I've heard two different stories on this. A lot of parenting books and magazines say that more frequent spitting up isn't related to teething, but I've talked to a few nurses and a doctor who say it's normal for a baby to spit up a little more often when teething. My son is getting a new tooth and has spit up a little more often than normal, but only since his tooth has started to break through. How many moms out there have children who do the same when teething and is it really normal?
Spitting up and teething?
Yes, it is very normal. I have twins and both of them did the same thing. I am also a nurse and can give you a little tip: get some fennel seed in the spice isle, put about 2 cap fulls in a little water and boil it for about 5 minutes, put in bottle or sippy cup with a LITTLE sugar. This cures spitting up, gas, and constipation. IT REALLY WORKS AND I SWEAR BY IT! You can ask any doctor and they will tell you the same if you feel more comfortable. Old family trick that has been passed down for generations in my family and I thank god for it! Good Luck...it will help and don't be concerned all is normal with your baby!
Reply:My baby did, I bought him some teething tablets, all natural, they really helped ease the pain. I bought them at Kmart.
Reply:My baby is very pukey when he is cutting a toot and what he throws up is more curdled. I give him some gripe water to help. Think of how much more they drool and how you would feel if you swallowed that much drool!
Some moms report stinkier poo, diaper rash, rash around the mouth, fever and stuffiness.
Hope he feels better soon!
Reply:I found with my boys excessive dribbling was a sign of teething also a bit of diarrhoea that left their bum very sore and red for 24 hrs were also signs red cheeks too. I never noticed an increase in them spitting up though.
Reply:Babies spit up more because of the excess saliva from the gums where the tooth or teeth are cutting in.It just appears as formula or breastmilk spit-up because the two are mixing.
Reply:Okay, here's the short version:
Babies will puke, spit up and drool when teething. If you look in a mirror, you will see the top two center and the bottom two center front teeth. The first tooth on either side of the bottom center are called stomach teeth and the first tooth on either side of the top center are called eye teeth. When the baby is cutting the eye teeth, he/she will get really bad headaches. When he/she is cutting the stomach teeth, they will throw up and even run a fever. Just give them some baby aspirin for the pain and try leeks or those long green onions to let the baby teeth on. The onion juice numbs the gums. They may have stinky breath, but they will be happy babies. Trust me, I have four, all grown and six grand babies.
Reply:Absolutely normal. This will resolve itself. To make him more comfortable, try putting a teething ring in the freezer. The cold will help to soothe his gums. Also chewing something hard helps too. Sounds crazy because their little gums hurt so badly, but chewing something hard really does help. If it seems that nothing is helping, ask your doctor about an appropriate dose of baby Tylenol or Motrin. Hate to use the stuff myself but sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures %26amp; when your child is hurting Nothing is outside of the realm of solutions as long as it's safe.
Reply:I am wondering if he isn't lactose intollerant. My son now has 12 teeth at 19 months and I only recall him spitting up maybe 5 times since cutting his first tooth.
