thing that works a little bit is hylands teething tablets. it seems to calm him down a little and he will go to sleep a while after.
Reply:how old is your baby? teething can take forever, they start the drooling and fist eating months before a tooth erupts. I have been blessed to never have a colicky baby (just high need, easily irritated babies!!), so I don;t know if it can return, or if she may just be a sensitive baby. Have you tried any homeopathic teething remedies? Hylands teething tablets are available at most drug stores, they can work wonders!!
Reply:I'm not sure I understand all of your question.

Yes, it does get worse at night because there's nothing to distract, all she feels is the pain. That's when I've used infant motrin, so we can all rest.

It is similar to colic, but yes "colic" isn't a disease or anything, it's a catchall phrase for upset baby behavior. I still say my baby was colicy, but really he was just a fuss-pot.

Anyway, I feel this is one of the unsung advantages of breastfeeding. My son was SO upset by teething, I had to nurse him and some nights, I nursed the ENTIRE TWELVE HOURS! Ugh! But it was better that than hear him scream.

I have something horrible to tell you. This is all just training for the first year molars, and THAT is training for the canines and the second year molars. Those rotten second year molars took SIX WEEKS to come in. And I think THAT is why you shouldn't wean til 2.5! Man, you need everything you can get to combat that!
Reply:not sure how old your little one is....but my daughter started at 3 months.....drooling hand in mouth, not sleeping....ahh it was hard.....but at 6 months she had her first bottom tooth come up and a week later the second one was there right beside it!

My daughter never slept thru the nights when she first strted teehting.... it was very hard the nights...but when her teth were there and you could see them...she slept so so so much i was worried.......

try asking your doctor for kammomile balls (herbal )

i give her them before she goes to bed and they work very nicely.....its all herbal remedies.....!!!!

soon she will be a happy girl again!!

good luck!
Reply:With my son I gave him pain relief med just a little but only if it was really bad because that is what the doc said (I know now they say don't give babies medicain because babies have died from it. But if you read the stories they all seemed to be because the parents were over doing it with the med.) The doc said don't use the baby oragel because the numbing could close there throat up and that would not be a good thing. So I always avoided using that. Also try the teething rings. Or I would always stick my son's binki's in the freezer so they were nice and cold and that helped a lot also. Good Luck and trust me it does get better. :)
Reply:For my baby, at least, teething was worse at night. During the day he would play, eat, watch us, and was pretty distracted. We could tell that it wasn't very comfortable, but at night, and some times for naps, he would have such a hard time. There he was trying to fall asleep, he wasn't doing anything distracting, and I'm sure it bugged the heck out of him. I don't really think he was in a lot of pain though. We would put some night time orajel on his gums where he was teething (the bottom front) a few minutes before putting him to bed. On the couple of nights that it was really bad we ended up giving him a dose of infant tylenol.

Teething can take a long time since the teeth start to feel uncomfortable before they break though. They also tend to break through, then go back up a little bit, break through again etc. I'm not sure about colic returning though. Yes, colic is just a fancy name for a crying baby, but a routinely inconsolable crying baby. Colic isn't caused by any environmental factors or feeding factors though, so even IF she is colicky again, it wasn't because you did anything.
Reply:im in the saaaame boat.. my son is 3 1/2 and he constantly drools more then ever, and sticks his whole fist in his mouth i see that his gums are swollen more then ever so i got him teething rings, but nothing seems to console him either...worst of all is he got the colds that were going around here, so not only do i have a sick baby but hes teething too.. he was never colicy so i dont know about if its worse, but he screamed so much that we got baby ambesol and he is in a good mood today... hope you find some help with your daughter...congrats!
