My 16 week old baby girl seems to be teething. She is frantically trying to bite on anything she can get her hands on and seems in pain. Her cheek on the side she is biting seems very red, is this a little early to start teething? I have teething rings etc.. but they are too big to fit in her mouth!!
No anwers saying "ask your doctor" please. I want to hear other people's experiences with this as my doctor says just to give her a dummy.
16 week old teething?
My son was like this at 16 weeks, yet he didn't actually get a tooth through until he was nearly a year old! Now at 14 months old he has 8!
My Health Visitor said that basically what happens is that the teeth start forming in their gums at this age and it can cause painful teething symptoms.
I would recommend some Calpol, it worked wonders for my son, and soothed his pain. You can also buy something called a "Gummy Teether" by Tommee Tippee and its like a little plastic gumshield on a dummy base, specially for littler babies. You just pop it in their mouths for them to suck on. My son had one! You can spread teething gel on it too. Dentinox is a good teething gel and can be used from birth.

The other possibility is that he's just discovered he has hands and is busy finding out about them by putting them in his mouth a lot!
Reply:my daughter cut her first tooth when she was four weeks old....and the second was at five weeks old......my two boys started to cut teeth at eight weeks old....so it can happen any time.....
Reply:She seems very young to be teething, but this is possible as some babies grow their teeth when they are born! I would advise just to give her a teething ring, and if she's in unbearable pain, give her a painkiller, such as calpol or ibuprofen (for babies). It is a hard time for babies and parents, but they have to go through it! Go to your chemist and ask about a herbal medicine called ashton and parsons...it's a white powder to give to babies when they are teething.
Hope your baby feels better!
Reply:no its not to early for her to be teething, you can get a teething gel or you can get teething granuals to rub on her gums, there are smaller different shaped teething rings for smaller babies, chemists should have them,
Reply:is she old enough for bonjella? i cant remember if it can be used from 3 or 6 months.
When my kids were teething i used an ice cube in a clean face cloth, and rubbed it over the gums as i also found teething rings too big. My mum rubbed brandy / whiskey on my gums as a baby. Im not saying to do this just saying what my mum did.
You can buy teething rings now what are like dummies, but they have what i can only describe as a gum shield for teething on, ive seen them in boots. Talk to your chemist, they might have new products on the market now designed for teething (2 yrs ago since my youngest teethed)
Could you give her some calpol to help ease the pain?
Reply:my son is 14 weeks old and i think he's teething already also. i think it just depends on the baby. but the only thing you can do is just prepare yourself. teethers, orajel and i bought a toothbrush and toothpaste for babys and have started to brush his gums. so many children these days that have silver teeth.
Reply:i think it is normal and OK for your baby to be having teeth this soon. for your surprise there are babies that are born with teeth and mind you...this one teeth grows to be the strongest.
i don't think you should be worrying much, she might be in pain (cause it should be painful anyway) and uncomfortable, but just let her bite on something that will not harm her.
I am not an expert but i hope that my answer have helped you a little bit. don't worry much, OK?
take care of the little one
Reply:Our little girl was having teething symptoms very early aswell, the swelling and whitening of the gums included, but didnt actually cut her first tooth until 7 months.
Bonjela works well or any other teething gels you may have, if they're safe to use on her age, pretty sure they are, but check the packaging on different products.
Try going for a smaller teething product.
You can get a lot of toys that have smaller teething peices attatched, rather then a larger teething ring or other plain teether.
Also you may find in a shop a teething pack for babies, these generally have something like a small gum massager, which would probably also be a better size for a smaller mouth.
Reply:I know a child who was born with a tooth, it can happen any time. With my children I put a little bit of teething gel on their gums and a little bit of calpol when necessary. I hate dummies but there are some nice soft rattle/ teething rings out there, some do seem big but I think it is to prevent choking. My son used to chew his cot, it was full of little teeth marks!
Reply:sounds like it ,sometimes you can feel heat on there face where there teeth are coming through an quite often they get a sore bottom. you can buy teething pegs that you could hold for her whilst she chews from the chemist
Reply:it is certainly possible... some babies are even born with teeth! not to comfortable for the breastfeeding though lol!
Reply:she may be teething, its fine, dont worry. wash your fingers nicely, apply a gum paint or honey on your finger, and massage her gums, try once if it suits her massage thrice daily. slowly massage her forehead and scalp.
Reply:My daughter starting teething at 4 months. So this is not out of the ordinary. She wasn't a biter really, but I use hyland's teething tablets and biter biscuits(they make a huge mess)
I also gave her straws because they were small enough to fit on her mouth..... This is going to sound crazy, but I kept a few of them in the freezer filled with water. I would melt one end of the straw to it would seal shut, then fill it with water and seal the other end by melting it. She loved that.
I never used binkeys(dummys) or teething rings because she didn't like holding them cos they were cold....
So I have no miracle cure but straws that are frozen, ones that are not frozen and hylands teething tablets... that's my wonderful advice. I also made her bottles with chamomile tea at night, and give her a bath with chamomile tea in it as well to help relax her... it worked rather well.
Reply:walmart has something called teething tablets....they are found in the baby section where the pacifers and such are at........they work great.......just put in mouth %26amp; they dissolve
Reply:no it is not unusual hun, i have answered your other question about Bonjela, or Mundisal as you get it, if you google mundisal there is a website where you can buy bonjela as we know it online
hope this helps hun
Reply:I use Ashton %26amp; Parsons teething powders, which are suitable for babies under 6 months, as they are in powder form they absorb straight into the gums. They are really good, my daughter is teething at the moment so I used them last night. They also check stomach disorders associated with teething. I would recommend them.
