Teething and Reflux-go hand and hand?

Could teething be the reason why my son is having reflux so bad tonight? I thought reflux would get better as the infant got older. I dont even know if my 5 month old is teething. Everyone seems to think he is but im a first time mom not familiar with teething etc. He does munch on his hands or anything that gets near his mouth. He drools. He is very tempermental at times but I just thought that was all normal baby behavior. Just wondering if he is teething if that could be the reason the poor little guy was spitting up curdled milk and clear liquid making the most horrible little faces =( I appreciate all you guys help.

Teething does not cause spitting up. Perhaps some stuck burps are still in there or maybe as he is getting older he kicks his legs around a lot while lying down and squirming, that can create gas and spitting up a little. Lol his horrible little looks on his face is because curdled milk does not taste good! He is drooling as he is tasting new things, his hands, toys and whatever else he can work up to his sweet mouth. It can turn on the drool.

He might be getting ready to teeth or may have started. You will know soon enough as you will see a little swelling maybe on his gums and a tooth ready to poke out. New teeth sometimes play peek a boo for a while before finally breaking through for good.

He might be a little crabby sometimes, he is learning he is a separate person from you and is trying out different sensations/ideas when it comes to personality! Lets say for example; that he does not like a certain toy. He is learning that by screaming or making a noise that is not a happy one you will come and pick him up. Away from the toy. Then he is happy again. Try and see if there is a scenario like that when he gets crabby (maybe it is food time, maybe he doesn't like his swing, or you leaving the room etc). He is learning how to communicate!

If the spitting up is a lot and very often, I would talk with his Pediatrician. Have fun with your sweet guy!
Reply:My son has always been a reflux baby It has only recently stopped since hes started walking @10months and none at all since since Ive introduced cows milk.(now 12mths) makes you wonder what formula really does to their insides? ( he has been on anti reflux formula from 4 months old %26amp; medicine.) No more medicine cutting down on formula and replaced with cows milk. The reflux made no difference when my sons teeth were coming through you can usually see when they are coming the gums are red and bulgy and you can see when the tooth is cutting. Its funny as soon as a child is grizzly you get "oh he must be teething". I tried a herbal remedy from the chemist called 'Infants friend' that helped in the early days but If your not sure take your little one to the doctors.
Reply:sounds like my son then i found out when he was about 4/ 5 months old he had gerds or acid reflux. he took special milk--Alimentium by Similac and even w/ that he would still have"episodes" where he cried hysterically w/ projectile throwing up, always miserable after eating. hes great now and takes prevacid, he didn't improve until he was prescribed meds. also avoid movement fro one hr after eating and prop him in a up right position after eating too this should help a lot.
