I have just returned from a trip to my doctors with my 7 month old baby girl.
We took her because she seemed very restless at night. She is also in the early stages of teething.
The doc checked her ears and they were fine and checked her gums and confirmed it was early stages of teething.
He also said he thinks she is a bit colicky. She has several dirty nappies a day which are quite solid, rabbit dropping like. Since she has shown signs of teething she has gone off her formula a little. This left her a little dehydrated which he says can also cause colic.
His advise for her teething pain was to give her calpol (infant suspension) along with infant ibuprofen together at night to take away the pain and to help her sleep.
Has anyone got any advise or been in a similar situation with colic or any of the symptoms above?
Many thanks and a happy new year to all.x
Colic and teething?
Oh, I know what you're going through honey! First of all, take a deep breath and know that it can't last forever! lol. My daughter had terrible, awful, very bad colic! I found a few things that worked wonderfully....
Is she breast or bottle fed? Having the right bottle can make a huge difference.
I used the playtex drop-in bottles. They're wonderful because you can push all the air out of them and the nipple is so wide that it creates a barrier around babies' mouth.
The only drawback is that you have to buy liners, but they're only about 8$ for a pack of 100.
(but I thought it was a small price to pay to save my sanity and give my baby some comfort)
You also wash bottles less often. So thats something to think about.
Another thing that I couldn't have made it without, are "Hylands Homeopathic Colic Tablets" they work wonders!
I use the with my 2 month old son when he has gas too. They're 100% natural, they disolve under the tongue and should deliver relief within 15 minutes allowing your baby to sleep.
Another thing that works well is "Gripe Water" a mixture of peppermint and herbs. Also 100% natural and can be found at Walgreens. It may be by another name but if you tell the pharmacist "Gripe Water" he'll know what you mean. I belive it's 1tsp at every feeding, but the bottle will tell you.
Both of these can be found at any nature store.
The colic tablets can be found online: www.hylands.com
They are only 4.00 online. Check out thier other remedies too.
These things really work I swear!
Happy New Year!
I looked up the gripe water, the brand name is: Baby Bliss Gripe Water and is avail at Walgreens.
Here is the website: www.blissbymom.com
Hope this helps, Good Luck!
Reply:if i remember rightly my grandson was given cooled boiled water and brown sugar, hope this helps
Reply:i've been in the same situation too it's awful isn't it.
And happy new year too!
Reply:My 7 mos. old is teething as well and doesn't sleep through the night. Ibuprophen works wonders at bedtime.
Reply:When our daughter had colic we just brought her downstairs and laid her on her playmat where she danced to Strictly Come Dancing on her back! For the teething I would recommend Medisil (similar to Calpol but more effective) and teething gel. Best of luck and my sympathies as it can be a very trying time for parents. It's worth it though.
Reply:YOU COULD ALSO RUB SOME BONJELA ON THE GUMS TO SOOTH THEM,GET IT FROM THE CHEMIST
Reply:If it is teething then you might want to look into getting some teething tablets for her you'll find them around pharmacy with the adult orajel that would be the best thing and for the dehydrated problem I would try some Pedialyte or the store brand they both work the same and that will help your daughter.
I hope this helps you because I have a two year old daughter and I know how you feel because it just breaks you heat to see you little one upset or in pain and they can't just tell you whats wrong.
Reply:my two kids had colic i used gripe water and it eased 1 but the other i had to use infacol it is real pain for kids as it is stomach cramps and we know what they feel like
Reply:Try NELSON TEETHING GRANULES, they contain chamomile so they soothe and calm baby, the used to work almost instantly for my daughter, be careful about rubbing stuff into the gums because alot of the baby teething gels contain sugar so effectively you are rubbing sugar onto the gums (not good!)
for the colic, i used infacol drops and gripe water, if she is in alot of pain with colic try laying her on her back and GENTLY bending her knees and push them towards her stomach, this will release any trapped wind and they seem to like it when hey have sore tummy.
GOOD LUCK............IT WILL GET BETTER x
