Teething Questions?

My daughter is 6 months old and she has always been a really easy baby. She is usually very smiley and happy. Today though she was really cranky. She was drooling so much that she would choke on it and have coughing fits. She also is biting really hard-way harder than she normally does. On top of that she hasn't wanted to take any naps today. I figured she would at least go to bed a little early tonight but that didn't happen either.lol. Her gums don't look swollen yet or anything. Is their anything I can do for her besides Hylands teething tablets? I would love to hear any of your experiences! I am really hoping that she isn't like this everyday. I feel so bad for her but it also makes it hard to do anything else when she is so cranky.

Also, I am pretty sure she is teething but is their a chance that she might not be since her gums don't look swollen? How long do you think it will be until they come through?!

Thanks for your tips!

Teething Questions?
You can try cooling a damp, clean washcloth and letting her chew on that..my daughter loved it! My son? Not so much. LOL

It's always possible that she's having some aches and pains...the jaw and ear area tend to get a little sore just like when we have "tooth aches" so you could try a little tylenol, too.

How long does it take? My son started *teething* (WITH lil lumps on his bottom gums) two months ago and we're still waiting (he's 8 months old)...but my daughter had her first one through by 4 months. Only time will tell.

Best of luck to you!!
Reply:i opened your question to get a better look at your profile picture, what a gorgeous little girl i love the hat. its been a while since i have had to deal with teething but have you tried the liquid filled teething rings you can get? you put them in the fridge/freezer and it cools the little ones gums as they chew.
Reply:We used Ora-gel on our older girls, and that seemed to work the best. If they were drooling a lot, I would use a washcloth to wipe away as much of the saliva as I could, then apply the Ora-gel. We also used Tylenol when they were especially cranky and obviously in pain with their gums.
Reply:Hi unfortunately this happens when they teeth they will have three of four days depending on your child of throwing fits not eating being grizzly not sleeping don't panic it's normal, buy a toy or teething rings for her anything that's hard to chew, rusks (which are teething chew biscuits are great) even frozen fruit, if you have time sit and rub her gums for a while with your clean fingers see if her gums have flattened (which is when you can tell teeth start to come through because the gum flattens)! also im not sure what part of the world your in but in NZ and Australia you can get bonjella which is a numbing gel you rub it on the gums and it numbs the pain for a while anyway!
Reply:I have found that what may work one day may not the next. Sometimes we have to use several things at once to ease the pain! A few things we've done...teething tabs, night-time orajel, tylenol, teething ring, spoons (sometimes the cold metal feels good), wet washcloths. My son likes to chew on the lid of my bottled water- it's securely fastened to the bottle of course but I think he likes the rough texture of the lid. My MIL also gave me a product made by Sassy- its a mesh feeder which you are supposed to put food into but I stick an ice cube in there and he loves to chew on that.

I've been waiting for his 3rd and 4th teeth to come in for 7 weeks now- some days he's totally fine and others...yikes.
Reply:I am going through the exact same thing as we speak. Charleigh is EXACTLY the same, she also is just getting over a cold and to top it off i have had to go back to work this week:((( So i sympathise with you, Charleigh is also a really easy, smiley baby but OMG has she been a handful this week. DO you worry that she won't ever be the same baby??Ha ha. The cold wash cloth works, cold teething rings, if she is on solids anything that is cold like cold fruit puree, and the dr told me to even give her her bottles cold ( Charleigh won't take them though). I know that they can teeth for months on and off before a tooth breaks through so god only knows when it will finally appear. Other than that lots of love, cuddles and patience. Good luck......you will have to tell me if her tooth comes through and if Charleigh's hasn't i will be jealous LOL:)
Reply:Adorable baby!

My baby is turning 6 months old next week and, has begun his teething.... ARGH!

Teething tablets are good!

Baby orajel is NOT as it prolongs the teething process by hardening the gums.

There are mesh bags with screw on caps you can get at any baby store or even at Wal-mart or Kmart in the baby section. I put a frozen banana in it today and let my little guy go at it as by the time they get the food it is pureed. Also, you can put ice in it (crush it up first).

Or, you can just take a sock and put an ice cube in it and let her chew away... I like the bag cause they can hold the not cold part easily.

I've heard frozen waffles are good but have not tried them yet.

Teething rings, I get the kind with rubber/plastic on one side so that he can hold it.

Rubbing his gums with a clean finger seems to be particularly pleasant for him... He digs it! I rub them till they squeak!;-)

I would say most likely it is teething. It sure sounds like what my little guy is going through.

Very best wishes to you and your little one!
