Teething and high fever in 6 mth old neice?

Can cutting teeth cause a 6 mth old to run fevers as high as 102 to 103, for several days.... they took her to e.r. and were told she was teething( checked ears throat etc.. no bloodwork or anything) just told them to give her tylenol and motrin.... this has helped some but the fever is back up high again.... told them they needed to take her to her doc for a recheck but they said they were not worried because a freind told them that she could run as high as 104 when teething

My kids ran some fever but never this high... just wondering

Thanks in advance

Although a low grade fever may not necessarily be unusual during teething, 103 is definitely to high to be it. The parents should see the pediatrician because there may be some other cause for your niece's fever. I guess it could be just a simple virus but there is also the risk of an infection. Hope she feels better!
Reply:Yes it's normal for some babies, they should given her a shot to bring down the fever. Take her to her pediatrician. When my kids ran fevers I would bathe them in cool water (not cold) then give them motrin. Every 4 hours give them motrin again.
Reply:102-103 is not a high fever in an infant. If she were five it would be high. Newborns are highly sensitive to fever, but with infants its a little different. Iam not sure why.

yes, teething does cause fevers. If the fever does not come down with tylenol she should see another doctor. I mean, if its still high even when she has a does in her system.

They should also alternate between acetomeniphen and ibuprophen for babies. They work different and work well in tandem.

At this point, as long as she's not lethargic showing signs of a cold, or trying to sleep constantly, i would give her the tylenol and wait for the teeth to break through.
Reply:I would take her back the last time my son (at 6 months of age) had a 103 fever it spiked to 105 instantly and i had to take him to emergency and they made me put him in a tub of cold water and dump cold water over his head i felt so bad for him.....I wouldnt wait for it to come to this
