How long can teething really last?

My daugher is 4 months old and seems to be teething off and on for the last month. Last week she was miserable and not sleeping well at all and this week seems to be okay. She isnt totally cooridnated yet to get something in her hand to her mouth but she is getting closer. She spits out cold pacifiers as soon as theyre warm. She constantly has her hands in her mouth and now theyre starting to look a little sore from all the sucking and drooling. She has other signs of teething and we've ended up giving her tylenol or teething gel when we had to but not in excess.

I would like to know the average amount of time between the starting of teething behavior and when the tooth/teeth actually show up and maybe any other ideas that may work for her.. I hate to see her in any pain. I know every baby is different but it would make me feel better if I had a reference in mind.

Once the syptoms start for my little girl it takes 2 weeks for the tooth to break the skin. Ohh here is a handy hint to help you....Molars are the worst!!!! They wake them up and oh so much more painful than other teeth!! Ummm we used jerky and just held it in her mouth for her....frozen of course...they can suck and chew on it but never get a peice of it off becuase they don't have teeth!!! The other thing that worked really well for us was make peppermint tea and make ice cubes then put the icecube in a washcloth and wet the tip let her suck on it. The peppermint is a natural numbing agent and also helps with upset tummy and is a natural sleep inducer. My daughter never gets just one tooth at a time she gets anywhere from 3-6 teeth at once....not normal so don't worry. They usually get 1 or 2 at the same time. my neice has been teething for over a year and still only has 2 teeth in her beautiful head. Every child is different. wait for the first tooth and think about when the first syptoms started then you have a good time reference.

Reply:ha my son has been doing that since about 3-4 months and he still has no teeth at 8 1/2 months. they cna feel them long before we see tehm- when you go your wisdom teeth how long did you feel them before them began to erupt
Reply:My son started really teething at 4 months and every week my mother-in-law would feel his gums and say "only another week or two"

He cut his first teeth just before 7 months.

Of course then there's the next teeth... sorry.
Reply:My daughter has drooled and shoved her hands in her mouth from the beginning. I have to put vaseline on her face to keep it from breaking out. She is now 6 months old and last week broke her first tooth and then another this week. Around 4 months I thought she was teething and gave her teething tablets but she just broke teeth. As they say over and over everyone is different. Good Luck !!!!
Reply:My twins now are 6 1/2months old and still they havn't had tooth. They have been teething every since they were 3 months. Good luck, it will be a while.
