Are teething tablets safe?

My baby is two months old and she is teething. I've done some reading on the computer and a lot of people recommend teething tablets. My dad is against the teething tablets though because it has Belladonna in it. He says it is a DANGEROUS drug and doesn't think we should use it. I've done research and doctors use it for medicine but should i use it on my 2 month old?

Are teething tablets safe?
I had a friend who contacted Hyland's about the Belladonna. A child would have to eat 8 ENTIRE BOTTLES to even begin to have any negative effect from the belladonna in it. The amount is that little in homeopathic remedies. (Keep in mind that many of the drugs we take a dangerous if given in the wrong dosages.)

I have given all three of my kids teething tablets with WONDERFUL results.
Reply:i would ask a pediatritian this, and, make sure they wernt made in china
Reply:I used Hylands teething tables for my kids....You can find them in the baby section at the grocery store. Usually next to baby oragel.
Reply:i used it on my grandkids and it worked but if your dad is uncomfortable with it use baby orgel and baby motrin those combinations work great
Reply:Belladonna can be toxic in large amounts, but the teething tablets really contain a minute amount. In small doses, it can be beneficial, and the amount present in the teething tablets wouldn't be enough to cause harm. Of course, you should be aware of the recommended dosage and err on the side of caution. For example, the package says for 0-2 years, give 2-3 tablets, up to 4 times daily. I have always only used 2 tablets with my daughter, and never given the maximum number of doses. During the day, it can be easier to distract your baby from the discomfort, and you can offer chilled items to relieve soreness. Of course, there is also infant tylenol and other pain relievers, just check with the doctor for appropriate dosages.

There is also another homeopathic teething product by Boiron called Camilia. It doesn't have belladonna in it.
Reply:Belladonna is a pretty potent %26amp; powerful natural herb that has been used as a pain reliever for centuries...

Used safely and in moderation (ie according to package directions, not more than that!) there should be no Danger.

The amount of belladonna in tablets is pretty small actually, I can't find the package here but if I do I'll add the amount.

My son uses them, I prefer those to the Orajel type stuff. As it doesn't just topically numb his gummies, tongue %26amp; throat, but instead relieves the pain "from the inside out". I only give them to him when he seems truly uncomfortable and unable to sleep because of his teeth (so maybe one or two doses every couple of days, not round the clock or anything).

Your dad is justified in believing Belladonna is something to be careful with, as used in its natural form it can be deadly (if taken in too great amount). However in the homeopathic tablet form, it is highly diluted.

Alot of moms safely use teething tablets for their infants (even as young as yours), it's a personal choice I suppose best made by you and you alone.
Reply:I use the Hyland's tablets and a baby would have to consume MASSIVE amounts of Belladonna for it to hurt them. The amount of Belladonna in the teething tablets is very very little. Talk to your pediatrician if you'd like to know if they are safe. Mine recommended them.
