My son is 5 months old and he has all the signs of teething.
He has been running a low grade fever for about 2 weeks. Sometimes spiking higher.
I called His doc when it got to 102.1 and said it was a cold and to just give him tyenol. Well after that the fever stopped but Now today he is running a low grade fever again nothing above 100.8. Other than this he has been acting pretty normal. He is eating and playin. Im going to call the doc again monday if this keeps on. She didnt want to give me a appointment last time which i think is a load of crap. Hello his fever was high high and its flu season.
Is this normal??? If this is teething when can i expect this tooth to come through or the fever completly.
Thank you. Im a first time mom so please no rude answers
Teething question?
First of all take his temperature when he is in just a diaper no cover and in his crib. Wrapping a baby up will increase his temperature and give you less credibility with his doctor. If he has no other signs of illness (vomiting, cranky, crying, diarrhea) then make sure he is hydrated well and try ice chips inside a clean wet washcloth held firmly by you (no choking danger) against his gums. If it is a comfortable temperature inside do not overdress him. Doctors are always dismissing a parent as overprotective and overly concerned about every little thing. Because we usually are. If you suspect something more serious then insist on getting in to see the doctor or worst case go to the ER. Better overprotective and embarrassed than standing by and letting something serious effect your child.
I also agree that if your doctor refuses to see you when you are upset and worried about your child you should get another doctor. The job of a good doctor is to help you understand your child and the myriad of illnesses he will have over the next twenty years.
Reply:102 is not really high, my son just got molars and he reached 104.1 we then went and gave him a cool cloth and put a fan on him, this is all normal... doctors cant tell you that fevers are normal for teething, but every mom out there will tell you everytime that their baby got a tooth they got a fever, I got to side with your doctor on this one, if the fever has gone down and hes playing and eating, just give him cool stuff to chew on and hold him lots and lots. cause really thats all you can do.
Reply:Fever, Diharrea, and drooling are all good indicators of teething. I would give the recommended dose of tylenol if baby is fussy. I love teething tablets, they worked well for all of my kids...you can get them in the grocery store or Walmart. They dissolve under their tongue, and make them not so restless when they're teething. Good luck!
Reply:DO NOT GIVE HIM TEETHING TABLETS!!!!!! Or if you do, read the ingredients first. The tablets that walmart stocks contains Belladonna, which is a derivative of the Deadly Nightshade plant. The deadly nightshade is poisonous, as the name implies. Another major ingredient is caffeine. So, basically you are giving your child a cup of coffee and a dose of poison.
Some are safe. Just be careful and read the ingredients. And I would be leery of a doctor that won't see you if you ask. My pediatrician is wonderful, and sees me if I call. I am also a first time mom, and she works me in if I call and want to see her. She is the one who told me about the teething tablets.
Reply:it can take month before the teeth come threw. my baby girl started when she was 3 months and she did not get her first tooth untill she was 10 months 3 days old if that helps also try giving the baby a wet wash clothes or even baby chew toys it will help but he will have a temp off and on untill they come threw
