my daughter has been dribbling LODES. she has been dribbling since she was about three months old, at first we just thought she was teeting early. she chews anything and is even trying to chew at my neck right now! she puts everything she can get hold of in her mouth, is this just her exploring things or could it be a sign of her teething? shes now nearly five months old and still hasnt cut a tooth. how long does it take for a baby to cut a tooth? could she be teething? is there anything we can do to help (eg. teethers, teething gel etc)? thanks
Could she be teething?
It very well could be teething, however my son didn't cut his first tooth until he was exactly 8 months old. He did drool alot and chew on everything and got a little cranky. A couple things that helped him was definitely tylenol, but also wet a wash cloth and put it in the freezer. Just wet one end of it so she can hold the dry end and chew on the frozen end. Also, i haven't tried this, but it sounded like a good idea...put a tiny bit of juice in a bottle (just enough so that it fills the nipple and turn it upside down and put it in the freezer. Once it is frozen, she can chew on the nipple and it will not only relieve her gums it will taste good too. Note: make sure you put a cup under the nipple to catch any drippings until the juice freezes.
Reply:Has she got pink cheeks? Is she getting runny nappies? If so then she is probably teething.
Reply:yep teething.
I really liked Teething Tablets. They're all natural homeopathic little tablets. At Walgreens next to the Orajel.
Reply:My baby drooled like a fool for a month until he actually cut at 4 months.
Reply:It could be teething, or my ped explained that infants start producing more saliva at 3 months old, but they don't know what to do with it, so it just drools out their mouth. Here's a link that might help you determine if your baby's teething or not.
Reply:Sounds like teething to me. My son started at around 4 or 5 months but didn't cut his first tooth until 8 months.
Give her a teething ring that you can keep in the fridge to cool, and keep some Bonjela and Calpol to hand. I've also heard that Clove oil massaged into babies gums is great for relieving teething, but i haven't tried it myself.
Keep a bib on her so the dribbling doesn't irritate her skin.
Reply:It sounds like your daughter is teething. My daughter is 5 months and she has been teething since she was 2 months and has no tooth yet. Some babies don't get a tooth until there about 1 years old. My daughter drools all the time and she has a rash under her chin from all the drooling. You can rub your daughter gums with a cold wash rag, a clean finger. Teething rings do not work for my daughter. My daughter wakes up about 3 times a night now, yesterday she did not sleep at all I only got 2 hours of sleep.
Reply:my daughter is 3 months and she has one red cheek and is dribbiling alot, i have been rubbing teething gel on her gums when she seems to be getting uncomfortable with it, yes she could be teething
Reply:It does sounds like teething. My daughter was up all night last night trying to chew on everything! She finally settled on a satin blanket. She's only 8 weeks. I have heard that Hurricane works wonders. I'm going to try it for myself.
Reply:the teeth can be moving long before they cut through. my son, now almost 7 mo. just cut his first two teeth, though he's been drooling and in pain for a long time. if you give your baby hyland's teething tablets (AWESOME) or some motrin or something, and she calms down from being upset, you know she's been in pain. people also say that giving baby chunks of frozen waffles to chew on are great.
the sleeping issue is possibly something different. she's getting older and probably growing, maybe needing to eat more during the day so she doesn't wake up more at night to eat, and she's learning that she wants the pleasure of your company more and will be more likely to wake up and want you there. i HIGHLY recommend the book "healthy sleep habits happy child" by marc weissbluth. it's a great informational book that includes helping you understand baby's sleep/awake patterns at different stages and what they need. it's not hard core "cry it out" but offers different solutions to different sleep problems for all different parenting styles, even attachment parenting
Reply:All babies put EVERYTHING in their mouth. It's how they discover things. It's just a stage she's going through. She will start to cry for "no reason" when she begins to teeth. You should take a new clean sponge, cut it in half, get it wet, put each of the halves in zip lock baggies and freeze them. Once frozen, give her the sponge to suck on. My kids love it. Also, if you leave it in the ziplock baggie, it makes a great (and colorful) ice pack for boo boos.
Reply:Yes she sounds like she is teething. My daughter started doing the same things at around 3 months and she didn't cut her first tooth until she was 6 months old. The teeth came fast, too, because she is 8 months old now and has 8 teeth! The drooling isn't so bad now, but she still puts everything in her mouth. I like the Orajel baby teething gel. It worked best for her.
Reply:yeah it sounds like teething my daughter is 14 weeks old and she started teethin at 3 months i got her some teething gel and calpol to hand she started chewing her hand and alo i got her some teething rings or another tip is to get some carrot peel it and then wash and chill it this will help the teeth feel less sore
Reply:it sounds like teething to me.
my little boy is the same.
his clothes are always soaked cos of drool.
he always has rosey cheeks.
sometimes runny poo - all signs of teething.
my little boy is 5 month old and still hasnt cut a tooth but it can take ages before it happens and every baby cuts teeth at different ages.
you can get teething gels, teethers, teething sprays to put spray on the gums, teething powder also capol can help too.
you can find nearly all of them at boots and chemists should stock them in too.
Reply:Yeah defo teething. my little boy was like that from about 3 months and at 6months he cut 3 teeth within a space of a few days. he is now 7months old and his 4th tooth is nearly through, i have had sleepless nights the last 2weeks and the runny nappies etc. so hopefully any day now his 4th one will cut.
good luck, hope this helps.
Reply:She may well be teething but having runny poo doesnt just mean they are teething, as everyone else suggest try rubbing her gums with your finger or give her a baby tooth brush that she can chew on then when she gets teeth she wont be afraid of the toothbrush. i would also give her some calpol if it gets to bad, your daughter is also at an age now where she wants to explore her surroundings, but i reccomend a toothbrush for her to chew on.
