Four month old teething??? growth spurt??? developmental changes???

My son will be four months old on Friday. The past week he has been crazily gnawing on his hands and he's been more fussy than usual. My prior kids did not start teething until around 6 months old. This little man, though I can feel no sign of any teeth starting to come through his gums, seems to be teething or possibly just going through some new developmental stage. My problem with it all is that he will no longer nurse efficiently. I woke up this morning with a clogged duct that was red/warm to the touch because he is not eating a full "meal" anymore. He will latch on, swallow a few times and then PULL off. He does not let go, he just pulls off. He goes back on, drinks a bit, and pulls off. Back on, and pulls off. Not only is it painful, but I'm not sure what to attribute it to. He has no fever and is not drooling any more than normal. Have any other moms had this experience with a four month old, or with a teething four month old?

my son is going through the same thing at the moment.

but i can see the tooth and and big bump where it is.

although you cant see the tooth doesnt mean its not pushing its way up.

my son will not stop crying if he is not in the air so i no what your going through.

he fingers and hands are always at/in his mouth!

my son is the same, he wont finished his bottle at all not like he used to anyways.

he used to drink it dry but not now.

just get some Calpol and teething gel to help with the pain of it all.

it might calm him down a touch and help him sleep some of the pain off.
Reply:they all begin teething on their own time but i didn't know my 7 month was teething til she got the first two teeth. She would drink from the bottle and they stop and cry and then drink more and stop and cry. She did that through the whole feeding and she had been doing that for awhile. and then i realized when i saw the teeth. kids are all different/ my now 23 month old did not get her first tooth til after she was i but then they kept coming and coming. so that could be your baby's problem
Reply:My son is also 4 months old and you would think his hand was attached to his mouth. He is constantly chewing on it. He has also been extremely cranky. I asked the doctor about it at his 4 month checkup and he said that even though you cannot see them yet there may be a tooth trying to come through.
