Teething gel?

My 7 month old angel is teething and just got his first tooth this week. He is in obvious pain so i want to use the gel but need some advice; 1) do i put it all over the complete gums or just at the front where the teeth are coming through? 2) Ive tried to put it on and he just sucks on my finger! Doesnt swallowing it cause sickness or something?! 3) can i put the gel on one of his favourite teething toys, that way he will munch on the toy and get the gel where its needed? Please help!

Teething gel?
The Hyland brand teething tablets work on some babies, and then don't work for other. oragel swabs are great, just put it where ever you can get it really, most babies fight to get it away! Any amount you can get in there should help! Also try soaking a baby wash cloth in chamomille tea with splenda as a sweetener (splenda will not hurt baby, it's made from sugar and has no calories no aspertame and won't give him diareha in this very small amount). Wring it out so that he won't choke if he sucks on the wash cloth and make sure it's warm. He will love it and will be able to chew on the cloth. The chamomille helps with soothing and imflamation. You could also try putting just water on the wash cloth and freezing it. This is sometimes easier for them to hold and chew than a teether. Tylenol only for little Mr., motrin at his size is very hard on the tummy, kidneys and liver. Good luck!
Reply:Have you tried the orajel swabs? You just snap them so the medicine flows to the end of the q-tip, then you rub that on his gums. The amount used isn't harmful if he swallows a bit (since it's pre-measured in the swab). I always focused on the area where the tooth was coming in, then went out from there just in case the other gums hurt too. It's basically just a numbing gel, it doesn't last long but provides quick, temporary relief. I've had friends swear by an herbal quick dissolve tablet, but I've never tried that. I wouldn't put the gel on the teething toy, he may get too much.
Reply:You should apply it directly to his gums. Gently hold his mouth open and rub the gel into his gums as quickly as you can.

Orajel also has a q-tip applicator that works great.

My son hated the taste of the gel so he cried but once it was over he was happy.

I wouldn't put it on his toy. You risk giving him too much and having him swallow that majority of it.

This product works great for teething and is completely safe and natural:

Reply:Oral Jel...years ago people use to rub whiskey on the gums.

However you must be mindful of how much...wouldn't want to be turned in to child protection.
Reply:it is for gums therefore they're safe for kids but dont let it eat it like it's food neither, it's still a medication. and no you shouldn't rub it on their teething toys. just put it on the gum of the tooth that's coming out. what also help is putting the teething toys in the freezer or refrigerator part, it'll numb their gum when they chew on it.
Reply:I found the ones they have set up as medicine inside the swab works best.. But by all means if your finger gives him comfort let him use it to ease pressue when really bad. I put it on the main area of pain and sometimes aorund others in close proximity. My get 2 teeth/time.

If you don't like swab ones or can't find it can't hurt to try the toy.

I mostly just used it at night so they could get to sleep.
Reply:just apply directly to his gums. I wouldn't put it on his teething toys. He may rub it in his eyes. And yes if he swallows to much he will get a belly ache. Same rules apply that go with tooth paste.
Reply:Stay away from the orajel because it will do more damage to his gums in the long run than you think. Try the teething tablets they not only work better but they wont hurt his gums like the orajel would.
Reply:Try a 1:1 mixture of oral benadryl %26amp; maalox. The maalox coats the gums %26amp; the benadryl provides pain relief without the fear of numbing their gag reflex with the oragel. You should rub either on the gums Outting it on his toy or passy will cause him to swallow it or get on tongue instead of where it is needed. You can use the mixture more often that oragel.

Reply:Teething gel is fine. It is safe, but be sure that is it the kind for babies, like Baby Orajel. Swallowing it is not going to hurt him unless it he swallowed like a whole bunch. They also have teething tablets. These things are awesome, and I checked with my daughter's doctor because I didn't know if they were safe to use and she said they were fine.
Reply:Teething gels can contain alcohol and other ingredients that aren't good for babies.

When my daughter was teething, I got some teething rings and put them in the fridge. The cold rings provided the relief she needed without any nasty ingredients.
