Teething- does it cause baby to wake up screaming?

How do you know it is teething?

My son already has two teeth coming in and has never had any problems in the past waking up and screaming. But last night he was unconsolable. Even after I picked him up and rocked him he was still screaming for a while. I can't think of anything else it could be. After I rocked him a looong time and gave him a bottle he finally went back to sleep. Is this what happens during teething or could this be something else? What can I do for him?

I raised three boys. They all were different when it came to childhood illnesses. The teething can be made easy. I am 40, all of my kids are grown now. So I am from the old school. You should always keep a few of those freeze able teething rings in the freezer. This one is a little odd. Take 3 pennies of the year he/she was born. Put holes in them sand down the area and tie around the babies neck. This will help pull out the fever. You can also just buy the baby a copper bracelet, either way it helps draw out fever whenever the child is sick. You should always keep some baby oraljel to rub his gums with. The rubbing helps soften the gums so the teeth can come through easier. Some people have been known to rub their babies gums with whiskey that numbs the gums. None the less the more you rub the gums the softer they will become.
Reply:It might be an ear infection, I had to put tubes in my sons ears because he got so many and he would always cry at night. The doc said it is because when they lay down the pressure in the ear causes pain. My son's ear infections often came without any symptoms besides the crying and screaming at night.

I hope he gets better.
Reply:McMom is sooo wrong........you must determine reason for crying.....could be ear ache due to teething, gas, stomach ache.....if this continues, take to doctor........
Reply:Hello

My daughter is 3 months and already teething and she has started to do the same during the night for the last few weeks

I find a little teething gel gets her straight back off to sleep, there are plenty of optons available for 3 months onward i.e. Calgel or Bonjela

If your little one is 0-3 months though Dentinox is suitable
Reply:Yes, that may be the cause. Some teeth can cause more pain than others when coming in. It hurts and that wakes him up. You can rub orajel in his gums and also give him a little tylenol (make sure you know the right dose for your baby) and also a bit of cold water. That helps a lot.
Reply:I have never heard of teething pain hurting enough to make a child inconsolable. I would be thinking ear infection, but, if he is teething he is getting older and beginning to think things out- it could also be that he prefers you rocking him. Take him to the Doc if this behavior continues another night to rule out illness.

I hope he sleeps better tonight 4 ya.
Reply:Wash your hands and rub his gums to help them break through. I did that for my daughter and she had little or no problems with teething.
Reply:My daughter screamed like that. I gave her Tylenol and let her suck on a popsicle to ward off pain until the "drugs" kicked in. Get the flat ones and I guess I should add you supervise and hold the popsicle..
Reply:sometimes depends on the baby...My daughter was just irritable, but she woke up screaming because of gas though.

I guess It could be either one.
Reply:leave him there. he needs to scream. let him cry it out.

My baby is crying in its crib right now, i dont care.
