Teething question???

How old was your baby when they started teething and how much less milk do they drink?? I've heard teething can put them off their food is this true? Any other hints on teething would be great thanks

Teething question???
From about 4 months babies can start teething. The reason is that they may be off their food is that they can sometimes be a little under the weather (raised temp, runny nose etc) but also because the mouth may be a little sore and the area may be sensitive. My kids loved a teething ring which was cooled in the fridge to cool on and calgel numbs the area (it's a bit loke bonjela). Other kids sail through it and sometimes you're not even aware a baby has a tooth until the little monkey nips you!!
Reply:My son got his first tooth at 4 months, it didn't affect him eating. Some teeth I didn't really even know they were coming til I would check and feel them. I also know a child who didn't get their first tooth until about 12 months though, so you never know.
Reply:my son is turning 8 months soon and he just poped out his first 2 teeth!!! he still drinks the same amount of milk though!
Reply:both my boys were about 6 months when they got their first tooth. I'm unsure of how much milk they took as i was breastfeeding.

I found a liquid filled teething ring cooled in the fridge helped. Also cold cucumber sticks helped with my 2. Alot of babies go off their food when teething, but don't worry too much about it. thankfully it doesn't last too long
Reply:My son is 8 months old, almost 9 months, and he has two teeth (the bottome too) and he refused to eat baby food for like two days, when he was getting his teeth, but he drank his bottle fine, plus they can also get fevers from teething and runny noses.
Reply:My daughter was about 8 1/2 months (this was just a few weeks ago). She did get off of her milk for a couple of weeks. She refused to drink it. I didn't associate it with her teething until she started drinking again. She drank juice just fine. Now she will drink her milk out of a sippy cup only.
Reply:I have three girls. The older two cut their teeth with no problems. One of them had 4 teeth at 4months old, the other cut her first tooth at around 6 months.

My nine month old cut her first tooth at six months and now has three teeth. She went right off her food and didn't drink her milk as well when she was teething. She also tends to get cold symptoms, an upset tummy and a bright red cheek.

I always know when she's teething because she gets really grumpy beforehand and needs more cuddles than normal !!

As long as your little one is drinking, then don't worry. They are normally only under the weather for a day or two.

You know your baby better than anyone - if you are worried that they are not picking up after a day or so, give your health visitor a call, and she can advise you.

Good luck. x
Reply:Teething hell I like to call it. My little girl started teething at 3months but didn't get first teeth until 6 months. She is now 12 months and her symptoms peek just before she cuts a tooth. She went off her food (solid) and bottle not so much because she didn't want the milk more that the sucking hurts her gums when they are sore.

Home made ice pops are nice for little ones and can have them as soon as you feel they are ready.

I found it best to just keep offering her milk on her bad days just so i knew she had enough and for comfort. She soon got back into her normal routine when she was better.

All the teething things are good but remember sometimes they just don't want anything in their mouth.

Other symptoms associated with teething that you might not think of:

Cold symptoms

Temperature (not all doctors agree, but it common sense!)

upset tummy

ear ache

Good Luck Hun!
