Teething? already???

our baby is 3.5 months old and is constantly drooling and trying to chew on everything including her fists....is it possible that she is teething?

how old was your baby when they started teething?

how long did it take for a tooth to come through?

what did you do or give them to ease the process?

Teething? already???
The teething process usually starts at their 5th to 6th month. Your baby is in the oral phase thats why he/she puts anything in their mouth because thats what they feel satisfying. Make sure to keep the baby's hand clean and all the things around him/her so that you can protect her from microbial infection.

When his/her gums start to swell thats the time that the teeth would come out. 2-3 weeks and 2 front teeth is already out. And usually while your baby is in the process he/she may have a fever not above 39C, make sure to bring your baby to a pediatrician so that she can give the right dose of antipyretic to your baby.

You can give her something to chew, like a teether. Its a rubber toy that could be sterilized and is safe for babies. And usually while they are teething, babies are quite irritable and restless. It is advisable that you give your child a teether and it will help to ease the pain, since chewing something hard will be soothing for them and it is their way of coping with the pain.

If you have other concerns, consult your pediatrician.

Reply:Babies start teething at all ages. My baby had teething symptoms (chewing, biting, drooling etc) for about 2 months before the tooth actually came through. So it varies - alot!! No baby is the same in regard to teething (as well as all the other steps: crawling, sitting etc).

You can go to any pharmacy- they have teething gel that you can apply to his/her gums. Also you can buy teething toys (pathmark, walmart, shoprite - any store!) that can be frozen so when the baby chews on it it provides a cooling/numbing sensation.

Good luck!
Reply:Could be teething, it can start very early with some babies. My girl started at 4mths, it went on for a good 3 or 4 weeks, then her first tooth finally popped out when she was 5mths and 2 days old! That's one of the few milestones I remember. I wasnt smart enough to figure out her problems were due to teething until 2wks into it already, then I bought her one of those teething rings you can put in the fridge. The problem was that she was putting everything into her mouth and biting/gumming it EXCEPT the teething ring I got for her!
Reply:Teething is a start/stop process and has already begun in the womb (some babies are actually born with teeth, so there is no "too early" about it. Your babies teeth are slowly coming to the gum surface and this can cause a lot of tenderness, however far down underneath the gum they actually are - the tooth doesn't have to be imminent by any means. So yes, it is highly likely that your baby is teething, but it doesn't always mean a tooth is on the way soon - although it might be! Your baby doesn't seem unduly bothered or in any pain, so I'd just conclude that since babies are very oral at this age anyway (whether teeth are a contributing reason for this or not!) it's impossible to say.

All babies get their front bottom two teeth first. You can rub this area - and all the gum areas - firmly with a clean fingertip and this can be quite soothing. If the pain starts stopping them from sleeping then a baby paracetamol suspension is very helpful.
Reply:I've only just had my baby 2 weeks ago, but I've worked with children and had children in my care. It is possible she is teething. All babies are different and start teething at different times. Here in australia alot of people use a gel called bongela, its a numbing agent made specifically for teething infants. Good luck and hope your little one doesn't get a fever.
