Teething question??

My daughter is 5 months old and the past few days she has been acting strange - fussier than usual and wanting to keep sucking for a long time at the breast, without taking in any milk. Yesterday we noticed that she had 2 white spots at the front bottom part of her mouth under her gums, so we think the issue is teething. She really didnt start crying about it until yesterday, but has had a hard time today as well. How long does this usually last before the tooth comes through and she gets relief? Any suggestions to help her? we've tried a refrigerated teething ring, hyland's teething tablets, and tylenol.

Teething question??
Nurse a lot--it's the best thing for her sore gums. First of all, sucking is comforting to her. Second, it puts pressure on her gums. And third, human milk contains natural pain relievers.

Some babies teethe for months before the tooth/teeth actually appear, but for most babies, it's a matter of days by the time you can see the tooth approaching.
Reply:Try a frozen teething ring. If they aren't frozen then she could poke a hole in it and the stuff inside is very bad for you. Plus, if it's frozen that should numb the area a little and keep it from hurting as bad.
Reply:It sounds like you are doing your best to help her. It can take weeks for the teeth to come in. It just depends on the growth rate of her teeth. Hang in there, though. My son enjoyed otter pops. Share a popsicle with him! It's only temporary relief, but it helps. Try freezing the teething ring. Maybe a pacifier, so she can bite on it instead of you during feeding. Good luck, and hang in there!
Reply:Try rubbing baby origel (spelling I hope you know what I mean) on her gums. Also I believe gerber has these pretzle sticks and shortbread sticks that she can chew on to help.
Reply:It could be anywhere from a few days to a few more months. My son teethed for about 4 months before breaking in teeth. What your doing is helping a little. Also try a bottle with ice water to help numb her gums. not a lot of ice though. Baby orajel helps some too.
Reply:Wet a clean wash cloth and put it in the fridge for a while till nice and cold. Let her gum that. Can't remember how long it takes before tooth pops thru.
Reply:It'll be a while for the teeth to come in. Try some frozen carrots or rubbing her gums with your finger. If that doesn't work, better call your pediatrition. He'll give you more options.
Reply:try a frozen carrot. large enough to fit in her mouth, but not small enough to swallow. The cold makes her teeth feel better. My kids loved it when they hit teething to scrape their teeth across it. Worked out great. hope it helps.A doctor suggested it to me.
Reply:It usually last about 2 weeks for me before they get over it. I always gave my kids the cold teething ring and some motrin, tylenol, or ibuprofen. I never used the teething jel because it only last about 30 minutes then you have to reapply. They get used to it. its better a liquid pain reliever and cold teething ring. at least the motrin last 8 hrs. keep pleny of rings they warm up fast and you need to be able to alternate.
Reply:It's just started and it won't end till she get's all her teeth in. A good solution is freeze a wet washrad and let her have it. It cost you nothing and you can keep enough in the freezer where she will never run out. Supervise her with it so she does'nt suffocate. I found the cheap washrags work better for that. They are thin enough where you don't have to worry about it. Good luck !!!! Also check with your doctor to make sure it's not Thrush....
Reply:Frozrn bagels did the trick with Maya. It got easier as she got older, but it is just a difficult thing. Also, try rubbing her gums if she seems to be particurally uncomfortable.
Reply:at 5 months if she is getting teeths then she has a good fast growth of teeth n it will soon come out. if she is not crying then no need to worry about only thing u can do is give her refrigerated teething ring . otherwise u get homeopathic medicines which r not haqving any side effects also u can give those.

just massage her gums with cold cloth if she allows that.
Reply:Rub a little rum on her gums. It's fine. . this wont have an adverse effect on your little sweetheart. It will numb the gums, and you won't be using enough to get her DRUNK! But, this isn't always seem as the BEST thing to do. Just allow your child to suck on your finger or rub her gums with your finger.

It's natural. . seeing as liquour is fermented.

And, in reference to the comment on thrush. . . Thrush flakes off. . . So, if the white spots can be flaked off. . and if the area surrounding it is slightly swollen. . then it may be thrush.
Reply:i think it takes about 2mo to come out iam not sure but have u put oral gel on her gums that will help her out
Reply:she won't get relief until about 2 years old. if she is okay with solids you could try a frozen waffel or a halfed frozen banana on a stick. these worked great for both of my sons.
Reply:My son is 9 mo. and teething and his "bad days" usually last anywhere from 3-5 days. I have heard the most painful part is when the tooth is actually first cutting through the gum. Once it is through, that pain should go away. But after that, there's probably going to be another tooth coming in. We use tylenol, teething tablets, and even orajel sometimes. Sometimes it help, sometimes not. The best thing I have found is those Nuby spoons ( can get them at walmart). They are kind of rubbery. He will sit and chew on that for a while and it seem to help. I'm not sure if it's the part about it being new for a moment and he forgets the pain or if it actually soothes his mouth. Either way, that's what I have to do sometimes.
