Ok need advice asap.
my son is 7 months today, we've been waiting month for teeth, there in the gums.
usally when he is teething he will only cry when his in bed of a night time, red saw round bum, rosey cheeks and a slight temp.
today he as all of the above but his been really crying during the day, wingy, drinking cool water, his not really eating much today either plus fairly sleepy. ive checked his temp its up and down between 38.1 to 38.6 Is this temp normal regarding teethin and can it be that high due to teething?...or do you think i could be something else?
Just want advice before taking him to doctors just incase its just teething!!
Teething - High Temp?
Shouldnt a normal temp be 98.6? I didnt understand anything your wrote.
Reply:Temps can be high during teething, and he probably has the rash on his bum because their urine is more concentrated when they are teething. Hope that helped! Good Luck
Reply:Translate your temps to Fahrenheit please. I am not sure what they are as Celsius. Teething can cause a fairly high temp. Also ear infections can cause similar symptoms as you described. If you are unsure it wouldn't hurt to take him to the Dr. Good luck.
Reply:Try some Calpol or similar as this can help with the temperature and pain of teething.
Phone NHS direct as well if you are concerned. I found them really helpful with all sorts of things when my daughter was small.
NHS Direct Telephone - 0845 4647.
Reply:I think temps can rise when teething. We used to wet a finger with whiskey and rub the gums. It provided them with a bit of relief. The redness around the bottom bothers me though, might should have the doctor take a look.
Reply:I would just call the doctor and see if they think it is worth bringing him in. My daughter had a fever and I thought she was teething. Her doctor told me that babies really shouldn't have a fever when they are teething, so i took her in. It turned out she had coxsackie virus, otherwise known as hand, foot, and mouth disease. I know, sounds gross. But it went away after a day or too. My point is, no matter how uncomfortable you might feel about asking the doctor, don't be. It can never hurt to just make the phone call. Good luck!!
Reply:these are all the usual symptoms of teething along with a slighty raised temp body temp is usually 36, its unlikely to be something else but you could always go to the doctors to put your mind at rest. to relieve the pain use some bonjela or similar along with biccie pegs ( i think thats how there spelt) you can get them from boots, teething rings you can freeze, plenty of fluids preferably water or watered down juice and calpol to bring the temp down, hope this helps
Reply:That's fairly normal but if it reaches 39* or higher take him to the hospital asap.
Reply:Yes that temperature is normal for a teething little 'un. Our daughter had similar temperatures when a tooth was coming through also. I would suggest taking the temperature at regular intervals from now and maybe something like a bit of calprofen to take the edge of it. The main thing to look for is if your son is happy in himself? Nobody on here will of course know your child and if you think he is acting out of the ordinary, seems distressed or listless etc, then consult a doctor (or maybe ring NHS direct if you are in the UK).
Reply:My son's going through the same thing... not sure what 38.6 translates to in Fahrenheit though... but I know that he gets drowsy, out of it, cranky and all you can do is provide comfort. I give him Tylenol (when he has a temp) and then baby oragel and a ice cold teether. That usually helps.... Good Luck! It stinks to see them in pain.... doesn't it?
Reply:Congrats on the babe! Best resource for you is http://www.webmd.com/
It has all the things you need or want to know as basics and helps you to guide whether it's an emergency or simple. Also has pictures so you can tell if they have certain types of rashes and more. Free and easy to use. Sometimes the Dr is not available or I didn't want to bug them so I used the website and loved it. There are also times you may not feel the DR is giving the best advice and you want other opinions too.
EVERY child is different. It can be normal but can be something else. Teething is a hard time. You see to the comforts 1st. I recommend a pain reliever like baby tylenol to help with the fever and pains 1st. Then remember that teething can make your stomach feel sick. Cut the milk and formula for a couple days. They have pedialite popsicals or you can make your own using pedialite or gatorade. That will keep him hydrated without upsetting the tummy and the cold can help numb the pain. The taste talks him into trying.
This works great for many reasons. Whether it's teething or a virus you are doing what's best for both. You can make chicken soup and give him that if he's hungry or needs a bottle (broth).
Babes teethe and then start biting themselves too which can do the same. I know they are not usually recommended but adult biscotti biscuits were a lifesaver for my daughter. She wanted to gnaw at something. I put them in the freezer awhile then let her have at it. The baby biscotti would mush and choke her giving me a heart attack. I put a small strap around it and tied it to the stroller so I could take her for a walk and not worry she would drop it. The walk seemed to help her when it was bad. I also tried keeping her busy to keep her from noticing as much. I just played and played till she passed out. My son was way easier so I had to learn with the 2nd kid how to handle it. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Reply:These are all normal teething issues. My son wouldnt eat his solids or take his bottle when his teeth were cutting in..they both caused too much pain. We would give him the .8ml dropper measurement of his baby tylenol and that seemed to help a lot....also try taking a dish towel and getting it wet with cold water for your baby to gum.....or hold an ice cube in your fingers and let him suck on it.....this helped so much with our son and it was the only thing that would calm him down....he was SUPER cranky when he was teething.
Reply:hi, i would think that your babe is teething. i know what its like, both of my children cut their teeth with streaming colds and temperatures. if you are really worried then take him to your dr or talk to your health visitor ( always advisable if in doubt!!!)
hope the tooth makes an appearance soon!
regards.
Reply:Normal temp should be 37 anything over 38 you should call doctor or nhs 27 in the meantime keep checking the temp and maybe give some calpol to see if it helps bring it down u can also give nurofen for children in between calpol doses this is what i was told do do when my lil one was around that age.
Good luck
