Baby teething/eating troubles?

My son is 7 1/2 months old. He has his top front left tooth all the way threw (his X-mas present to me) and working on the right top tooth. His gums are getting a little swollen, so I know there is a bunch more on the move and waiting their turn to come in.

My question is, the past 2 days; he down right throws a fit when I try to give him the bottle. Could this be because of the teething and what can I do to help? Is this normal?

Some info. He had 3 bottles yesterday. Usually he drinks as soon as he gets up 6am. But yesterday he didn't drink his first bottle till noon and today it is almost 1 and he still hasn't had a bottle. He eats his normal baby food for B-fast/lunch/dinner. But sometimes that is a fight too. I have tried oragel, Tylenol, and teething tablets. It calms him down, but he still won't take the bottle.

please give me some advice of things you did or tried when your baby was teething.

Baby teething/eating troubles?
It probably is from teething. But, make sure there is no white stuff on his tongue...He could have thrush which makes it very painful to eat. It sounds like you have tried every kind of pain reliever for teething. I found tylenol works the best. The oragel just dissolves fast in the mouth, so it doesn't work very long at all. He won't starve from not eating for a few days. If it persists I would take him in to see the doctor and make sure something else isn't wrong, like thrush as I mentioned...Or he could have a sore throat...that makes it painful to eat as well. Also, sometimes babies and little kids go through periods where they plain out don't want to eat. They go through spurts of eating a lot and of eating hardly at all. It's normal. That could also be what is going on.
Reply:He may not need the bottel anymore I know my son was off the bottel at 6 months! You can get a small sippy cup and try that!
Reply:Actually, my younger daughter decided she didn't want a bottle anymore when she was about 8 months old. She just refused to drink out of it. I started giving her a sippy cup then and she's used one ever since. I don't know if it was her teething that caused her to not want it anymore or what.

As for the teething - tylenol, tylenol and more tylenol (following Dr's dosing advice, of course), cold teething rings and Oragel.
Reply:We most of the time used a combination of Orajel, cold washcloth to chew on, cold teething rings, and we've also had to massage their gums.

It is going to difficult and hard for both you and the baby, and remember it is normal, but also keep a close eye on his temperature. Sometimes they can get fevers and this will add to their discomfort.

Good luck.
Reply:I know at this age they don't drink as much formula or breastfeed as often. Have you tried giving him any water or juice?
Reply:Get you some baby nums-it for his teeth. This will help with the pain. Yes they have pain when teething and sometimes run a fever. Also a cold clean wash rag for them to chew on helps. It's very normal. Teething can be painful...if you have a tooth ache would you want to eat?
Reply:My daughter is 9 1/2 months old and is also teething. She just cut her upper tooth and now the other one is swollen.

She also doesn't take her bottle or eat baby food as much when she is teething.

1-2 days of not eating much isn't going to harm them. Try offering him cold foods, like yogurt or frozen bagels or frozen fruit to suck on.

I found that Infant Motrin works better then Tylenol. Once that kicks in he'll take the bottle or food a lot easier.

Don't give him oragel...it will also numb the back of his throat and it is very easy for him to chock. I also didn't find the teething tables to work.

Good luck!
Reply:My son did the same exact thing. He would throw his bottle when I handed it to him. I assumed it hurt him to suck. If you think about it, it does put pressure on the gums. He would have a huge melt down, and not eat much. What I did to soothe his teething pains was, put frozen grapes in a baby mesh bag. I believe it's called "Baby Mesh Feeder". It was awesome. I also put cold chunks of melon in it. He sucked and gnawed on that to relieve pain and in the meantime was getting some fresh fruit in his diet. It is a mesh bag with a screw on lid. Very safe. They have this at Babies R Us for about $10. I recommend it highly. Even to parents whose kids have teeth. It prevents choking.
Reply:My son is 6 months, and getting his top left tooth right now. And he is doing the same exact thing. He is only taking about 10 ounces a day. As soon as I put the bottle anywhere near his mouth he pushes it out of my hands and gets really mad. He is ok with eatting solids right now though, so I make sure I give him plenty of solids throughout the day. If I give him tylenal about 45 minutes before he eats, then he will take the bottle alot better.
