Teething, ear infection? PLEASE help..?

My daughter is 5 and half months old. Starting 2 days ago shes been a bit fussy, she pulls at her hair around her ears, mainly her right one.. She does not pull at her ears though. She drools constantly, she has this little fake cough she does.. cranky, chews on anything she can.. Never finishs her bottles lately.. Always ends up just chewing on the nipple.. My question is at night time, she REFUSES to sleep, she will sleep for a hour, then up crying for the past 2 nights.. like she just cant get comfy, wiggles around..restless...Since she was born, shes slept threw the night, so this is totally new to me.. It seems shes happier during the day kind of then she is at night. Is this normal, ear infection and teething have such common symptoms..I gave her tylenol at midnight last night, didnt seem to help much.. I can feel little bumps on her gums, and her doctor felt them too. Im just confused, ear infection?? or is this normal with teething? THANK YOU

Teething, ear infection? PLEASE help..?
First I feel your pain, I've been there.

Ear infections andrunny stuffy noses are all related to teething so dont worry about it, there is nothing you can do for the ear pain but have patiuence and for the runny nose some saline baby drops might work along with a nasal suction thingy.

Your baby is teething, my son cutted his first front upper and lower 4 when he was only 5 months, what you can do is instead of giving your baby tylenol give her baby motrin (Ibuprofen) it works a whole lot better and faster than acetaminophen (tylenol) it has also been prooved that Tylenol can be harmfull to an infant, if you got for motrin get the dyed free one, trust me it works.

I also sugest that you get teething pills, they run aroun 5 bucks at any store they should be on the baby section where baby meds are and they work almost instantly, there is no limit with those since they are natural ingredients, you can give your baby up to 15 and will also help your baby right away, also there is a gel paste like Orajel called Little Teethers, from Little remedies, those work inmediatly you apply it in your baby's gums and you will notice the change, the little teethers paste doesnt burn like baby orajel does, instead it haves a sweet taste to it but because it numbs baby gums baby might drool a little more.

Since your baby is bitting you should get her s ome teething toys, and i you can get the ones that have water inside (they are sold at walmart as well) get those and keep them in the freezer and whenever your baby starts bitting give her a frozen teething toy this should help refresh her gums when she bites it.

there are lots type of teething toys, from teething rings to teething blankies, etc.

if she refuses to play with the refrigetated ones, get Ice cream and give her a lil bit everyonce in a while the coldness of the treat will also help make her baby gums feel better.

I Hope this lil info helps.. I've been there, my son is only 15 months old and he has all his teeth 20 to be exact.

so i know what you are going thru and get ready cus it only gets worse till they cut the very last ones. also canines are the most painful ones to cut since they are pointy and tend to wear and make the gums more sore than the rest do.

Again, sorry to hear baby is having a hard time, none of us parents like to see our babies go thru that but its just natural.

I almost forgot, sometimes rubbing baby benadryl in baby's gums relaxes them and stop the pain...thats what my sons pediatrician recommended us and it worked!!!

Good luck for you and your baby and hope you get some sleep, since teething babies keep you up all night!!!!

Reply:I'm a mother of 3, This is teething not ear infection, buy her special teething toys that she can chew on when you put her in bed.
Reply:They do get fussy when they teeth and they may pull their ears or hair and if she isn't running a temp then it isn't a bacterial infection of the ears at worst it may be a virus. If it is a viral ear infection it should clear up by itself in a couple of days. Antibiotics are pointless for a virus.

Essentially, at this stage it doesn't matter if it's teething or a virus, the treatment is much the same. Give plenty of fluids and pain meds before she goes to bed. Give her a teething ring to chew and try teething gel on her gums - It works wonders. If it is teeth she will calm down almost immediately after it is applied.

If she isn't better in a couple of days or starts running a fever take her to the doc, but I think she's teething.
Reply:normal teething im afraid! give it time, it will pass. Lots of patience and cuddles..
Reply:My son had an ear infection with almost every tooth he cut when he was a baby...it is very common. I would take your baby to the dr and have the dr check her ears and make sure...my son had the fussines, ear infection, and most of the time a heck of a fever to go with the ear infections....it makes for a not so fun time for them or us...good luck hun!
