Teething Tabets Safe?

My 8 month old daughter is teething, and everyone tells me to give her teething tablets. So I got the Hyland brand of teething tablets, but reading the label, it said it contains coffee, and is supposed to calm her down. I don't drink coffee myself, but isn't it supposed to be a stimulant? Is it safe to give this to an infant? Any other teething tips besides Motrin, Tylenol, and a cold washcloth?

Teething Tabets Safe?
Yes, Hylands are safe. My daughter is on a pile of meds because of severe acid reflux and asthma caused by the reflux. Teething made everything worse.....so I asked her pharmacist about the tablets. He read the entire box and said they were perfectly safe for her, even with the medications she was already on.

I loved them! I called them her baby mood stabilizers......they just made her more mellow. less fussy, less whiny.....just seemed to help her relax. I ended up buying another bottle when she was 19 months because she got her molars and was miserable again.........again, they helped take that edge off. I would recommend them to anyone.

As far as teething, there is not much you can do at that age. Rub her gums with a clean finger, teething toys in the fridge, I used Motrin before bed.

Good Luck.......
Reply:ive used it

"The ideas of homeopathy are scientifically implausible[6] and directly opposed to modern pharmaceutical knowledge.[7] Claims for the efficacy of homeopathy are unsupported by the collected weight of scientific and clinical studies.[8][9][10][11] This lack of convincing evidence supporting its efficacy, along with its stance against modern scientific ideas, have caused homeopathy to be regarded as "placebo therapy at best and quackery at worst" in the words of a recent medical review.[12] Various publications using meta-analysis, a common approach to pooling the results of many studies, reported positive results from the use of homeopathy. Facing difficulty in controlling for publication bias and the flawed designs of the studies they analyzed, these reports were regarded as inconclusive and unconvincing.[13][14] A 2005 meta-analysis published in The Lancet comparing homeopathic clinical trials with those of conventional medicine demonstrated that homeopathy's effects are unlikely to be different from those of a placebo.[6]"

I suspect some mothers notice an effect because homeopathic "medicines" are mostly sugar. Babies like sweet, so...

"Give a normal-term infant a minute amount of sugar dissolved in water, and it's like a sedative, almost immediately calming fitful, crying babies, and keeping them calm even after they no longer taste the solution."

Reply:My nephew had to get his teeth CUT out because the oragel hardened his gums. However I used all natural dissolving teethen tablets bought from the organic food store and foung them to work and be safe for my children. hope that helps.

also try letting him suck on a frozen waffle(supervised) built in spit catcher lol that worked nice for me
Reply:We have used them for months....and we also used the colic tabs a lot when our daughter was very small. I've never had a problem with either..and always recommend them to people. Our doctor cannot, as most doctors won't, advise to use them because they are not FDA approved....but I bet they use them on their own kiddos too.
Reply:Hi. I have used the hyland baby tablets only a few times for my son. It doesn't seem to be a stimulant. Someone else called it baby valium on here when I asked a question about it. I would have to agree with that. It definitely helped my son sleep better, which was great. I did use it during the day once and it really drugged him up for a few hours so, I am always sure not to do that now and only at night or when we aren't going anywhere. The oragel doesn't work very well- only for a minute or two before it washes out of the mouth. I did recently buy my son some rice cakes and zweiback toast which he seems to enjoy munching on. He hasn't been grouchy from teething for about a week now. Yay! :)
Reply:They are safe. It's not the same coffee that adults drink every morning. Hylands products were a lifesaver with my kids. I was really leary of giving Tylenol and such. Once I started trying the teething tablets that was all I used and they are great. They are all natural and proven to work. I don't know what all that mumbo jumbo is that one person told you about Homeopathy, I think it is someone biased in the wrong direction. If you will look up the ingredients you will find that they are safe and effective. Whats more, they are the same things that have been used for 100's of years, long before Tylenol came on the market. After all, mothers years ago had ways of dealing with teething pain and they used all natural herbs. Just try them. They are the bomb and work great!!
Reply:I used them. They are completely safe.
Reply:I never used one, but I took a small baby wash cloth and put a piece of ice in it and wrapped with a rubber band, the wet it some and he like to suck on it. It wasn't messy at all.
Reply:As with anything for babies, you should not overuse them.

Someone mentioned they are useless... I highly doubt that. I have heard from many people, and you can see by other mothers answers, that they do work to some extent.

My baby has had them, my nephew, my godson... they do work. My baby kept screaming once at around 1am. He refused the bottle and he just kept crying. He hadn't drank a full bottle for most of the day. I decided to try teething tablets. I gave it to him and shortly after he drank his milk and rolled over and went to sleep after that.

I don't use them often. Don't even use them everyday. Just in extreme nighttime cases.
Reply:Teething tablets work great with our daughter and it always calms her down. When teething she usually gets them right before bed .. and it never keeps her up.

I had a friend suggest them and in our experience.. they actually work just as good as orajel.
