My son started teething and we're looking for ways to help relieve the pain. Currently when he gets very fussy (i.e. inconsolable crying for at least an hour and giving signs that it's his mouth bothering him) we give him the doctor's recommended dose of infant's tylenol.
The thing is, he's only 3 months old so teething rings are out of the question because we can't find any small enough for his mouth. Also, baby orajel won't work just yet because the tooth hasn't broken throug his gums yet.
So I have two questions:
1) are teething tablets ok for an infant his age?
2) what other remedies would you suggest?
and yes, we do know for sure he's teething. Medical professionals AND people we trust who have had several children have confirmed this.
Teething question?
I know what your going through , my son is 4 months old and teething rings arent helping he tends to miss his mouth and drop them and the orajel washes off his gums and only works for a short amount of time anyway ..I do the tylenol and I usually wet a small wash cloth and stick in the fridge , my son does better w/ them then a teething ring ..
Also I bought my son a couple of toddler feeders, i found them at Target .. They are made for a toddler but i use them on my son , they have a small handle and a mesh net on the end , you can add crushed ice , chopped raw carrots or other fruit and veggies in them and there is no choking hazzard , My son does well w/ them because they are small enough for his little hands ..
I havent tried teething tablets but i heard they work wonders , i plan on picking some up in the next day or two ..
Also you could try a sippy cup i bought my son one and i put cool water and or a little diluted juice in them .. he likes to chew on the them and the cool liquids tend to soothe his gums a little ,
You can also try Gerber bitter bisquits or maybe some baby dill pickles (they are both the perfect size for babies ) You just have to watch them very carefully w/ both and if you notice them starting to break apart throw them out , These make me a little nervous especially if your baby isnt sitting up on their own or doesnt have at least one or two teeth yet but its up to you , Good Luck
Reply:I give my son rice cereal and he has no problems , you could try some cereal in the feeder , i havent but im almost willing to try because my son has been in so much pain lately from teething Report It
Reply:teething tablets at your health food store they are natural good for all ages takes away pain i know my granddaughter uses them
Reply:The thing about orajel if that it numbs your gums so you can use it even though the tooth hasn't broken the surface yet. it'll still get rid of the pain. You may also want to try to take a rag and roll it into a point. Dip the end of the rag in water and freeze it. Of course when you give it to him you have to watch him. Also they make nipples that go on baby bottles that have nubbies on them. So that way when your baby is feeding, those nubs rub their gums and kind of massage them.
Reply:putting pressure on the area is the best remedy cold feels good too my baby uses a teether it is not very big and he will be 4 m/o soon has been using the teether for a couple of weeks . He knaws on his hands a lot also! I have yet to give him anything for pain.
Reply:yes the best teething tablets to get are called hylands teething tablets. Also to ease the pain try one of those teething rings you put in the freezer and rub it along his teeth. Good Luck!
Reply:ask at the drug store for TEETHING GEL TO RUB ON THE BABYS GUMS.
