Another Teething Question?

Thanks for all the advice on soothing my teething son. I have another question. Is spitting up more often and larger amounts a sign of teething as well? My son spits up more now that he has begun teething. He doesn't cry or anything, but he didn't begin this until he broke his two teeth.

Another Teething Question?
Spitting up can be a sign of teething. Most doctors will tell you no, but I've seen it happen more times than I can count on 2 hands. What tends to happen is the pain makes them anxious about eating (even though the act of eating usually makes sore gums feel better because of the pressure that they put on them during the process). The anxiety leads to 2 things...a much more sensitive gag reflex, and an upset tummy...both of which tend to lead to more spitting up. The best thing you can do is just reassure baby while feeding him. Talk to him in a soothing voice, and here's a suggestion that might help. When you go to get his food ready, sit him in his highchair for the few minutes with a cool teething ring. It might just be enough to help calm his anxieties. If things don't improve in a week or two, or you don't see any new teeth by then, I'd go to the doctor for a checkup to rule out other causes. Hope it helps!
Reply:When my son started teething his vomitting began. His was more of a symptom of eating more food than his tiny tummy could handle. His pediatrician told me that babies don't yet have the ability to tell when they are full, so they best thing to do is to feed them more often and in smaller amounts, until they learn to control their eating. It worked wonders for my son.

Your son could be getting an upset stomach if you are using OTC teething gels. I used a homemade ground cloves/vinegar paste to put on my son's gums. It seemed to work better and longer for him, an dhe didn't drool half as much when I used that.
Reply:My son does it more now that he has started teething also. I dont know if its because of the teething but he never spit up before.
Reply:I've never heard of babies spitting up when they are teething. It could be more of a digestive problem. Talk to the doctor. A lot of babies have acid reflux. I have five kids and they all spit up, but by the time they were teething they were starting to slow down with the spitting up.
