My daughter is a week shy of 4 months. She has been having what I'd consider teething symptoms for the last week or so -- Low-grade fever not going over 100, extreme fussiness, runny nose, only shows relief when gnawing her fists or a teething ring, etc.
My question is... with your child, how long did it take from the time teething symptoms heavily began until the first tooth came through? Also, I've heard the first tooth is the worse ... was this the case with your child or is my child likely to have this pain/behavior for the next several months?
My daughter has been sleeping through most of the night since 3 weeks old (sleep 5-7 hours, wake for a bottle, and then sleep 4 more hours). For the past week, she is waking up every 2-3 hours and has been getting MUCH more fussy than she ever has before. Has anyone else had this problem? And how long until it resolves itself? Or does it?
Thanks for any advice/stories/suggestions you guys can share!
How long does teething of the first tooth typically last?
Are you sure your daughter isn't sick like the rest of the world? Do you think maybe she could have an ear infection? Sorry, I'll answer your teething questions...my daughter had the same symptoms when she was teething at 5 1/2 months. She was fussy, drooling, in pain (all of the things you mentioned your daughter has) for a week or more. Are her gums swollen at all? Do you see any white through her gums? That's usually a tell-tale sign that teeth are coming for sure. Have you tried giving her Tylenol to help with pain? I found that helps a lot. Also, if she is teething, don't be surprised if she pushes her bottle away (or your breast). I have learned that when babies are teething, the sucking sensation really bothers them. My daugher is actually doing that now...pushing the bottle away (I think she is getting her top teeth). Good luck and welcome those pearly whites!
Reply:My daughter starting teething months ago and still no tooth
Reply:My daughter is 5 months and she was teething when she was only a couple of weeks and still no tooth.
Reply:First, make sure it's not a medical problem, like ear infection and such.
My son was teething for about a month untill his 1st tooth popped out at 4 1/2 months. Second followed 10 days later, and 3rd exactly a month from then.
Since every baby is different it's so hard to tell when your baby's tooth will come in. Best thing you can do is put something cold on it to bring the swelling down so the tooth can cut through swollen gum.
My son was very fussy with his 1st tooth also. But with following teeth, he was fussy maybe a week before it broke through the skin. Now we have molars coming in and it's like 1st teeth all over again!! fussy fussy!
Reply:My son has been teething since 3 months and he just turned 5 months.......no sign of any teeth yet! I keep looking but I don't see anything! Good question!
Reply:hi! my son was drooling for a long time and just loved to chew and gnaw on things for many months. but when he was around 6 months, there was a few days (like 4 or 5 days) that he was just grumpy and wanted to be held all the time. after that, his first tooth poked through. his second tooth came a week or two after that, but he wasn't fussy like when the first one came. that was my experience. good luck!
Reply:some can last a week or two and a tooth will appear.
some can have these symptoms on and off for months before a tooth appeared.
the latter is what happened w/ my daughter. she started the classic fussy, excessive drooling, extra fussy at night, desperately gnawing hands, fingers, teethers... at around 2 months.
about the waking: "Common times for growth spurts are during the first few days at home and around 7-10 days, 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks, 3 months, 4 months, 6 months and 9 months (more or less). Babies don't read calendars, however, so your baby may do things differently." This may be part of her waking more frequently too.
I used teething tablets usually... just chamomila alone during the day and the Hyland's at night (because the belladonna in Hyland's can have a "knock out" effect). When real pain set it, I wasn't afraid to give her real medicine. like when her gums were visibly irritated, red, sometimes even hot when no fever was present, I would give Tylenol.
it would happen for a few days to a week every month until she finally erupted teeth at 10.5 months!
Reply:my son started showing all these symptoms when he was 3 months old.. on and of this lasted for 6 more months before his forst tooth popped out when he was a week more than 9 months, and its different for every tooth, i dint think the first was the worst.. he got 7 teeth within 6 weeks after that!
but one thing, he had a great nighttime routine till the teething began and then it just got completely messed up - he would wake up with his fingers in his mouth and was very fussy and thats one thing i just dint know what to about, calpol dint help the only thing that seemed to soothe him was my finger and a cuddle!
Reply:My son started teething around three months his first tooth his upper right central broke through three days later had a horrible hematoma for his left central it broke though and bleed within two days of the hematoma. Now his top left lateral came in two days ago and now has another hematoma on his upper right lateral. He really only teethes for a few days to a week then teeth break through!
